For the first time in ages, I'm actually finding Dorian to be interesting. I've romanced him before but was never that into it. Getting more out of his snark than ever before. Totally tapping that in my current run.

disgustednoise , Since you're back -- and since he doesn't plug himself here very often -- I must take the opportunity to recommend Verfallen 's Inquisitor/Dorian series of fics, for when you feel like some fic-reading. They're pretty great, and there's a lot, so you'll be occupied for a while! I feel like I've read "The Wrong Sort of Whatever" (part of the series) before, but it's not on my AO3 bookmarks list. If it's the story I'm thinking of, I agree that it's quite good and I second the recommendation. Edit: Reread some and it's definitely the story I'm thinking of. I guess I read it before I got an AO3 account. Time to read the rest of the series

Song was... not my thing. The little DA and Dorian-related touches were fun, like the Maker sign (over the lyric mentioning God), the amulet, and the skull. Pretty good cosplay. Dorian doesn't seem too commonly done, just going by some con pics I've seen.
Heh that person's particular appearance struck me as more Doc Holliday than Dorian Pavus. XD

I haven't played DAI in a while and got a fresh perspective. I find him to be witty and charming. I can easily imagine women falling for him as well. In today's world he might be metrosexual but go back a few centuries and he's a normal aristocrat. Also, despite his sarcasm, there's this underlying sense that he's someone who gives a damn, at least as much as Cassandra.

I haven't been able to finish my Dorian romance. I can't tell if it's because I've played the game 4 times before or because I feel like the romance scenes with him were a bit rushed and short.

I only have the Cullen romance to compare, but they seemed the same to me, content-wise. Also keep in mind that there is a lot of variation so you can craft it to your roleplay/headcanon, which seems rather unique to him (over other followers).

I only have the Cullen romance to compare, but they seemed the same to me, content-wise. Also keep in mind that there is a lot of variation so you can craft it to your roleplay/headcanon, which seems rather unique to him (over other followers). Well ultimately you can marry Cullen in a proper ceremony, so there is less from that point of view. Also if you ask to slow things down you miss out on a whole scene with him, which means you are effectively penalised for role playing your character that way. He comes across as a lot less vulnerable on that path as well because you don't have the heart to heart that you do on the lets have sex straight away path. However, I was more disappointed about the lack of content on the friendship path. It is the same with Bull. Once you have exhausted all the initial investigative dialogue, between major missions you are restricted to a hi and goodbye every time you go and see them. Whereas with Cassandra or Sera you get to continue to talk with them as a friend, even if it is a "what do you think of ....." It was particularly noticeable with Dorian because my girl had specifically said she still wanted to be friends after discovering he was gay but she could just as easily have given him the cold shoulder since the conversation options were no different. By contrast if you are in a romance you get two different options if you just drop in to see him, either being able to kiss in private or spend time together doing things that I would have thought you could equally do as friends, such as reviewing the troops, etc. So as far as that is concerned, you probably get more content in a romance with Dorian than with some other people.

Well ultimately you can marry Cullen in a proper ceremony, so there is less from that point of view. I disagree. There is a difference between amount of content and what that content contains. A cup of green beans and a cup of Cheetos is the same amount, but people will prefer one over the other. I don't care at all that there is no marriage for Dorian, in fact prefer it; I don't want that forced on my character in a rushed DLC decision and would rather headcanon something so meaningful so it's personal to my character. Also if you ask to slow things down you miss out on a whole scene with him, which means you are effectively penalised for role playing your character that way. Again, here I disagree. These are alternate scenes, each with their own merits and they replace each other. The fact that you want to wait at all is completely shocking to him and beyond his experience. That is meaningful for Dorian; it's not just about your roleplay. In addition, while I don't take this path, it has one of my favorite dialogue options in the whole romance, the Inquisitor choosing to say, "I'm not asking you to change"; considering everything he went through, I think that is also meaningful. Again, this is about personal preference. The fact that Dorian's romance does have so many alternate paths is exactly what gives it more content, not less. The player, on a meta level, has more variations to watch, and on a roleplay level there is more freedom to choose a path that is more fitting for your roleplay and headcanon.

So, Dorian's home city (Qarinus) is now named Ventus.

Homestuck fandom if I'm correct. Dorian's modeled in the same fashion as one of the western zodiac trolls.

So, Dorian's home city (Qarinus) is now named Ventus. Already got myself into hot water for complaining about this. Still if they felt the name change as necessary do you feel they could have come up with something a bit more inspired and grandiose than Ventus? Knowing that it means "wind" in Latin really doesn't help although I'm assuming that the explanation may have something to do with a fair wind helping the victory. Alternatively a general with the family name of Ventus? Still I would have thought that would ruffle the feathers of every other Altus associated with Qarinus if it was named after a contemporary of theirs.

I'd just really like to know who are these "everyone" who got them mixed up? Is this what Twitter is good for these days? I don't recall ever seeing confusion between the two on BSN. Or maybe he really means "everyone at Bioware"?

It's nice to get some new Dorian content. Altough Dorian and the relationship with his dad, just doesn't resonate with me as much as Morrigan and Flemeth. I might still be tempted to give away a kidney for a Gaider book about Dorian in Tevinter though. I'm really curious to see Dorian navigate those muddy waters.

I might still be tempted to give away a kidney for a Gaider book about Dorian in Tevinter though. I'm really curious to see Dorian navigate those muddy waters. Do you mean in an emotion sense, or...? The main difference is that there is nothing mysterious about the relationship between Dorian and his father; it's real, raw, human.
I'd prefer a Dorian book about the past though, perhaps around the time of his apprenticeship with Alexius when things really turned to shit.

I just find the relationship between Flemeth and Morrigan way more tragic, and it appeals and resonates with me more. That's all.
