Not to sound too salty, but I think New Vegas was completely overrated. But then I'm really not a fan of Obsidian's style of writing most of the time. Characters vomit exposition at the drop of a hat and pretend to be more philosophically deep or relevant than they actually are.
Fallout 3 was to me the better game (and waaaay less buggy than NV), which 4 had much better characters.

Anyways, if you guys were to pick an alien race to be the next same gender romance options, who would you pick? Assuming we're still in Andromeda? Turian male, Angaran male, Krogan male. In that order.

I wish that Invasion could be detonated the way Dark Channel did in ME3. Because as it stands, Invasion is hard to justify a slot over combos. Because honestly, Energy Drain + Any Primer power is ridiculous.

Also, why would you put a vintage heat sink on a sniper rifle given that it's not a complete regression to ME1, but rather like the Lancer and PPR from ME3??

Why do people assume that stasis means a hard halt on all biological processes? That would kill people, not put them into stasis. And you would age in cryo, just very, very slowly.
Krogan metabolism is also a ridiculous thing given inherent cellular regeneration. So it'd be entirely possible to mutate the krogan while they're in cryo to help them adapt to the mutation without possibly risking their lives.

How would Jaal being bisexual in ANY way change the fact he shows emotions or enjoys certain past-times? The former is indicative of his entire race and the latter isn't something that would have a different meaning if he weren't straight. Also hold up: " I'm sorry but I'm not a fan of the idea that it's another favored love interest for straight women that needs to be changed."
Straight ladies had Garrus. AND Thane. The latter of which was specifically designed with ladies in mind. Straight ladies have been basically getting alien LIs since the series inception. Gay men have gotten- wait for it. Nothing. Zip. His writer clearly had some other ideas since we know there's a line of audio for Scott right from Jaal's romance scene too.Being emotional and enjoying sewing and poetry are traits usually attributed to women and treated as "feminine" and diminishing a straight man's masculinity. Showing that a badass straight male can enjoy those too is important to me. By all means let the devs add a gay alien squadmate to the game, but don't change an established character. I was referencing the complaints about the sexualities of Solas and Cullen specifically, complaints which even David Gaider spoke against. No character's particular sexuality should have to be "justified" for any reason. Coincidentally, those characters also had bi lines in the game files. It doesn't mean their writers thought they should be bi. They possibly contemplated it at some point, but ultimately decided to write another story. As is their right. They went not only so far as to write it, but to actually have the VAs record voice lines for the the possible intent of making use of said lines. That later those said lines didn't get used doesn't mean anything on the writer's part. I was told that Vetra's writer had to fight to get the character to be allowed to be bisexual. Fight. Which means the decision wasn't even necessarily in the writer's hands. Mass Effect 3 already had an incredibly low bar of expectations. Exactly one bisexual male squadmate (who was a character who never expressed an interest in men until that point) and a lone crew member, who's content was basically minuscule by comparison to everyone else. On top of that, not a single male alien squadmate, or even crewmate (of which can be counted on one hand and not even using all five fingers) have been gay/bisexual. Even JAVIK had a scene in the Citadel DLC which only occured with an unromanced FEMALE Shepard. Jaal being bi would've set MEA at a higher standard by and set it above the OT's painfully empty status quo. And again, nothing about him being bi would've violated any part of his character. Honestly, the only thing you'd really need to do is restore the audio, and maybe. MAYBE alter camera angles (since Scott's model is taller than Sara). But really, it wouldn't require that the scene be reinvented, and would actually be a huge step forward.

I have to say I agree. The whole idea of changing a character's sexuality post-launch is skeevy to me. Perhaps if they made MEA into a trilogy and decided to give Jaal some story arc of discovering his sexuality over the course of the games it could make some sense, but even then it could just turn into shoehorned tokenism, the way Kaidan sorta ended up. What the devs should probably do is give the established gay and bi characters more screen time and additional scenes, like more risque romance culminations, possibly even add a gay squadmate in DLC, but I'd like for the characters we have now to remain as they are. They have their preferences and personalities and it's a part of who they are to me. Any attempt to change Jaal now would result in another poorly copy-pasted romance path, with awkward animations and Jaal's lines still only referencing his attraction to women, and the people in the romance thread are already complaining how that apparently happened with Reyes, because Scott looks up at nothing in one of his scenes (meaning the animation was made with the shorter Sara in mind). Others want to romance Liam and won't be satisfied with an alien. It seems someone will always complain about what they're given because it's not exactly what they wanted, the devs really can't win. And additionally, I'm sorry but I'm not a fan of the idea that it's another favored love interest for straight women that needs to be changed. We don't get that many characters made with us in mind either, especially in the ME series, so I at least tend to cherish the ones we do get. Jaal is an amazing character in his own right, being a straight male who's not afraid to show his emotions and enjoys traditionally "female" pastimes, and that in itself is a beautiful way to defy some stereotypes, which would be invalidated if his sexuality was different. I'm not trying to make a statement here, but this is just the way I feel about the situation.

Making Jaal bi wouldn't ruin his character though. There's such a thing as "bi - female preference" you know.
I mean the dialog was there. The lack of genderlock was there. All indications are that at some point, he was approached as a bisexual character.
So why was it changed? Him being bi would've set ME:A well above the already low bar set by the OT without compromising his character.

I find it far easier to make a good looking Scott than I do Sara. All my Sara's have had hot brothers. Presets 6 and 7 are great ones. 6 in particular seems to get a lot of love over on reddit. It's what I used to make Generic Scott is Generic: imgur.com/a/lGvZeAnd yet somehow a Generic Scott is still a Hot Scott. Honestly, I wind up using uh, Preset 9 I think for Sara? And just lighten the skin as much as I can. But yeah, Sara is hard to do right.

I made a really nice looking Male Ryder, but everytime he tries to express emotion in his face he looks more like clayface from batman then a human-but you know...still sexy part of the time. ...Okay I need to know how you managed this Ryder. I always figured preset 3 was what I was stuck with, but this is REALLY good.

lmao yep blatant lie Not really. Again (and I've said this several times), he doesn't state that he got to the end result, only that you could. And he based that assumption on the fact he'd flirted with Jaal several times. If, as is suspected, there's the bug due to lack of genderlock, then he flirted with Jaal and assumed (logically) that there'd be a scene at the end of all the flirting. I mean c'mon, he went to the devs for an answer and immediately recanted his tweets when he learned it wasn't what he thought it was. Cherry picking his tweets to make him look like a malicious liar doesn't make you look good.

Just going to quote myself here because it's relevant: You know. I'll just say it. If Jaal had been bi? I would've forgiven Bioware entirely. Because at the very least, we would've started from a stronger position than ME3. We would've started this new series of games by breaking the Mass Effect mold in a meaningful way. But we don't even have that. And I'm not going to fault Biofan any for enjoying his love triangle, but even assuming the NPCs are just the most amazing thing short of a squadmate, there will ALWAYS been this underlying bitter feeling that we (that is, gay men) have to go off the beaten path and possibly even way outside of our own orientation to get even a modest portion of the quality everyone else will get to experience. I don't understand being okay with that. I don't understand how, at any meeting or get-together, a development can look at this and go "I guess this is okay."

So. Yeah. I'm in a bit of a ideological bind.
Do I play a female Ryder because it's the only way to experience the content I want, despite the fact it's me playing outside of my box (in fact, crushing and tearing said box to pieces)
Or stick to my guns, play a male Ryder and just deal with...whatever I get.

I need context, why are the gays and gators coming together? Just in the sense that we're both salty in our own way about how the romances turned out. Their reason is based in misogyny and hatred, of course. Debateable. But that's not an argument for this time or even this forum board.

A lot, actually. Intent makes all the difference. Intent matters, but outcome matters more. If harm is done when no harm was intended, harm was still done. Honestly the idea that only the result matters is situational at best, since intent determines context. If I don't mean to harm you, but I'm forced by someone else to cause you harm, then the reason (and intent) matters.

Well, it has been pointed out that it sounds like they lost 13 project leads during the course of making this game. It sounds like it was a giant mess. I need to state again that we don't know 100% what happened here. We just don't. I'd rather believe that yes, they did something this ignorant rather than something this hateful. I haven't seen any real sign of hate towards the LGBT+ community for many years now from BioWare. Utter fucking ignorance of the size of the LGBT+ Mass Effect fanbase? Different story. How much, in the end, does the reason why matter? A lot, actually. Intent makes all the difference.

No he didn't. He believed that since his character continued to flirt with Jaal, that a romance scene (and therefore fucking) was a certainty. After all, Jaal didn't turn down, and continued to be receptive to flirts. So the natural assumption is "If I get to flirt, the scene should result from this." No, he very definitely did say he fucked Jaal. He deleted that tweet after he realised it must have been a hallucination. I know you're being sarcastic but I genuinely think he believed it was possible to reach the romance scene. He was clearly trying to give people some sort of hope. I mean he went and even bugged the devs for an answer, which he wasn't required to do if he didn't want to. And then when he learned he was wrong he recanted. I think his intentions were entirely benign.

I hope they admit to failing the gay male fans eventually at the very least. However, I suspect we will get some very borderline offensive responses first and foremost. Artistic integrity will never be forgotten for example. I don't like the use of the "artistic integrity" thing because honestly I agreed with Bioware on that issue.
