Mass Effect hiatus speculation and reactions (consolidated thread)

From the limited information we know, it doesn't sound too promising.

And sadly if it is a hit that will be the end of RPG's from Bioware as they will go full action shooter with the new IP.

Oh well, we all knew this was coming eventually once EA bought BW.  Actually took a lot longer than I expected it to.

But this is what always happens.  If people were paying attention the staff at BioWare Edmenton downsized and moved on to other products after DA I was released, and they needed help from other studios, namely Austin.  They started working on MEA, the new IP, hell probably even TOR.  But yet Dragon Age Inquisition still was able to produce three highly successful, high quality DLCs.  

This article is nothing but clickbait fake news nonsense and honestly I am quite pissed that Kotaku would even have the balls to lie like this.  Fine if you can read the tea leaves and chicken entrails and 'read between the lines', good for you.  But until there is an actual report and announcement to the effect of 'we are not actually going to continue working on the game' not this reaching for straws and trying to drive clicks to your site so you can generate money, I am not going to assume anything.  

Until then: Frickin Shame on Kotaku for writing this hit piece and shame on the people for actually posting the nonsense to the forum and taking it seriously, and shame on me for actually clicking on it and give Kotaku what they were actually looking for.  

Or even DLC for this one, which I would be perfectly OK with. If any voice actors are still doing things for MEA, then some branch of Bio is probably doing something with it.

Pretty much my mood right now:

A downsized Montréal could do it with no problem, that's what they used to do when they were a support studio.

I'm saying that EA won't give a damn when the game get bad press because of trolls, they cut the problem down. They don't think like we gamers do, the game isn't performing as expected? They cut it down.

Well that sucks.... actually this freaking sucks, deus ex and now this, leave it for long enough they are gonna reboot due to the time apart, and instead of expanding on andromeda, good ol' EA is gonna make shepard 2.0 and bank the game nostalgia goggles, great... The game wasn't perfect but it doesn't deserve ones and zeroes, EA took a look at those video's of 3 million views making fun of it and yep... no mass effect now. Not even DLC I bet, they could have made a trespasser...pfft.

Yes and no.  It really was a mess of a game, relative to it's budget and development time.  Unfortunately, internet denizens seem to be unable to keep themselves to any level of reasonableness or even basic sanity when noting this. It's the basic internet conundrum:  It allows unprecedented ability to communicate, but also completely removes the slightest need to be civil.  If I took exception to a post here and decided to respond with an all cap diatribe chock full of insults, what would stop me? 

I understand critiquing a game, that's completely reasonable.  But, it's when people treat an under-powered character creator or creepy eyes or "deadnaming" (a completely fictional character comprised entirely of 1's and 0's) or an admittedly underwhelming ending as the moral equivalent of making cancer airborne and contagious, that's when studios get gun shy.  If every tiny mis-step is greeted with shrieks of rage, all we're going to get is the gaming equivalent of a boiled potato sandwich with mayo on white bread. IOW, we'll get the games we deserve. If Nier Automata or Horizon: Zero Dawn had been anything less than awesome, the outrage would have killed them in their cradles.  Thank God they were great games.  We might even see more of them.

They might consider a remaster of the trilogy now.
