I kinda suspect that the father will be missing and searching for him might be part of the initial impetus of the plot.
Here's more or less what I'm hoping for: we'll have time with the dad both on-duty and off-duty so we'll have time to from an impresson and relationship with.
The dad will disappear for a time and make the occasional reappearance or silent cameo possibly alongside a krogan. Maybe he'll help us out, maybe he'll sabotage us, hopefully both to show that he cares about us but can't let us get too close to him or what he's on about .
It'll turn out the dad went rogue and he's become an antagonist (but not a villain). I'm hoping his motivation will be necessity and not villainy or some anti-alien or pro-human agenda.
Whether the dad lives or dies will depend on us either directly or indirectly through our choices.

And I'm calling him "dad pants" from now on lol. Just like I'm referring the asari as Ascoon excellent I'm curious what the father will call his children if the player can name the character? Most likely will be similiar to what Leandra calls her child. Just says son/daughter.

Maybe. I'm curious about how they'll hand family faces. For the sibling, I could seem them borrowing from Fallout 4, character creator. For the father, I doubt we'd be able to directly make his face. So that leaves either the game creating a face based on the siblings or he'll be wearing a faceless helmet every time we see him. The latter could somewhat preclude a getting to know him section early on.

While it's certainly plausiable, I don't see why they wouldn't get as much attention from devs as other optional squadmates. Especially with such development. For the ever-present issue of budget constraint and resources optimization. I don't think they are going to include a major element in the game that you could totally miss according to your choices, therefore I find it difficult thay could be two full stand alone separate NPCs. I expect them to be either temphorary companions, like Bethany and Carver or, if they aren't, I expect them to "share" many things, like Ashley and Kaidan in ME3, which I have never considered 2 actual characters but "a character and half", since they had the same storyline

Maybe the children aren't really his kids and just married their mother and adopted them later on. The mother dies of whatever. To put the loss behind them, they volunteer to go to Andromeda

I'm not even sure they'll get that much: I think it's likely we might get vague mentions about them like where they are at and what they are doing. I speculate that of the family, they'll be focusing on Ryder and Ryder's father.

Unsure how I feel about the family dynamic. It depends how large of a role it plays I suppose. I didn't care for it all that much in DA2 and it was partly because it kept reinforcing the idea I was playing as BioWare's character, not creating my own character. So I could never connect to Hawke in the ways I've been able to connect to the Warden, Inquistor, and even Shepard. Still, it could be interesting if done right. Certainly better than FO4 forcing me to be married with a kid.

That is more or less the Ogre Battle 64 treatment... that game had a son who hated his father because he killed a nobleman who attempted to assassinate a prince under his protection, but took the blame because he knew who the assassin was- the prince's father, and it was his duty to keep the status quo. It leads to a confrontation where you can talk to your father about this, and where you either recruit him to your cause (a revolution in the kingdom you control) or kill him, depending on your choices. It was fantastic because the father/son dynamic never fully resolves...you either regret killing your father, relish in it, or come to a mutual respect with each other by fighting together. I can see something like that happening here, you disobey an order from your father, it causes the player to go rogue, and part of the game is deciding how to reconcile, if you can reconcile, with your father in some way. Or, vice versa, and your dad disobeys and betrays you. Would make for a really interesting dynamic.

I like the idea of the siblings exactly because of that. I always feel Shepard's background was too out in the open(too hollow) even after 3 games.

At best, I can see them giving Ryder a call once in a while but mostly, I can only see them getting mentioned by other characters. Basically, they'll exist but they won't be a character.
It's why I'd have preferred that they simply made Ryder an only child because I don't think they intend to do anything with the sibling character that'll make their existence worthwhile. This might also sound a bit harsher than I intend for it to but I don't have all the confidence that they can write a family dynamic that goes beyond two people well when it concerns the player character. I admit that may be that I felt the Spacer background (and for that matter, the other backgrounds) got a disappointing treatment.
Now I'm not saying that it is not a possibility that they might decide to go in the direction of Dragon Age II, it's just that personally, I don't expect them to even if I genuinely want them to.

I like the idea of the siblings exactly because of that. I always feel Shepard's background was too out in the open(too hollow) even after 3 games. I agree. There was a past there, but it was barely connected to anything, which made it difficult to feel like it had a real impact on Shep's life and personality throughout the games. I know a lot of people feel really confined by characters with existing ties and backgrounds, but I really enjoy that when creating a character for a story-based game. I like that Ryder will have a family. It gives me something to bounce off and forces me to think about how they feel about those pre-existing relationships and what impact they've had on the character. Basically; something something about constraints forcing you to be more creative.

I'd be honest: sibling in multiplayer is something although I think I'd like for the sibling to be something unrelated to the profession of their sibling or father like, say, a bartender. There's a high chance that there's going to be a bar so stick the sibling in it as a bartender. If they have mini-games then let us play cards or something with them.

And I'm calling him "dad pants" from now on lol. Just like I'm referring the asari as Ascoon excellent I'm curious what the father will call his children if the player can name the character? Most likely will be similiar to what Leandra calls her child. Just says son/daughter. I'll bet you a gallon of ryncol that the female PC would be called "kiddo". Mark my words.
