There are multiple threads discussing the Kotaku speculations about Mass Effect going on hiatus.
Many of the threads are treading the same ground, so this is a consolidation thread for that topic and reactions to that topic.

Well, if true that is disappointing. Not unexpected from EA I suppose, but still disappointing. I'd rather they learn their lessons and move forward, but I guess that is too expensive for EA.

This could probably mean a couple of patches and no DLCs at all. Well I hope people are now happy. Thinking that bitching is going to give you a better product...flash news...It won't. After Deus Ex this is the second franchise I love that is put on halt...while crap like Battlefield, Battlefront and CoD are released every freaking year....damn if it goes like this I won't have anything to play with.

Ok....this article is crap. First of all they call MEA a 'reboot' it is not a reboot in any way shape or form. At best its a 'soft reboot', but even then it throws out none of previously established canon so it does not count really as that. Second of all, it says quite dramatically 'sources say ME has been put on ice', and Montreal has been downsized, but then the only sources it quotes say that they are happy with Andromeda and just moving around people to deal with other EA projects...which makes sense.
Honestly, what the actual hell Kotaku?

Nah, EA has been trying to move BW away from RPG games into more streamlined action games they can easily tack MP and micro-transactions onto. A lukewarm reception to MEA just gave them an excuse to speed that up, nothing more.

Hmmm. There was news some time back that EA was putting significant money on their Montréal studios, most assumed it included BioWare, so I wonder if there's been a change of plans or either this or that are wrong.
Mass Effect on hiatus is disappointing, but I wonder if it's really a hiatus or just that they'll be focusing on Secret IP and DA while only a small core ME team figures out what's next for them, ie. if they are going to fo what the DA team has been doing until very recently. It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind. I suggested this after ME3 already. Let it sit for a while, let it rest. THen come back with something new and fresh. Not sure if it makes so much sense to do it now but I don't mind.
Also, letting Montreal go back to the support role that they came from is probably a good idea. I haven't seen anything come out of that BW studio that could really hold a candle to what the Edmonton guys used to do.
So if this turns out to be true, I'm ok with it.
Obviously, if they do downsize and as a result people are being let go, I do hope they'll have no trouble finding jobs elsewhere quickly. I am not saying I want people fired, I am just saying that this team as it was put together for this project, while making a fun game, didn't quite hold up to the standard that I would like to see for future ME games.

I don't think that's necessarily unexpected. A third party is working on the patches and they really only have to work on potential DLC so its not like ME:A 2 was on the horizon with "Dylan", DA 4, SWTOR, and whatever Star Wars game they are developing coming up next. Even if it was a flawless out of the gate, you probably wouldn't see a follow up for 3-4 years. Look at Dragon Age Inquisition, supposedly the best launch in BioWare history over 2 1/2 years ago and we haven't heard anything on its follow up yet. With all the projects that BioWare is juggling, you are probably looking at longer development cycles than before.

Honestly, what the actual hell Kotaku? Obviously EA won't tell that they are disappointed with the game. However why you would move around people to other studios if you were expected to produce a couple of SP DLCs as per BW tradition before moving on. Plus the game is already on 30% sale?? It's clear as sun that EA is disappointed.

It's not officially confirmed,, but it's no secret either.

Square Enix sabotaged Deus Ex Mankind Divided with management missteps, too. Cut the second half of the game to make a microtransaction-driven second game mode, most notably. Put a cash shop in the single player campaign. Pulled a bait-and-switch on the preorder bonuses. It added up to a lot of bad press as the game was being released, which should sound familiar to anyone here. Then of course the answer isn't to get competent management, it's to kill the IP.

Good to hear. They really need to rethink this series, if after 5 years, Andromeda was the best they could give us. I love Mass Effect, but Bioware are scrubs now, and if the franchise is ever revived, hopefully it'll be by a developer that's actually talented, and has a passion for game development.
On a side note, if Bioware's new IP isn't a hit, the company is probably fucked.

I actually think they killed the Deus Ex franchise since they got that fat Disney contract for Marvel games. That same team is working now on an Avengers game. Corporations are filthy!

As opposed of whining like a child putting 1 or 2 on metacritic and just shouting "The game sucks" without providing decent, polite and insightful feedback for them to improve on. Well enjoy not having a new game anytime soon.

No, I know its being developed...I follow the DA peeps like Darrah, Eppler, Weakes, etc but EA's recent investor meeting showed nothing coming for next year DA related so it looks like the hype is being reserved for "Dylan" and whatever Star Wars game they are working on. I know that Cora's voice actress recently tweeted she was in studio so something is coming. Question is just how much?
