I thought objects defying laws of physics is the 101 of the universe. It's like, in the title. Why aren't they saying sth like "I wonder what generates mass effect fields here?" or "this planet... is it inherently biotic?"?
Sorry if it was discussed before, but it just struck me now. Earlier I had a gripe with this because space explorers should expect the unexpected in the first place and floating rocks isn't some kind of mind-boggling concept. It's just I never realised that of all things floating rocks is probably THE thing that should be 'been there, done that'. It gets even funnier that in the same prologue Cora comes out as a biotic, like, you know, the kind of person who makes things float in the air and nobody is like WHOOAAAH WHAT DID YOU DO so that kills a possible theory that AI recruited some space rednecks who spent their lives on a space farms watching space cows milk themselves.

the laws of physics apply everywhere. Biotics don't occur naturally. You have to have some kind of technological engine that converts eezo into mass effect fields.
Although, as a sci-fi trope, floating rocks is far from novel and quite cliche, in a realistic context and even with mass effect lore, floating rocks would still be weird.
They never really explain it, now that I think of it. Of course the remnant tech has gravity wells and I think the scourge messes around with gravity but unfortunately the game doesn't really explore the logistics of this.

Because they defy physics.
In Mass effect elemtn zero is used to generate Mass effect fields, but a planet shouldn't have naturally floating rocks, because element zero is more of a space thing.

I think they were trying to show that Liam and Sara/Scott are not Shepherd, by having them act extra goofy and immature, when they saw strange things. I think they go overboard in that area though and wish they wouldn't do that.

Because the writers for Andromeda have a background of writing fan-fiction, not science fiction.

The main protagonists at that time weren't as experienced as Shepard. Also in the OT a planet with floating mountains would have been worth mentioning too. Not really a common thing.

What you should be asking is why was Ryder not floating and instead was falling. Exactly. Gravity was working normally, yet there were anomalies in forms of floating rocks that were often struck by lightning moments later. That warrants a whiskey tango foxtrot.

I don't remember any flying rocks in the previous games. Habitat 7 Codex: "Intense magnetic activity in unknown metallic elements interacts with the storms, causing interesting but highly destructive electrical phenomena." " Ryder-I remains storm-wracked, with intense magnetic activity."

Dude...what? Do you not understand how impossible it is to have naturally float rocks in nature even with element zero? Even element zero in it's natural state does not float on it's own. The effect that is going on that planet is called electrostatic levitation. It an effect that use static electricity to repel objects for one another. What amazing about that planet it the the electric storms are so frequent and so powerful it's causing a constant electricstatic levitation effect with the rocks.

I think they go overboard in that area though and wish they wouldn't do that. What did they say that was particularly goofy or immature when they observed them? I didn't hear anything. But really, what would Shepard say? My guess is probably similar if not identical to what Liam said, judging by her dialogue in the trilogy.

I didn't really get any notable impressions either way. It just seemed like something weird that was mentioned in a passing comment. We just didn't have some scientist to really get into the nitty gritty of why it was even happening, but then, in Mass Effect, we usually never did.

All caused by the massive electric storms that are on the planet which the faulty vault is causing. It also hint to how the vaults effect planets as well.

I didn't get that impression playing through that. To each their own. But then, I felt the dialog frequently did not match the situations the characters were in.
