Have been up since 3:30 a.m. this morning after having another wicked Meniere's attack last night that was full-blown, and the ringing in my ears has continued to be as loud. It's always there, always present....Not always a pure tone, sometimes the pattern changes to more of a heart-beat monitor pulsing tone...But it never stops. And the vertigo and nausea are the absolute worst. But luckily I had the attack at home rather than work. Having them at work is not fun, makes me very self-conscious even though my Admin and my colleagues are all extremely supportive. Hoping to go to bed early tonight as I generally get up for work by 4:15 a.m. Meniere's sounds pretty bad, pun not intended. How's your prognoses, is it getting better or worse? I appreciate your comment....My GP told me that as many as 80% of people with Menieres eventually experience permanent hearing loss to varying degrees. In my case, he said it may take six months or 15 years but eventually I will have permanent hearing loss of what he estimates to be between 60 and 75db. The only thing to do now is take each day at a time and try to find a medication that lessens the severity of the worst symptoms. Nothing can or will completely take them away. There is no cure, no fix. All I can do is manage the symptoms.

Your concern is appreciated. Unfortunately there is no getting better...no cure, no magic fix. My condition is permanent and over time whether months or years, it will get worse and eventually lead to permanent hearing loss, of what my GP estimates in my case to be projected at 60 to 75db. Fortunately, I am moderately versed in ASL so if I do lose my hearing I will have that method of communication to fall back on.

Jokes aside, I took the time to read about Meniere's, and it's a tricky disease for sure. Every patient is unique, which makes it particularly difficult to diagnose and to make a prognoses. And yes, all you can do is hope for the best eventuality.

Good morning, Rewind. Yes it is a very difficult condition to properly diagnose because, not only is every patient unique....but the trademark symptoms (headaches, vertigo, nausea, tinnitus, loss of balance, fluctuating hearing loss) individually on their own can be explained away by other causes. The tell-tale sign of Meniere's specifically is when all of those symptoms happen together in a 'symptom cluster' and all happen at the same time. Only Meniere's can cause that. Additionally, another telltale sign is that when an 'episode/attack' occurs, the worst of the symptoms (which is usually the vertigo) occurs for a timespan of at least 15 minutes (and no longer than 24 hours) and happens initially more than once per week in the early stages. If you would like I will describe what an "episode" or "attack" of Meniere's is like for me. For me these were the case. When I have an episode vertigo is tpyically the most intense of all the symptoms....at its absolute worst it can last for anywhere from 20 minutes to 7 hours. My longest episode to date occurred in October of 2019 while I was at work-- it is so intense, I will often completely lose my balance and fall over (or have to lie down) flat on my back, remaining absolutely still. Even after the worst of the vertigo subsided, I was still left with intense tinnitus and a severe headache for the rest of the day. Additionally for me, my tinnitus goes through the roof to the point where I hear nothing but a pure tone of what is equivalent to 7000 hz; comorbid with that, I also have a stabbing, sharp pain in my ear drum as if someone is stabbing my eardrum with a sharp object. Because of these two factors I will also plug my ears with my fingers are much as I can. In the same moment, my physical ability to hear (tinnitus notwithstanding) actually completely drops through the floor. (Y'know that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you're in an elevator and it drops? There's that initial dropping feeling as your stomach seems to lurch? Well, that same physical sensation occurs in my ears as my physical ability and sense of hearing instantly disappears). I can't hear people talking, I can't hear doors slamming....I can't even hear cars or transport trucks speeding by me on the street. Moreover, I get an instant migraine that is the spawn of Satan; I feel like my head is being crushed with a sledgehammer. Then there's the nausea, which needs no explanation. Now imagine all of these things hitting you instantly....not in a cascading effect of one after the other-- but all at once, all at the exact same moment and all of them in instant full-force. If your imagination can allow you to feel that....then you have a fair idea of what I experience in reality. Add to this the daily complications of a 60 db bilateral fluctuating hearing loss with constant tinnitus. I typically resort to lip-reading and when I have an 'okay' day, I have to use what residual hearing I do have and really focus, while also reading people's lips.....And then it becomes a 'fill in the blank' mental activity for me to follow conversation. And forget about these stupid masks! Even on my 'okay' days it is a total guessing game. I have to fill in the blanks for what I think people are saying, and then hope and pray my responses make sense. But as I do have a fluctuating hearing loss, my ability to hear can change drastically at any time randomly throughout the day so it's very hard to communicate effectively with any regularity. My hearing can fluctuate many times throughout the course of the day, and what can begin as an 'okay' day, can change to a horrible day in a matter of minutes or hours.

That's a comprehensive description of Meniere's symptoms, thank you for taking the time to write that. It certainly helps in understanding the disease and what it must be like to experience the symptoms. Sounds very unpleasant indeed. Pain hasn't been a stranger in my life, but I think I'll stick to my ailments. Wouldn't hope that happening to anyone.
OT: A Delivery truck destroyed my mailbox, dang it. I managed to hammer it to shape somewhat, but it's wrecked. I contacted the company and they took full responsibility and promised to pay for a new one. Still, now I have to find a replacement, install it and get rid of the old one.

I really appreciate my neighbour playing the saxophone every afternoon. I just open the window and listen to it while working from my laptop or when I am studying. . It's one of the best moments of my, otherwise, boring and monotonous days.

It seems I am now in the extortion stage of the cycle!
A typical cycle goes like this:
-Shameless attack on my well-being -Misdirection and manipulation -Imposed Social Isolation -Social Bullying / Gaslighting -More Imposed Social Isolation -Extortion -Rationalization -Destruction of any semblance of value
Small steps, I suppose.

Yeah, I really thought about leaving him a note or something, but I am quite shy about it. "Playing" ? That should be rare. You're lucky. All my encounters with people like this, they are training, practicing, over and over again. Yes! Playing! I know, it's very rare and appreciated. I know what you mean. In my old place, there was a guy who "practised" playing "My heart will go on" on his recorder...you can imagine how bad it was.

Today I was going for a walk when some kids on their scooters approached me, they were like 5-6 years old, they slowed down with gaping mouths and then they pointed at me and said ''look, a gangster''! I was like ''wut''? I was wearing a black leather jacket and was all dressed in black, that is apparently enough to be a gangster these days. So I guess next walk I won't be wearing my 1930's pinstripe suit and my hat like I planned to, LOL.

This has been a bad year. The latest straw is that our senior cat died tonight. She was almost 21 years old. We are down to 1 (one) cat.

If.....IF you don't mind the question--please feel free to decline....But what happened??? I hope you're okay. I sadly always suffer from inflamed intestines around late winter/early spring, this time around its been bad enough to warrant a checkup in the hospital, they decided to check my stomach as well (gastroscopy). They found my stomach a little raw, so without my knowledge or consent they gave me medications for it. This exact medication MUST NOT, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES be given to people with inflamed bowels as it is known to make the inflammations so terrible it can become life threating from constant blood loss - as it did in my case. The idiot doctors did not know that. And in fact, as I was already in terrible condition from the first dosage they wanted to give me a second, even larger dosage of that stuff, with a half-life of 5 days. That would've killed me. Luckily I could stop them just before the application. Well, I'm not ok, I have to take serious medications to get that inflammation under control again and the last 5 days were easily the worst of my life, I feel like total garbage and I wont be able to go back to work anytime soon, but at least I'm not bleeding to death anymore. Last two years the inflammations were so tiny I didn't even have to do anything but watch my diet and keep away from stress, and now this. I need a vacation.

Dude! Glad to see you're doing at least somewhat better. I read your earlier post about it, and it did sound worrisome. You should make an incident report a medical error or medical malpractice complaint, when you are up to it.
Now, I am professionally curious about your case, so if you feel like it, PM me the name of the drug in question.

I hope you're okay and get well soon. Please do take care of yourself.
