I want to get into SP but they really boned the opening mission. Within the first 30 minutes of the Mass Effect 1 opening mission - the playable part after you get done talking to everyone on the Normandy - you: * Watch Jenkins die. * Fight some Geth. * Meet Ashley. * Watch Saren betray and murder ThatOtherTurian. * Have a crazy Lovecraftian vision from the Prothean Beacon. Within the first 30 minutes of the Mass Effect Andromeda mission - the playable part after you get done talking to everyone on the Space Noah's Ark - you: * Wander around and practice jumping. * Listen to Liam prattle on. * Fight some Kett. * Maybe explore a Remnant ruin. And that's it. No antagonist introduction, no teammate introduction, no sense of the larger story. BORE. ING. Kids these days have zero patience for slower paced stories do they? If you gave it another 15-20 minutes you would have seen a bit more and the antagonist introduced. And the game sets up quite a bit for future content and sequels throughout the game. It really makes me think people just wanted a carbon copy of ME1. But, then they would have gone all Force Awakens on people and complain that it's too similar. I don't think Bioware could win with this one. People are too fickle nowadays. I'm 37 and I agree with him. The game starts off painfully slow.. so slow that it becomes hard to get into. Until you meet the Angarans on the second planet.. it's a snoozefest. However.. once you meet/get Jaal (who is the best executed character IMO) it picks up significantly.

This. The complete lack of any emotion in SP along with the disney like animation just shuts down the story for me. Ryder values family about as much as I value my pet rock Steve. Well, to be fair, dad was always off doing awesome stuff like being an N7, fighting turians, and covertly researching illegal AIs with help from shady benefactors to save mom. Never had time to get too attached to him. Biower writing an interesting and badass character only to kill him off in the first hour, and make us play as wet-behind-the-ears hipster hairdo sissy junior instead, is just another example of designers and writers suffering from the terminal stages of the cancer that is marketing.

Old grumpy murdermonster and teen girl cluelesness to play off of? whats not to love? I agree. I've spent most of Voeld swapping characters around to see what combos I like, and Drack and Peebee are the best so far. Jaal's good with a lot of chars, but I find his and Cora's flirting to be awkward past the point of being funny.

I like the idea of a Krogan-sacrifice-for-the-greater-good being stuck working with a bunch of bureaucrats). I'm still really early, only on Voeld and have briefly visited Havarl, but it does look like Jaal is going to get the most of a story arc of any of the companions. I kinda feel bad not having him around, as he seems to have been designed to have been one of your most regular companions, with lots of commentary about the worlds and history and stuff.

I admit I actually do enjoy SP... The first hour or so I played the first time I was about to give up, because seeing Phoebe with that ridiculous animation on top of the already very childish conversations just made me cringe.. I nearly threw my controller into the tv and stomped on my PS4, I kid you not! But then after a few moments of breaks I decided to carry on and give it another chance and I'm actually glad I did, it got better! Not brilliantly better but better as in really good imo. For me it's enjoyable once you get through the first hour, maybe a bit more, enough to meet the angarians and I'd be lying if I'd said that I hated playing the SP. That actually does remind me of something. Did you guys see the backwards pistol bug too in you playthroughs? fuck me they never fixed it! I was paying attention 100% when we first met her if it was there, and yes it was...

I actually made it through the SP so that is definitely saying something. DA: I was so bad I couldn't even force myself to finish it. It does get a bit grindy with the side quests, but like I said...I played all the way through it.

You're probably right about him being the only good one lol He's not bad, not at all, I just miss the ones like Wrex and Grunt, I compare too much And if you haven't played that much of the story yet, then I won't reveal too much but definitely bring Jaal around some more, he's really funny with his comments and especially when he's paired with Drack! But I also liked him in general and it's funny, cause I hated him my first playthrough lol, I thought he was hideous but then I tried his romance and he's absolutely the one who got the most content out of everyone, maybe except for Cora but I dare even say that he got more than her (I've tried hers as well) and I just liked his story a lot after that. Yes... I've played sp more than once now... Oh, and I agree about Jaals flirting with Cora being annoying lol, he does it with all the females, even though you're in a romance with him, I mean what the hell bioware??

Jaal and Peebee are also really funny together. I cracked up when she faked having sex with Ryder to check if he was really sleeping. Lol.
As for the Krogan, I like Drack, I like Kesh (she's more calm than Drack, but it's was established in previous games that females are more level-headed than males). Only major one I couldn't stand was the Overlord. Didn't help that she sounds like a guy pretending to be a valley girl.
I actually really like the Angara and their society, as well.
Overall, I liked all the characters. Cora was pretty vanilla, Liam funny at times, lame at others. Rest of the cast was fun. Jaal probably ended up being my favorite followed by blue Shrek... Er, Peebee.
I just hope future games really expand in your crew and their stories.

Complete freedom of powers is BS. I just picked my 3 fave power I can chain combo, a dash of passives, and now all these other levels I'm gaining are meaningless. So the motivation to level up is now gone too. Bravo, BioFail. Yeah, this- the freedom to pick any 3 powers is fun at first... but once you level up past 30 or so, where you've maxed your 3 skills and all the relevant passives, leveling becomes completely worthless. They had a good idea, but they failed to implement it in an effective manner. Still, the SP is relatively entertaining; just nothing all that special and certainly nowhere near the original trilogy.

But the game did go all The Force Awakens on us.

I have personally been very interested in the SP.
Just because it's lower key than the original trilogy doesn't make it bad.
It easily could have been a remixed carbon copy of the OG trilogy with a new galactic threat and whatnot, but it took a slower pace (me1 was pretty slow for the most part too, anybody who claims otherwise is off their rocker), and built a new world for a new series.
I am enjoying it, 60% completion so far.

I'm 37 and I agree with him. The game starts off painfully slow.. so slow that it becomes hard to get into. Until you meet the Angarans on the second planet.. it's a snoozefest. However.. once you meet/get Jaal (who is the best executed character IMO) it picks up significantly. Soooooooooooo....you are saying it's kinda like anal sex. Just keep pushing and eventually you will get into it? Single player doesn't need lube. @stardusk: No.. never seen one. They're too deep, and only come up shallow to feed at night.

Drack is our only good Krogan though :sob: (actually I think I like his granddaughter too, just wish she had more to do/say, not a lot there so far. He's shaped like a penis for a reason.
