Watched the showcase with some friends and we were talking a lot, so I'll have to rewatch later but what I picked up looked very nice.
The one thing that didn't look that great tbh were the typical Bethesda faces with a lip sync that was very hit and miss. But I am not worried about that even if they don't look super great, the environments and everything else looked fantastic. Really hope it won't be too bad on the bug/technical front and we'll be in for one hell of a fall this year.
Yup, incredible showcase except for the faces. Once again janky AF and way behind other games. Uncharted 4 from 2016 looks way better but then again this is a motion capture Naughty Dog game and an unfair comparison. I don't mind that the character models look barely any better than FO4's and that painted on facial hair looks so bad I had to shake my head. Like worse than their own previous games or maybe I just forgot what their games look like vanilla. It doesn't matter though. Mods will fix the outdated character models.
Indoor lighting on the other hand looks amazing. Major improvement. Outdoors has very nice shaders too. Ship customization looks awesome, combat now looks really fun. Everything looks incredible, game of the decade for me if it really all comes together as well as they made with look. I'm extremely impressed by all the stuff that's in the game. Almost mind boggling. So the usual Bethesda jank can be forgiven because the scale of this game is massive and unlike anything ever done before. It's like everything I always wanted from a AAA RPG version of No Man's Sky. The amount of different biomes we've seen is already miles ahead of NMS. Animals don't look NMS derpy either. This might be a dream come true.
Looks like I was wrong when I said that the shooting reminded me of MEA, but it had proper melee instead of "biotics". There was a quick scene where the PC use "force push" with his left hand.
Now the question is if we can spec only in that and make a Space Wizard! Or if it's super limited.
They took so much inspirations of other games - it's gotta be a "biotic" skill tree section.
I'm on GamePass, but they've already got the extras upgrade (early access) and a Controller out of me.

I’m looking forward to buying buy it is Bugthesda so I be waiting a month or so before buying. I heard a dev or Xbox rep said it’s supposed to be their least buggiest game but with it being such a huge scope game and again bugthesda I’ll still be skeptical on that. This game has some major long term potential to it

My speculation: it’s some special skill you get, that’s related to the artifact storyline, similar to Skyrim’s dragon shouts.
I'll concede that this is a particularly pointless pleasure, but I've always enjoyed having the game's thumbnail showing ready on Xbox/phone. It's sort of there even if I can't touch it.

Those abilities are either going to be similar to dragon shouts powers since the artifacts "talks to you" and/or require using neuro-amps which were mentioned in a background trait description. The main inspiration for Starfield, Traveller TTRPG, has Psionics too, so that's probably the type of power we will get access to.

As long as I'm gonna beat shit up and ragdoll them I'm fine. The talking artifacts gives me a bit of a ME1 vibe.
I re-watched the Direct and I still can't believe they put the Adoring Fan in...with the same voice actor and haircut as in Oblivion!
Also, that "kid stuff" really gives you parents you can interact with...and that you give them money.
Also, the fauna looks incredible.
There even is a culinary skill tree. I hope it includes fish. Imagine alien kale! New fruit as topping for pizza. The possibilities are endless. And the mods...
If you compare the rating to FO4, it gets super weird. It had zero nudity but moderate sex. How does that even make sense, lol. So apparently fade to black romance scene is considered morderate sex. Bizarre!
I guess this means that Starfield won't even have that. I'm... disappointed. I mean, I find pixel sex total cringe to watch so I don't actually want to see any graphic details. But implied is fine. ME1 level romances were the best imo. I just want actual well done romances for once. They way they talked about it in interviews seemed to suggest we'll be getting more but that rating says something else. Unless the change to moderate nudity is somehow indicative of more in depth romances but then how do you get halfway naked without implied sex, lol. So my guess is the nudity is billboards or skimpy clothing on NPCs and any romance is still super superficial.
Skyrim had a little bit of nudity and sex. Where?! I haven't played it in years but wasn't there only marriage without any build up? My wood elf never married anyone. So I don't actually really know. Or is this about The Lusty Argonian Maid, lol?
I can't wrap my head around it yet. But one thing is for certain, Starfield will feature the most drug use which is astonishing considering FO4 had so much of it. And somehow Starfield has even more. Huh. Maybe I should play a total drug addict for the first time. I've never done that. Was told the junkie build in FO4 is totally OP.

I am looking forward to re-watching the presentation on my big ass computer screen once I get many PC back from intensive care. This tiny phone screen just didnt do it justice.
Time for the mild skepticism part since I just made two positive posts. I'm not really loving a couple of things I've seen so far.
The main plot -- from very little detail, of course -- looks an awful lot like stuff I've played before. Although since I ended up giving ME1 a pass for ripping off Starflight, I probably won't end up actually being bothered by whatever it is they're doing. But the artifacts thing has been done. Ye gods, "one of them reached out and spoke to you " is literally the plot of ME1.
And did we really need space magic again? Yeah, Traveller did it. And then SPI ripped them off, and then GURPS did it too, and... well, basically everybody did it. Can someone not do this, just once?
Edit: and come to think of it, are they making the same mistake with the star map that ME did? I got the impression that you can't look at systems you're not in without flying there. Isn't the point of maps to learn about stuff somewhere you haven't gone yet?
I hear there's a Green Man Gaming discount on preorders if you've signed on to their XP rewards plan. I've never actually bought anything from them, so I can't check.

The little they showed of the spinning gate and "talking" created by the artifacts looks a lot like the ship grav jump FX. Which makes me think it's the same technology at work. There is clearly a case of "forgotten past" in the game, since they showed those humans being surprised there was other humans out there in the direct showcase.

Scifi RPG have "space magic" because a RPG is boring without the 3 basic roles: rogue, warrior and mage.
And we don't know if it is space magic. There was mention of alien gene therapy and cybernetics implants among the backgrounds.

Are you talking about the navigation console? There is a "show me" button when selecting another system, they just didn't use it during the presentation.
I would guess when the next elder scrolls game is released, I would need a new cpu.
Elizabeth Nancy Shepard - Earthborn/soldier/ruthless Humanity #1 I'm Commander Shepard, and this is my favorite playthrough in ME If you see a soldier or veteran, shake their hand and thank them for their service
Am I the sort of person to get suckered in by a novelty controller?
Maybe I am...
If I used controllers I would totally get that one.
I caved and ordered one last night, lol. I've never bought themed anything stuff for gaming. I hate wasting money on something I don't need. And 75€ is almost twice the price of a regular one. So I danced around it for days. But then my hype overwhelmed me and I wanted something to celebrate it, lol. And I didn't even really like the art style of Starfield initially. Just linked it to a fiend and she said "that's one ugly ass controller".
Well, it will be replacing my battery powered 360 controllers from... 2005?! The rubber coating of the sticks is gone and they have turned kinda yellowish. Yet I can't believe they've worked for this long. I assume the Starfield one will break in a year if my friend's track record with Xbox One controllers is any indication of poorer build quality over the years...
I do have a pretty super colorful wired knockoff controller that works fine so I really didn't need this one. But maybe I should live a little once in a while!
