So what that ME1 mako had a cannon? Didn't they say no cannon about 2 years ago? Either way, I don't see the vehicle having a large cannon because it looks like it couldn't support the weight If the old Mako could support the weight why couldn't the new one? As I recall, the Mako manipulated its weight through the use of a localized Mass Effect Field. That's how it could climb almost vertically up the side of a mountain. Plus, how much it can support presumably depends on the strength of the material used which could just as easily be some futuristic material that we don't have today that would have no problem with any amount of weight! I'm not sure why you are arguing so hard for a position we know is not the case. Sure you could argue that small arms is better than no arms but I could make the same case against small arms: "You go ahead and have your small arms. That won't help for long. Anything that can penetrate the shields of a Mako is clearly too powerful for small arms to do anything but annoy. You need heavy weapons..." "You go ahead and have your heavy weapons. That won't help for long. They'll just call down an airstrike and you'll still be toast. If you really want to deter attack you need to have nuclear missiles..." "You go ahead and have your nuclear missiles. They wouldn't hurt Reapers. You need to have a reaper killer..." Everything's relative. The military mindset is "The best defense is a good offense". The settler's mindset is "The best defense is to look as non-threatening as possible so we don't get caught up in a combat situation we neither want nor can win". Evidence suggests they went with the latter which is fine by me. Hooten and the Lady is a TV show that recently started on Sky 1 in the UK. Think Tomb Raider or Raiders of the Lost Ark but with more comedy. They were exploring up the Amazon and got captured by natives. Anyway, I still don't see how knowing the dangers relates to my point which was that civilians have extremely limited access to military hardware and may well not have the ability to acquire such things however valuable they might be at combating those dangers. I'm only hypothesizing possible scenarios. Someone at Blizzard has apparently used the terminology that they were fleeing from the Milky Way. It's possible that they saw through the cover-up with respect to Sovereign and the battle for the Citadel and this is what prompted their need to depart before the Reapers got there. I'm not saying it's indestructible, just that it's tough. I don't remember the Journal entries on it but I always figured it could eat up the terrain pretty fast. Which would make sense given that it could make itself as light as a feather by manipulating it's ME field. It's ability to navigate tough terrain was also pretty unparalleled. Small arms fire could destroy it eventually but I don't remember thinking of small arms as much of a threat. Against a high tech military force I'm sure it would be vulnerable but against the usual threats of local flora and fauna on an unpopulated world being explored for possible colonization or resource purposes it would probably be more than adequate. My guess is they wouldn't even be using the Mako on a world with an indigenous population likely to be shooting at them. At the end of the day there's a lot of gaps in our knowledge of the scenario. Maybe there's a heavily armed aircraft that always flies with the Mako on dangerous missions. Who knows! I just think it's a bit early to criticize Bioware's decisions on arming the Mako when we don't have all the facts.

If the old Mako could support the weight why couldn't the new one? Since the mako in the trailer is able to move at a very high rate of speed, the material used to build would be much lighter than what was used for Mako ME1. I don't see mako MEA doing that While that's true, the mako ME1, looks larger and was built to have a large cannon. Mako MEA appears smaller and doesn't have the space to house a large cannon. It needs space to store the rounds. A turret to rotate the cannon 360° And who's to say your non-threatening as possible isn't threatening to whoever we encounter? Just seeing the mako would/could be enough for them to fire at you. Don't know why you mention civilians. Looks like Ryder is part of the military. Dad is an N7, so it would be safe to say the military played a large role in the building of the ships and would prepare for the worst Its not a threat until you're getting shot at by small arms fire.

So far everything we know(which is almost nothing by the way) seems to imply we aren't going as a military expedition. There is a rumour going around that the Tempest: is not an Alliance vessel.

From some Dev? Because if not i believe it's more wise to disregard those kind of rumors to avoid false expectations. Anyway, i still believe the Tempest is from the Alliance since it shows the same color pattern than the Normandy SR1.

Implied by Shinobi, so who knows... Shinobi is just a troll who is pretty good at saying vague things that sometimes turn out to be true. But a lot of people forgets he guesses a lot of things wrong too. =============================================================================================================== I hope Bioware won't re-use Cerberus as a big plot in the game.

Don't know why you mention civilians. Looks like Ryder is part of the military. Dad is an N7, so it would be safe to say the military played a large role in the building of the ships and would prepare for the worst But that's been the whole basis of my argument! I don't believe there was military involvement in forming this expedition and I don't see any reason why that conclusion would be "safe to say". To me it makes no sense for it to be military. For one thing, we've heard the term 'fleeing' used. I don't think the official military of any world would be organizing a colonization mission on the basis that they are running away from a threat. They would be dedicating all their resources to combatting the threat not running from it. Also. from the E3 thread we know: "Apparently the colonists had a choice to go to Andromeda, since they all have different motivations (adventure, curiosity, running from something or they just want a fresh start)" "Ryders and his/her crew are much 'greener' than Shepard and company (but they do know how to handle a gun already)" "The hero must find a new home for humanity and the other races that came along, and he/she is very versatile because this job requires many qualities" None of that screams military to me. If this was a military mission they wouldn't put anyone who can be described as 'green' in charge of it! I'm also pretty sure we've heard that the N7 (who may or may not be Ryder's father) was an ex-N7 so that doesn't signify military involvement either. Even if many have a military background I would be amazed if any of this mission had official military backing or involvement. This was the whole thrust of my argument. It's not an armed vehicle because it's not a military vehicle. It's not a military vehicle because the military have nothing to do with this mission. If I'm wrong, fair enough, but we certainly haven't had confirmation either way so, at this point, it's as good a working theory as any other!
