...My second conceptual issue is overall seriousness of the theme and casual approach to it by Mr. Frazier. I don't think it is appropriate and does not seem to be well done based on what people say, this thread including. You've got to be very gifted and spend a lot of polish time to create something M*A*S*H* style and even MASH is barely walking a fine line while Meda is just half-arsed bad attempt. So, I'm really very reluctant to even try based on my own grim experience during the first hour. It just depreciates the genre, story and anything too much giving out too little... People deal with adversity in different ways. We've already had three games with Shepard: The stoic, grizzled, experienced, military minded soldier. Now we have Ryder, the not-so-stoic, military guy/girl. Ryder deals with things differently than Shepard. Where Shepard was mostly serious and boring, Ryder tries to throw some humor into situations (albeit not always good humor, I admit). Ryder grows as the story progresses. He/she was thrown into a position of leadership when the current pathfinder passed. In the beginning, Ryder is very green, but by the end of the story, Ryder is a strong leader with a loyal team. They still crack jokes here and there to ease tension and form bonds, but humor is a coping mechanism for many people irl. Just look at the current situation in the US for example: Comedians and late night talk show hosts joke about Donald Trump constantly. They do this largely because they feel they're in a hopeless situation so they use humor to cope. Lastly, you said " I don't think it is appropriate and does not seem to be well done based on what people say". To that I say: Try it yourself and form your own opinion. There was a ton of hate and bandwagon jumping when the game was released. It was popular to voice negative opinions of the game and people enjoyed being a part of that echo chamber. The game isn't perfect, but it's far from a bad game. It's huge, immersive, has interesting characters, you get to see the galaxy change because of actions you made (settlements, environmental changes, Nexus progress and Arks attached to it, etc), the combat is fun, the worlds are beautiful and very varied, etc. My advice to you is to give it an honest and unbiased try. Don't go into the game thinking you're going to hate it because you've heard it's bad. That mindset often leads to self-fulfilling prophecy.

Try playing an engineer and assault rifles. Eventually the scaling will make it a slog. ARs are pretty meh in general, though the Thokin with that seeker mod is pretty good. Far as scaling goes thought that wasn't an issue till level 80 plus. I might give Insanity another try with a fresh start - NG+ experience (wanted to try engineer) was quite underwhelming - even a Black Widow infiltrator made the enemies feel bullet spongy. I switched to Isharay to have some headshot success - but now the crewmates are back to useless meatshields...

I admit I actually do enjoy SP... The first hour or so I played the first time I was about to give up, because seeing Phoebe with that ridiculous animation on top of the already very childish conversations just made me cringe.. I nearly threw my controller into the tv and stomped on my PS4, I kid you not! But then after a few moments of breaks I decided to carry on and give it another chance and I'm actually glad I did, it got better! Not brilliantly better but better as in really good imo. For me it's enjoyable once you get through the first hour, maybe a bit more, enough to meet the angarians and I'd be lying if I'd said that I hated playing the SP. There's a lot more to the game beyond the first 30 hours, but damn... with all the glitches, game-breaking bugs on the PS4 console, it's ruined for me. I'm willing to give it another go on the PC once it's thoroughly patched and all the DLC is bundled in so I'm not spending time in the troubleshooting forums. I'm done doing that. I agree on the glitches, they're annoying as hell! Especially the save one, it's insanely annoying. I thought at first that it was just me who had that problem but I'm glad that it's not now that I've read about several people encountering it and apparently it's going to be fixed,so that's something. It's not the only glitch though, there's many many more on the PS4 and it is sad cause I do enjoy the game a lot otherwise. I think my advice to those people who hasn't played it yet, is to wait until the next big patch has been released and then play it, that way you'll get the best experience. They're also adding a bunch of extra scenes and stuff as far as I could understand, so it's definitely best to wait.

Is it worth playing? Sure
I've done many playthroughs already with 3 of them being speedruns. I did a playthrough without putting any points in any powers. There's a lot of different things you can do. Its up to you. If you don't like it, stop and go back to what you were doing.
Will I do as many playthroughs as what I did with the trilogy? No.

Complete freedom of powers is BS. I just picked my 3 fave power I can chain combo, a dash of passives, and now all these other levels I'm gaining are meaningless. So the motivation to level up is now gone too. Bravo, BioFail. You're entitled to your opinion, but I completely disagree. I enjoy having the flexibility to switch between, say, a vanguard build for kett and an infiltrator specced for shield damage against remnant. I routinely make use of at least two of the profile slots, and the third and fourth occasionally. Besides respec'ing in Lexi's Med Bay is really cheap inexpensive I want to get into SP but they really boned the opening mission. Within the first 30 minutes of the Mass Effect 1 opening mission - the playable part after you get done talking to everyone on the Normandy - you: * Watch Jenkins die. * Fight some Geth. * Meet Ashley. * Watch Saren betray and murder ThatOtherTurian. * Have a crazy Lovecraftian vision from the Prothean Beacon. Within the first 30 minutes of the Mass Effect Andromeda mission - the playable part after you get done talking to everyone on the Space Noah's Ark - you: * Wander around and practice jumping. * Listen to Liam prattle on. * Fight some Kett. * Maybe explore a Remnant ruin. And that's it. No antagonist introduction, no teammate introduction, no sense of the larger story. BORE. ING. Kids these days have zero patience for slower paced stories do they? If you gave it another 15-20 minutes you would have seen a bit more and the antagonist introduced. And the game sets up quite a bit for future content and sequels throughout the game. It really makes me think people just wanted a carbon copy of ME1. But, then they would have gone all Force Awakens on people and complain that it's too similar. I don't think Bioware could win with this one. People are too fickle nowadays. They are departing from the trilogy and wants a new face on the franchise after all. This would be similar to DA2 in that it's just a vehicle for an opening story line. Hence why it feels so linear and boring.

I loved how ME1 had all this serious military vibe on board the Normandy with all the Alliance protocols and whatnot. It had a gritty navy realism feel to it that made it feel believable and immersive, telling you that space was srs bznz.
And in Andromeda? The narrative makes all this magic that Mass Effect had completely disappear. It's like we're playing a poorly written sitcom. Sure, ME3 had some really good jokes in the DLCs but this is the main story line we're talking about, you're the first human making footsteps in a completely new galaxy, and this is what they have to say:

It wasn`t hard for me to tell the first impression ruined the MEA review scores. BW was suppose to make immersive RPG game where players can build emotionally attachment, but BW decided to focusing on just giving us mindless side quests and chores along with other subpar things.

Found it, these are actually pretty good. The krogan is the real MVP of Andromeda cast.

The lack of reaction to DadRyder pining for the fjords is probably BioWare doing what BioWare does: Massively overcompensating to criticism of previous games. In this instance, Shep being forced to be all misty eyed about Thessia, Duct Kid haunting his dreams etc. Some people didn't like Sad Shep. So let's have Ryder be detached to the point of it being no surprise to find him torturing small animals in his off hours. See also: ME1 has a terrible inventory, ME2 has none. And many, many more. And despite that rocky start, I actually really like Ryder as a protagonist. Has to earn his respect, unlike Shepard starting the trilogy as a respected badass.

I wish there was more drama between Ryder and Vetra`s relationship.

it would have been far more interesting had this actually occured. But in reality its, oh hey your dad is god/Darth Vader/ you pulled the sword from the stone put this annoying computer in your head so now we will just hand you everything and you can save us all. Ryder didnt earn anything, you just get handed everything based on some silly title of pathfinder. The Chosen One stereotype isnt bad on its own, its just so thoroughly done already I had hoped for something better than another Chosen One story.

For all the criticisms of the writing in the game, one thing I think they've done well with Ryder is writing her as someone who had leadership thrust on her when she wasn't necessarily ready or prepared for it, and is struggling to figure it out. Naturally that feel will vary some between the specific choices players make, but the way I've been playing it's generally believable that she's someone young doing the best she can.

Where Shepard was mostly serious and boring, Ryder tries to throw some humor into situations (albeit not always good humor, I admit). ... Now, that I think about it, Bethesda should hire Mr. Frazier as a chief designer for their next Fallout game. That would be really humorous, I'd love to see what happens and what comes out of it. Won't buy the game though. Why limit yourself to USS Constitution or some silly island with silly fog when you can terraform convincingly based on what choices you make in the dialogue during your character development. A really innovative approach for the industry! Go, Frazier, go! ... My advice to you is to give it an honest and unbiased try. Don't go into the game thinking you're going to hate it because you've heard it's bad. That mindset often leads to self-fulfilling prophecy. That does not really tempt me. I have considerable trust in AngryJoe but I'll give it a go mostly relying on Nightman's impressive playtime adjusted for OWA's advice to wait for a couple of patches if they are actually coming. If there are no patches, I'll probably ditch it. I don't want to play every bad game out there just to form my own opinion about it.

I bought 6 copies of this game,3 of which were the super deluxe edition at $100 each.I am not the most impressed with the MP,and haven't touched the SP because I'm afraid I'll be equally disappointed.I'll give the game a little while for dlc's,balance changes, patches and fixes before I go into a full-on repeat of the ME3MP grind.

It's not epic, but it's not terrible. I am enjoying myself quite nicely. But the leveling up is massively disappointing. I've maxed out the powers I enjoy using most together plus the passives and I still have roughly 52 or so skill points sitting there unused and just racking up more because I... don't have any use for them, really. I can't say I ever encountered that in... well, any video game ever until this one, quite frankly.

I bought the game for single player and was planning on ignoring multiplayer.
I am now waiting for them to complete some of their announced changes for single player before I spend further time there. And, meanwhile, my APEX score is now well over 9000.
This feels so ironic, somehow.

I'm a dirty old bastard. The game needs more T&A. Hips and hangers in every scene. Cora, Peebee and Suvi should be pole dancing in my quarters.

I'm a dirty old bastard. The game needs more T&A. Hips and hangers in every scene. Cora, Peebee and Suvi should be pole dancing in my quarters. I was not completely sure what you were talking about, so I did a google search: tcsportcharlotte.com/Simpson-THJA26-Truss-Hip-Jack-Hanger.aspxYou might need some detergent, also, to clean the motor oil off of you? :ulikeit:

Gotta pick up on conversations though. Believe it or not, Cora trained with Asari Huntresses and like gardens. You'll never find out unless you REALLY pay attention. She's also really thirsty for your dad and walks like Vince McMahon.

Complete freedom of powers is BS. I just picked my 3 fave power I can chain combo, a dash of passives, and now all these other levels I'm gaining are meaningless. So the motivation to level up is now gone too. Bravo, BioFail. Heh, yeah, that's kinda where I ended up, too. I mean, I am actually enjoying running around in the story with the characters. They took all of the lessons that bethesda gets dinged on and ignored all the ones that kept Skyrim in the top 10 on steam for five years. As a designer, it's like looking at a perfect auto accident, to know that there were 1000 decisions made before these decisions locked this game into mediocrity, at best; and that's if they burned down the DLC chart and went all hands on deck to get things in long-term forward looking spot (they did not). Insulation is never the answer. It is long term DEATH to being able to create, manage and execute your customers expectations. Considering whom the head of Bioware is now, I would be brushing up on my CV, because she has no compunctions about completely gutting an underperforming studio and doing so with a smile on her face.

Who is this she you speak of and does she look like this?
