I thought objects defying laws of physics is the 101 of the universe. It's like, in the title. Why aren't they saying sth like "I wonder what generates mass effect fields here?" or "this planet... is it inherently biotic?"? Sorry if it was discussed before, but it just struck me now. Earlier I had a gripe with this because space explorers should expect the unexpected in the first place and floating rocks isn't some kind of mind-boggling concept. It's just I never realised that of all things floating rocks is probably THE thing that should be 'been there, done that'. It gets even funnier that in the same prologue Cora comes out as a biotic, like, you know, the kind of person who makes things float in the air and nobody is like WHOOAAAH WHAT DID YOU DO so that kills a possible theory that AI recruited some space rednecks who spent their lives on a space farms watching space cows milk themselves. Well, if I saw a floating rock... whether it be now or that far flung into the future, I would still say, "Wow." It's not a common sight. The same thing can be said if I saw a three-breasted Asari. I would say, "Wow."

the laws of physics apply everywhere. Biotics don't occur naturally. You have to have some kind of technological engine that converts eezo into mass effect fields. Although, as a sci-fi trope, floating rocks is far from novel and quite cliche, in a realistic context and even with mass effect lore, floating rocks would still be weird. They never really explain it, now that I think of it. Of course the remnant tech has gravity wells and I think the scourge messes around with gravity but unfortunately the game doesn't really explore the logistics of this. Exactly. Weird stuff always get the "wow..." effect.

Because the writers for Andromeda have a background of writing fan-fiction, not science fiction. I never said this aloud, but there are better writers here on the unofficial forums. Look at the Roleplay section. I'm a little intimidated to join. But yeah... the writing needed serious polish and editing. EA, Enthusiasm Annihilated.

Now that I think about it, if these were Dragon Age characters and they saw all the weird things floating, they would think they were in the fade.

the two acted bewildered , panicked and confused. What nature hikes have you been on. I didn't get that impression playing through that. To each their own. But then, I felt the dialog frequently did not match the situations the characters were in. they're constantly in awe at the floating rocks, screaming as lightning bolt we're falling downon them and were constantly panic and confused by the beings and animals that came across, freaked out over an animal that was invisible, got upset when they saw their friends getting beat up by the kett, and Liam had a freek out and unload his weapon on a dead kett out of rage.there even a time they panic and run out of a room because they think something in it is going to blow up.And it all starts with Ryder screaming as they fall from a crashing drop ship... Seriously, these nature walks of yours, where do you take them so I can see how crazy it gets.I need a reference to see how you can call what Ryder went through on that planet a nature walk.

asshole to put something out as a commodity instead of taking pride in art. If it's a commodity, I'll remove myself from the Bioware fan club. EA, Enthusiasm Annihilated. As I said before in this topic. Anyone who knows science knows what going on.....magnetic levitation and electrostatic levitation. All caused by the massive electric storms that are on the planet which the faulty vault is causing. What going on that planet is only unlikely not impossible.

Keep playing. You'll be asking more "why"s as it keeps going. Same here. Every time I had to reload a save. Every time I heard a dialogue line that seemed completely out of place or just out of sync with the scene. Every time the ground textures went missing. Every time you clear an area and the objective is still incomplete. Why? Why? Why?

Exactly where and when have we seen floating rocks as a thing? I'm pretty sure it didn't happen anywhere in my OT playthroughs. Nor, in fact, did we ever see lightning shooting up from the ground. Something was off about that planet. However, I think the rocks were still floating when we left Habitat 7 so I'm baffled by it all.

The thing that I love?
Ya know that somebody is piloting the Hyperion, right? Ya know they have a window at the very least, and several instruments at the most?
Ya know how they hit scourge, right?
HOW?

What if the Geth also had a secret Ark of their own and the Humans Accidentally swapped Arks with them because the Geth Ark was structurally stronger? That would explain why Captain Dunn decided to not do her job and fly right into a Scourgefield.

HOW? Sensors don't pick up the scourge, so even if they saw it they may not have felt the need to go around it. The scourge also moves so it's possible that it reacted to the Hyperion's presence.

HOW? The game doesn't explain it but the book does. The Scourge movies. It attacked a stationary Nexus (as well as a moving Nexus, prior to anyone coming out of cryo). It also doesn't get picked up by sensors. Still, just because someone is piloting the Hyperion doesn't mean it's highly maneuverable. Nothing suggests it is since primarily it was meant to go from Point A (Luna orbit) to Point B (Heleus Cluster/Nexus). Also, that shit is all over Eriksson System, more so than in many other systems. Dodging it might not have been possible, given that they were already in that system when they woke from cryo.

Keep playing. You'll be asking more "why"s as it keeps going. funny that the person who like hard science fiction so much does not not when the story uses hard science friction. "Wow, floating rocks." Such hard science. Much sci-fi. That doesn't even account for those magical mushrooms and general fantasy-esque look of Habitat 7. Like, you can't throw in Bugs Bunny and detail his anatomy in the codex entry and meanwhile the characters point out how funny it is that Bugs Bunny is in the game. Floating Rocks =/= hard sci-fi not even if they tried to make an explanation in the codex. It primarily felt like some kind of device for spectacle or cool because some art-dude said "Hey I can make really cool floating rock formations in 3D!"

I associate "FTL" with movement so I imagine some kind of oversized telescope that flies through the air.
I mean... ah, how is it going to work? Speed of light is what determines how we see when we see it due to the natural order of things. FTL is a fictional science fact but their reason for it is that by decreasing the weight of something it can basically go through an almost intra-dimensional tunnel and thereby cheat science. An FTL telescope is just a telescope of some sort. What is it that moves through the air that grabs the information ahead of speed of light so a naked human eye or Geth CPU can read it within mere seconds? The whole concept is just a big non-sequitur.

Never mind how we aquired those pictures in 24 hours!" Exactly! Once I heard the scan before they left, the floating rocks were passe. Sad thing is planets don't really change viability that much in 2 million years. At least ours didn't. They could have just used realistic measurements. But this conversation opens another can of worms regarding science, logic and the writing.
