NAh.... I'm sure DA4 will be launched in the Fall. Bio committed to it no? Corrine said so no? The console version is at Steam being tested there. That's a milestone. Bio/EA marketing is in full swing. Bio devs are squawking about the game... all good signs that "progress" is moving along. Even Shinobi said so.
But I'm curious why EA is only showing the sports game(s) at Gamescon and no Bio devs at SDCC.... must be a cost issue. Investors can be demanding at times.
I'm no seer but I imagine the fact that every BioWare game gets trashtalked relentlessly before release for the most petty and trivial matters has made them a lot more cautious in their marketing. BioWare has some seriously dedicated haters, because BioWare was *the* pioneer in what they perceive as the "woke agenda" in video games. It's a symbol. Also, they want to avoid getting themselves into a situation where they have to delay the game. Better to just announce it when it's good and ready. Why is this an issue? I'm actually super happy they are keeping the lid on the pot. Don't need a "my face is tired" for what is probably BioWare's final test in viability. If there's one thing I've learned for the past few years, is that gamers can be VERY forgiving. Your company can be rife with sexual harassment accusations, reports of extreme crunch, and incompetent management but some gamers look past that if the game is good not necessarily great. We saw that with Cyberpunk's "comeback". Some gamers are willing to forget and are happily looking forward to the next installment without looking at the company with a critical eye.

All we need is her to do a detective monologue and we’re set! Neve: When you sit at home, comfortably folded up in a chair beside a fire, have you ever thought... what goes on outside there? Heh, probably not. *blows out smoke ring* You pick up a book and read about demons and blood sacrifice, getting a vicarious kick from people and events that never happened. Eh, you're doing it now--getting ready to fill in a normal life with the details of someone else's experiences. Fun, isn't it? You read about life in the shadows, thinking about how maybe you'd like it to happen to you, least how you'd like to read it. Even the ancient magisters did it, spiced their life with action and watched slaves rip each other limb from limb, reveling in the sight of blood and terror. They screamed for joy and slapped each other on the back with murderous claws, and cheered when the kill was made. Oho, it was great to watch alright; life through a keyhole. Day after day goes by and nothing like that ever happens to you, so you think that it's all in books and exaggerated tavern tales, not in reality at all and that's that. Still a good story, though. Tomorrow night you'll find another book, another tale, forgetting what was in the last and living only in your imagination. But remember this: there are things, happening out there. And I've seen them.
*Thousand yard stare while rain pours down. Jazz music intensifies.*

All we need is her to do a detective monologue and we’re set! Laughing at my brain misreading your post. For some reason, I read monologue as monocle. As a fashion accessory, I think it would suit her just fine. She needs a pipe and smoke in the rain while monologuing as well. XD

Maybe if someone took Neil Druckmann aside and told him to reign his unrealistic expectations, then perhaps TLOU multiplayer would've been completed.

Daria @kvtdaria.bsky.social Hi! 👀 It's surprising that no one has asked yet, or you don't answer questions like this. But Solavellans all over the world are worried, building theories, waiting for something special... So, could you at least hint about something? A little bit? So as not to go crazy. ❤️ Trick Weekes @trickweekes.bsky.socialLike @eplerjc.bsky.social said in the interview video, we think we have a story that will work for players who loved Solas, hated Solas, or are new to the series and have no idea who Solas is. Will we have an option to make scrambled eggs made out of Solas' head?

Concord is another hero shooter right? I mean it's not like the genre has been doing so hot right now. Even Overwatch 2, the most notable hero shooter is a game known for its web of controversies.

I'd argue MEA's characters were better presented than ME1's, but unlike the trilogy they were not given three games to become endeared to the players. Only Stockholm syndrome could have saved MEA's cast - it's true.

yeah I agree. They are making a big deal of it but really them 'focusing on companions' is like five percent beyond what they normally do. And while that clearly makes us think of ME 2, the rest of the language about going on a journey makes me think of DA2/ MEA. With a dash of DAI in this given the opening. Part of what made DA2 special though was that it was in one place over a long period of time, which let you really connect with your companions and Kirkwall as it changed throughout the years. Granted this wasn't done perfectly due to the rushed nature of the game, but there are few rpgs I've played that feel anything like 2. If DAV can capture that magic with better execution, as well as maintain the interesting philosophical and theological debates from Inquisition, it will easily be my favorite in the series. Also it helps that companions have lives of their own rather than sit in a campfire waiting for you to talk to them, they go out and hangout with each other. It makes them feel like they're family however dysfunctional they are lol. That's why I feel that DA2's companions are the best because of how tightknit they are.

I can only speak for myself but even the BioWare companions I've hated, Jack, Liara, Isabella, and Oghren, I've still tried to enjoy as much of their content as possible because they were BioWare companions and largely still needed to work with them in order to get our objectives done. Again don't have to like them but it does behoove one to see where they are coming from to see if they are actually a good character or not. THough this is also depending on the vagaries of the game as well since some decisions I've made in regards to these characters have locked them out of content, like I'm pretty sure Isabella has never made it to Act 3...at least not for my canon Hawke. I never had Isabella stay either, and I can imagine I'd have felt somewhat put out if she was forced on us for the entirety of the game. At the very least, I assume Bioware would give us the ability to react negatively to companions we dislike, the way we were able to in DAI with Sera and Solas. The only companion I came close to hating was Sera but at least she was largely irrelevant to DAI's story.

blood magic itself isn't going anywhere. Blood Magic wasn't very prominent in Inquisition and it was their best seller. It wasn't too prominent in Origins as it focused on the Blight as well. Blood magic will still be there especially in Tevinter, we just won't wield anymore.

Getting too many awards is a great problem to have. The combat and graphics in DA4 are much worse than BG3. Have to wait and see which has better quests, story, and characters. Luckily DA4 isn’t competing against BG3 for awards this year. As far as me wanting DA4 to win awards, it depends on how good it is compared with other games coming out this year. Man this kind of commentary doesnt make sense to me. You haven't even tried the combat yet nor seen the game on your own screen to make such statements. Imagine talking about impeccable BG3 graphics when Act 3 exists. Honestly the graphics on DAV look better than BG3.

Nah, that’s just bad writing pandering to the player. Oh no, the only people interested in making evil choices will then experience bad writing that "panders" to their way to play the game while the people who don't make those choices will never see the bad writing at all. The horror. Did you read what he even wrote? He said he had no problem having evil choices as long as it makes sense.

Companions aren't going to try to kill you over stabbing a peasant, lol. Dragon Age is, or was, a dark fantasy that resembles the Medieval era. Alistair was probably the 'greenest' companion of the bunch, and he quietly watched Duncan shank Jory for not completing the joining. Life is tough, and Thedas is full of ruthless people. That, and our protagonists are meant to, by default, be quite strong and imposing leaders. Unless you step way out of a companions ethical lines, like the Urn of Sacred Ashes, mutiny isn't going to be taken lightly. There's a difference between stabbing a guy to preserve a dark secret and killing a peasant for no reason. I'd still say realistically, the good aligned companions would definitely try to kill you for acting like a psychopath.

To considerably varying degrees, sure. I don't think many could argue with a straight face that Andromeda, or even DAI, offered anywhere near the same role playing opportunities for a ruthless character as other prior Bioware games. sure if you compare the Inquisitor to 'actually stupid evil and usually gets away with it Warden'... But Ryder probably had the single most ruthless choice in the entire ME series plus could be every bit as mission first oriented, thumb nose up at authority, or not working for the 'greater good' as Shepard. Yeah, thinking of Origins, there was just a lot of options where you just murder people for no reason. It's funny but it doesn't make much sense narrative and realistically your good companions would probably try to kill you lol. I think there's a difference between ruthless and just being some psychopath on a power trip.

Can we still play as an asshole? Because their answer isn´t that spefic. For example can Rook kill characters like Yavaris for just the reason alone that he annoyed the playercharacter? Meanwhile i hope that purple Rook can be as unhinged as purple Hawke. Some of the things that purple Hawke could say in DA2 honestly made them sound like a psychopath without them killing anyone. I really hope that we'll have more moments like this. I NEED the sarcastic option to quip at the most inappropriate moments lol.

Are you talking about Because that sounds like doubling down, not clarifying. Keeping the bad guy stuff bad and the good guy stuff good. Here's that line. I mean, I made the realization that some of the name choices they've gone with were for the newbie idiot players who don't know lore. But this is taking simplicity down to the toddler level. So how can the choices of the names, I am assuming you mean the organizational names, be for newbie idiots, when the names in question require some familiarity with Dragon Age lore to understand their importance and their intrigue. The Veil Jumpers. What is the Veil? Are we talking about something for a wedding? Wedding crashers? That is what a newbie would probably think. Or something involving death? Shadow Dragons. OK...Dragons who hunt in the shadows...but they would know nothing of how important the name has to do with the Tevinter Imperium and the potential implications from that. The Lords of Fortune are a bit on the nose I guess, but then the Mourn Watch? And speaking of being on the nose you have always had the Grey Wardens which again are pretty much as straightforward as you can get. They just sound 'cool'. Meanwhile the game is still going to be rated M, we have seen that much established in the trailers so far, and the same amount of complexity DA has been known for, the same level of moral complexity, moral grayness, was exhibited in the trailer and the gameplay. So its absurd to think that this has been done in an effort to take the simplicity down to the level of a 'toddler'. Its more likely that they want to do it because the inclusion of such things tends to make things into a binary. The inclusion of blood magic and the evil decisions in Origins has been some of the examples of the least nuanced, least mature, elements of the series. It just enabled players to be evil for the sake of evil largely without consequence that was appropriate to what they were doing in the universe. There is a bit of a theme in the boards around here but the inclusion of blood magic does not prove anything about the game other then you can do blood magic...the existence of evil choices does not prove anything about the game then you can do evil choices...the existence of brothels don't prove anything about the game other then brothels exist. And the same goes on and on for any of these very specific. None of these things make a mature interesting game by itself. Letting the protagonist do these things don't make a mature interesting thing by itself. Its all the gestalt of the whole game, the whole experience, is what makes it interesting. If these things are done well, they can be interesting window dressing to think about and help paint the larger picture of a mature game...but when these things are done poorly, they became determents and distractions to those objections. Yeah, Dragon Age has always been mature despite their strange decisions like removing the healer class in Inquisition. I don't think it's going to be binary and besides, given what we know of our companions, being a blood mage is going to be a very hard sell.

Weekes is writing Tash a lord of Fortune who hunts dragons. She is killing an endangered species for the glory and the bling. So she's the kind of hero we want around ? I understand not wanting blood magic because you don't wanna waste story ressources on combat spe. But implying it's all about the moral high ground is silly. Some of the what-about-isms I have seen in this thread are an interesting read. But we aren't hunting down Dragons in Veilguard 'for the glory and the bling', even if that is what will result for such things but the set up we got from the Thedas Calls trailer and the blog stuff which came out makes it quite clear that the Dragons are causing issues, destroying property, taking lives. And humans do tend to hunt other creatures or otherwise neutralize them if they are a danger to human lives. Other less then sentient creatures also hunt down different creaturs if there lives are also threatened. That does tend to be a pretty universal law and the one reason why, no matter what else happens with Solas's plan, his plan to cause mass casualties needs to be stopped. So, while it might be a grey choice, its still a justified one. Which is a whole different ball of wax from demon binding, mind control, blood sacrifice, the works. For largely the same reasons. Stripping someone of their free will or their life are pretty much two big moral lines that one shouldn't cross unless under the most extreme circumstances. Again, maybe they couldn't worded it better, but honestly they are perfectly right. Blood magic while it may be 'morally neutral' by itself it opens up the possibility for a lot of evil, the quick and easy path. I think this has been best seen with Rezaren from Tevinter Nights, just how quickly one can go from 'I will use my own blood' to 'die slaves!' So they may have other reasons for doing it but it seems perfectly reasonable to restrict it based on moral grounds because it can be. Besides, it's not like Dragons were peaceful, we've seen plenty of scenes of them causing death and destruction. Yes Tash's motivations are less than noble, but we don't blink because the creatures she's killing aren't exactly the kinds you want to hang around lol.

This is actually one of my chief concerns about DAV and I wonder whether the maturity rating is going to be limited to gore scenes and nudity only, without giving the players a chance to RP someone more complex than another saviour of the world. I'd like a chance to play an anti-hero or a hero going rogue (or the other way around) instead of the dumbed down evil-jerk trope or a protagonist who is somehow railroaded into making heroic choices because of the underlying assumption that heroes remain heroes no matter what. other then ME 3 and Origins this really isn't something that BioWare has struggled with so I'm not that worried about it. I mean we had the option to commit genocide against the Dalish in all three Dragon Age games. I'm not really worried about Bioware enabling us to do morally questionable things lol.
