To continue my thoughts on if Ryder is subordinate to him then I can see him calling them by their rank or surname when on-duty and while off-duty, he might refer to Ryder by a term of endearment or nickname. If he goes rogue, he refers to them by their rank or surname, If there are any heartfelt moments, he refers to them by the same as when he was off-duty. I'm sure if they're in the military, the father will address his kids by their rank just as they would address him as Sir, just as their father would address them by their rank, if the children are in the military. I was more curious what he would call them behind closed doors away from everyone else
Kid or you are two of my guesses.
Like I've mentioned, he might call them by a term of endearment when off-duty. It might even be different depending on your gender: he might call you honey if you are female and son if you are male. Daughter didn't seem odd in Dragon Age II because of the setting but I think it sounds a bit odd in Mass Effect 3.
I think I'd prefer an affectionate nickname that is unique to them and used regardless of the player's gender like, I don't know, starfish. Could be from some family story that he won't let you forget and won't hesitate to tell your love interest about.
You know, I think that could actually be a neat scene if the player is allowed to choose some dialogue options to indicate how their past self behaved or how they felt about whatever happened. I think that would actually be a good way of doing family scenes.

I'll bet you a gallon of ryncol that the female PC would be called "kiddo". Mark my words. I'll bet you a remake of the ME trilogy the father won't say that. Oh ho ho, I'm tempted!

I like the idea of the siblings exactly because of that. I always feel Shepard's background was too out in the open(too hollow) even after 3 games. I agree. There was a past there, but it was barely connected to anything, which made it difficult to feel like it had a real impact on Shep's life and personality throughout the games. I know a lot of people feel really confined by characters with existing ties and backgrounds, but I really enjoy that when creating a character for a story-based game. I like that Ryder will have a family. It gives me something to bounce off and forces me to think about how they feel about those pre-existing relationships and what impact they've had on the character. Basically; something something about constraints forcing you to be more creative.Yeah. Just look at Geralt (Witcher series), the past made the character really rich but it does not limit your actions in the game (if that were true everyone would finish the trilogy with Yennefer )

Maybe the children aren't really his kids and just married their mother and adopted them later on. The mother dies of whatever. To put the loss behind them, they volunteer to go to Andromeda Lol, Mike. Your comment strikes me as fun and pithy, given all the other speculation about the Ryder's family dynamics, and it's effect on events in the plot. Family relationships can get pretty odd sometimes - and even more so on long trips together! We mustn't forget to laugh along the way.

I'm not sure they'll do it well, but I don't think they would have the sibling exist at all if they didn't plan to do something with them. Granted, that something could be killing them in the prologue. I'm betting a squadmate status of some kind at the least. I don't care if that sibling represents squadmates for multiplayer...ill take it. I'm kinda betting they'll be a scientist, or maybe military but involved in other operations. Or, maybe they pilot the ship.

Note: the player character seems to be referred to as Pathfinder in the 4K Tech live footage.

On topic on the sibling, I think it's too early to say what role they'll have. Howewer, regardless it big or small, or if it'll be well executed or not, I'm pretty sure they'll appear in-game. They would've just said you have a brother/sister based on your gender, not that the default PC's you don't pick is your sibling (meaning that the appearance of the sibling is one of the default). They wouldn't do that for just a role that requires a few calls in the game.

Meh. I'd rather be referred to as "Finder." It sounds more like a code name the Railroad would assign to you while you're smuggling Synths outta the Commonwealth. And, I recently lost my friggen car keys, so, maybe if I was "Finder," I might have better luck, ya know, finding them.

Ok, with this development, Bioware really needs to put a CC up on the site to let us mess around with character creation. Bonus points if it produces face codes we can just copy/paste into the in-game CC later. Save me time getting into the game when it launches, while also letting me sate my hype appetite in the meantime. I'd want the CC to be the same as the one in-game of course, so I doubt it could come out till roughly a month or two before the game does. But that'd be fine.
I think I'd prefer an affectionate nickname that is unique to them and used regardless of the player's gender like, I don't know, starfish. Could be from some family story that he won't let you forget and won't hesitate to tell your love interest about.

Oh, I definitely want this, now. lol Potentially embarrassing family nicknames FTW. I mean, yeah, they're possibly embarrassing (for your character), but its extremely realistic. Adds a layer of depth to the characters and family dynamic if they have a shared history, such as: Sibling to Love Interest-"And from that day on, Dad has called her 'Noodle'. He's never let her live it down." Its like Bryce Cousland calling you "Pup". If they can hit that same kind of vibe with it, it will be very endearing.

Let's see: A brother and sister follow their dad across the galaxy (or universe) to find a new home for a large group of people, and escaping a calamity occurring on their homeworld (being devoured by AI machines). I've heard of this before... let me think... OH YES! Now I remember! Commander Adama, his son Captain Apollo, and his daughter Lieutenant Athena.
We know the ME:A story is different, and I'm looking forward to it.

A theory is that the voice belongs to the omni-tool and if so then I think it is a VI (Virtual intelligence). Since we know VIs can get out of hand...

PLOT TWIST! Your dad's the antagonist. PLOT TWIST! Your sibling dies at some stage, for maximum poignancy. PLOT TWIST! After you defeat your Bad Dad it turns out your mother never actually died and has been pulling the strings from the shadows all along. PLOT TWIST! After battling her through the second game you redeem her and she helps you in the third game. PLOT TWIST! You're all actually ghosts. Bioware hire me pls. PLOT TWIST! That plus the space magic from the crucible. It followed us and gave us time magic in Mass Effect.

I been thinking that your sibling might be able to have a bigger companion role than Bethany/Carver because they have two actors (male and female) recording protagonist Ryder lines and sibling Ryder lines. So whichever you pick both are used in the game. Where in the other games, the protagonist/Hawke sibling you don't pick voice actors' dialogue are just not use. Am I being clear? I mean either way both voice actors are in the game, so they are paying two actors for two characters. I think that would be more cost effective.

He makes a point of saying our sibling is "out there somewhere", so I really doubt they die. At least, at the start. An easy plot would be: Dad woke up first, Dad went missing, siblings wake up, non-PC sibling goes off to track Dad via their own methods/following one lead while PC sibling looks for him via vault hunting/following a different lead. And they occasionally check in with one another. No one has to be dead.
Now, if Dad is an antagonist in the end, I could totally see them having the sibling side with him. Or they could make it more complicated. Perhaps, the sibling will just end up opposite of you regardless. Like, If you take the more aggressive approaches, which would likely be more like Dad's methods or something, maybe the sibling will prefer the more diplomatic ones, so you'll be opposed in the end, but *you* are the one siding with Dad (who would, by your choice, not technically be an antagonist for you)? And then reverse all that if you take the more diplomatic routes.

If the NPC-sibling is going to be off doing their own thing, I wonder if they'll have their own ship and squad.
