Found this on pinterest and it broke my heart, but it's also so cute: Christ. That's so wonderfully awfully heartwarmingly painfully sad.

Play as female.
Pfft, as if that prevents my Femquisitors from hitting every flirt option anyway.
Even if it goes nowhere, I love the playful flirting and hilarious banter between the two. I know there's probably no difference between the dialogue, but I find the female flirting with Dorian to be really cute and fun. I find it rather hard to resist. I decided to have one poor simpleton who didn't realise he was gay, and clicked the 'but don't you LOVE me??' option. That was awkward as hell.

I was watching some videos of the new expansion of WOW and...there is an npc with Dorian voice actor...he's like some kind of mage that helps you against his corrupted cult. it felt somewhat familiar.

I'm playing Diablo 3 at the moment and one of the followers available (Lyndon, the scoundrel aka thief) sounds just like Dorian. VA is Troy Baker (I've heard the name but have no idea who he is) but I still feel like Dorian is following me around everywhere.

He's got the "scoundrel" snark, of course, but the pitch is different, tighter, less smooth.
At any rate, Troy Baker does a lot of VO work. He also played Booker in Bioshock Infinite, if you've played that. Although there he had his gruff manly voice going on, not a wiseass thief.

Ooh cool. I'm not playing WoW this expansion, so I'll miss it. Is it just a one-shot quest, or what? They don't tend to have a lot of VO work if an NPC isn't significant in some way.

I checked the Wiki and he is given a credit for World of Warcraft: Battle for Azoroth, so I assume this is what Reznore is referring to.
Ramon Tikaram has only appeared in a few films but he has featured a lot in TV dramas in the UK. Most of the time he is using his normal voice so it is immediately apparent he is Dorian's VA. However, on one episode of New Tricks he was meant to be from a rougher background and so sounded different.
What I find so interesting is that Dragon Age Inquisition always features high on his list of credits, even above roles for which he is better known on TV, so I have always assumed he makes a point of mentioning it because he both enjoyed playing Dorian and is proud of his portrayal of the character.

I checked the Wiki and he is given a credit for World of Warcraft: Battle for Azoroth, so I assume this is what Reznore is referring to. Yes... I know that. As I said, they don't do voice work for every NPC and every quest, like we have in DA. That's only reserved for NPCs and/or stories that are somewhat significant. So I was wondering about the significance of the NPC. What I find so interesting is that Dragon Age Inquisition always features high on his list of credits, even above roles for which he is better known on TV, so I have always assumed he makes a point of mentioning it because he both enjoyed playing Dorian and is proud of his portrayal of the character. There's also the fact that he did a lot of work for Dorian, many, many hours of recording, with a lot of different scenes and emotional range, so it's a good way to see his breadth of acting in a single character. Reznore Thanks! his voice. It's fun to hear him in another game.

Since I'm a bit more comfortable with promoting my writing now, I may as well do so here... I've got some fanfics up. They're warrior Trevelyan/Dorian, which I know is a rather niche pairing, compared to some. It's an ongoing series showing moments in the relationship that you can consider "off camera" from game events. There is some sex, yes, but they're not all nsfw -- AO3 has ratings and tags, so you can avoid that if you wish. For those interested: archiveofourown.org/series/974214

Apologies if this has been discussed before, but going over some of Dorian's initial concept art made me wonder;
1) Since so many early pics have with a sword, do you think Dorian was originally the Knight Enchanter/Arcane Warrior/Battle Mage?
2) Do you think it would have suited his character?
3) Do you think the change had less to do with Dorian, and more that a Necromancer Vivienne would never have gotten as far as she did?

I think that was likely just some art thrown out when he was still the Tony Stark archetype and that's all there was. The artists often do this; Vivienne was originally a white, blond snow queen type of character. They start out with a very basic template and then build from there. Once there is a bit more of a base, then characters are assigned and the real work begins. I wouldn't read much at all into the early concept art. I mean, one piece has him pictured with a monkey and a spear.

Back in the good old days of DAO and DA2 he could have been an Necromancer and a Knight Enchanter if they had had those classes then. 2) I'm not sure about this one. The Knight Enchanter is very much a one for getting in the forefront of battle and going toe to toe with the enemy but I can see him getting stuck in that way largely because most mages in Tevinter probably like to keep off the frontline and Dorian does like to be different. However, I can see why they thought giving him Necromancy might suit his character. From what he says, using spirits is very much normal practice in Tevinter but Necromancy is probably not quite so common as a specialism and so may have appealed to his desire to rebel against what is seen as the norm for the "perfect" mage. 3) I think there is a lot to be said for the fact that it would have been hard to justify Vivienne having taken that specialisation given her background. She doesn't really like messing around with spirits and whilst Necromancy is not outlawed in the south, it probably isn't the sort of specialism to take if you are looking to advance in the Circle or among the Chantry elite. She says that Knight Enchanters were used to guard the Divine, so I can see her taking it specifically to get close to the seat of power. Then she was offered Court Enchanter instead which from her point of view was even better.

Since I've just posted a new short fic to it, this might be a good time to mention that I write an ongoing series featuring Dorian and (former) Inquisitor Kai Trevelyan on AO3. If you feel like checking any or all of it out, it's called The Contours of Shadows. The stories range from shorts to long novels, and can be read as stand-alones. Needless to say, feedback is welcome.

Obviously Dorian Hard Locks when you agree to a relationship in the sex/no sex scene but where is the soft lock? Is it when you kiss him for the first time, either during the talk with Giselle or the sad convo after the meeting with his dad?

phoray Because there are two versions of the first kiss, the answer will depend on which path you take. After the Halward scene, if you take the during that conversation, the Inquisitor initiates a kiss. That is the soft lock for that path; nothing else is required. If you take another option, do the after the Giselle scene, Dorian will give a surprise kiss. BUT, after that, you must return, talk to him again, and click through the romance confirmation dialogue. That is the soft lock for that path.

Awhile back when some people were arguing how Dorian's Personal Quest makes no sense since homophobia doesn't exist in Thedas, it got me thinking. Now, I agree much of The Last Resort of Good Men can come off like a bad Afterschool Special at times; myself, I would have preferred something that confronted Dorian on whether Tevinter can, or even should be saved, and how far he's willing to go achieve it. As for which real world prejudices "make sense" in Dragon Age, that's another topic entirely. But I do think some such prejudices are a logical outcome of Tevinter's culture, though maybe not in the way some might think. Despite being on top in the Imperium, I can see most mages there being paranoid. In the minds of most Tevinter Magi, both the South and the Qunari want to enslave and/or exterminate them, most other mages would sell them out in order to advance their own position, and magical ability still remains a rare genetic recessive. Thus, if mages are going to survive in the long run, they need more numbers. Even elevating commoner, slave and foreign mages wouldn't be enough, since you couldn't guarantee their loyalty. For these people it isn't about any twisted morality, but base survival. So if mages are to survive as a subspecies, they need more mage babies . Obviously, there are more than a few flaws with this philosophy, like how keeping mage bloodlines in such a narrow gene pool can lead to inbreeding and such. The fact that they concentrate on eugenics, elitist and nationalist politics cuts off many potentially valuable recruits. But it wouldn't be the first time people shoot themselves in the foot rather than admit that they're wrong. So while fear is certainly no better than hate in the end, I think Tevinter's obsession with breeding can share archetypes with mage issues, and not just homophobia*. *More than once I've seen people say they think Bioware made Tevinter homophobic as a reaction to all the hardcore mage fans that refuse to find fault with anything any mage does. How well they succeeded, or if they missed the point entirely, is up to the individual.
