This isn't excluding people who were late to the MET. Yet, I am curious for those who started with MET in 2005 (like me) what they expected with Andromeda. I've completed two runs so far... one preset shortened and then one custom 100% viability... and I find myself indifferent. Do you feel this is the beginning of a story that you will invest in? Does it matter that this is associated with the Mass Effect universe? Was that even a true SO? Would that have changed your opinion of Andromeda if it wasn't associated with the ME universe?

- I like the IP, I expected a new story since Shepard is done, Andromeda gave me that. - I am curious as about what turns out with Kett and Jardaan, but then MEA lacks presentation and imagination, it is unfinished, I think BW lost their mojo, right now, very indifferent if I will invest more time or not. - Being ME universe made me like the game more, if MEA were new IP, I would not like it (not because the story, characters, writing, whatever is "bad" but because I am basicaly playing the alpha version of a game) - SO?

those who started with MET in 2005 Late 2007, actually. Good questions. I've got pretty much what I was expecting. This is a true ME game in its atmosphere and feel. Was it a true spin-off? I say - for sure. Why would you think otherwise? Did it matter that it is a Mass Effect game? I think so, because it's an already-familiar universe. Bioware didn't have to spend much of the storyline playtime establishing the universe, we got into action right from the start.

Yes, very much so. Probably. I guess so, whatever now a space opera is defined as. Would probably have picked it up later than pre-order if not associated with Bioware. As it is now, new space opera or follow up in ME universe from Bioware makes no difference.

ME background does make it more interesting for me, but in the same time sets up some expectations which MEA fails to deliver. Right now main story and most of character failed to catch me, but so did DAI until Trespasser, so I keep my hopes for something like that in MEA. If that fails too, well, gaming industry doesn't end on Bioware. If this was not Mass Effect i would of never touched it after seeing the reviews.😊 I'd try it sooner or later anyway. Niche of space sci-fi rpgs is simply devoid of competition at the moment and will be in foreseeable future.

I'm looking forward to another trilogy. I enjoyed my two playthroughs and am working on a third one now. I'm confident good things are to come, as Bioware gets more acclimated to Frostbite and learns from this first installment.
I do hope they return to a class system though. Never been a fan of jack-of-all-trade systems.

I wasnt't sure if a game that will be labled Mass Effec could ever interest me again. Actually extremely sceptical. But then I've heard they want to do something new, that this time is will be more of exploration and settling on new worlds. More diplomacy than living the military dream. A Mass Effect that tries something different, something new. No badass N7superbunnies saving the world from starbrat. And if there will be more of it, I'm in. As long as it stays "Mass effect Andromeda: a pathfinder story" and don't end in another spectre and n7 story I'm in. I always wondered what will be out there in this "Mass Effect" universe and if there would be more and interesting stories other than these nice fairytails about a Commander Shepard and cool spectres.

IS ANDROMEDA THE BEGINNINGS OF A SPACE OPERA? Yes. Yes. Yes Yes. Yes and no. Mostly no. If you come to the table knowing what to expect (unlike most of the crybabies on this forum) Andromeda fulfills the gaming needs I expect from Bioware.

I've been pretty invested in the story since I started, so I guess yes. As for a space opera, that's very much what this is, standalone or no, since the fantastical technological elements are not going away.

I think it’s a rather typical Space Opera, including the move to another timeline and location, while keeping the setting recognizable.
ME franchise evolution for ME1-ME2/3-Andromeda is very similar to the KOTOR-KOTOR2-SWTOR evolution, except it was passed between different studios under BioWARE umbrella, rather than between Bio and Obsidian.
Both are strong IPs and attractive settings, and both undergone some changes in structure of the game itself, though Andromeda’s game structure resembles MET more closely than SWTOR resembles KOTOR/KOTOR2 as it remained within the constraints of an SP game with a rather more limited MP component.
In terms of transition of the core story in the franchise, Andromeda imo handled Shepard better than SWTOR handled Revan/Exile.
Finally, in terms of sequel, Ryders’ Family Saga is fairly well chosen, as the protagonist is malleable and can evolve easily if the developer decides on a more modular story to mimic ME2/3 structure more closely, and it has a couple of hooks for expanded protagonists’ background and is very personal to him/her. On the other hand, the idea of a “pathfinder” allows to switch the protagonist and advance the timeline if desired, as long as they occupy the same “job”, and the “job” itself can evolve depending on the circumstances.
So, to answer the original question, imo, Andromeda is an installment rather than a beginning of a Mass Effect Space Opera.

I wish we had gotten a game like that, I would have been pretty interested in a ME game that focused on exploration and discovery instead of pew-pew'ing an endless horde of baddies. That would have been something really different, but I guess the shooter and MP crowds wouldn't have gone for it so MEA turned out to be more of the same as far as gameplay is concerned.

Howard is an rpg god builder, how dare you insult our lord and savior!. He who walks his paths and knows his creations will be lifted up into new worlds. Amen.😃 Seriously though that bugger is the man. Never was bothered by bugs in Bethesda games (never had any game breaking issues console side). Just pure addictive games, to this day i still play most of Bethesdas games now and then. Especially Fallout 3/vegas/4 , Oblivion /Skyrim and Doom. God i want a remastered Morrowind...😣

I play on console as well and have experienced bugs in all Bethesda games. But overall it seems that Bethesda's games get passes on bugs and glitches because they're Bethesda games. It's like when someone buys a Bethesda game, they should expect bugs
