To clear this up Mass Effect development is on Hiatus. as any game would be after development. when a game studio says that they mean that no new game under that property is currently under development. However, fixes, Patches, and DLC are part of what’s called extended support or after release support. I can see why Bioware is not ready to start on a ME:A 2 yet they have to fix this game. Plus this “Dylan” game they are pinning everything on and Dragon Age 4 is in a pre-production phase and Austin is always working on SWTOR content. So right now they don’t have the time or a studio to head up a new ME title. BioWare Montreal failed as a dev studio as a support studio will still be working on Andromeda but not at a fast clip

Between the fact that the end of the fiscal quarter hit projected targets, and MEA was the only big title released in the last quarter, I believe Kotaku jumped the proverbial gun. Throw in your logic and I'm not seeing "hiatus", I'm seeing winding down from a long term development cycle.

I agree. I would point out that no one at EA or Bioware actually used the term "hiatus" or anything similar. That came from unverified sources in a Kotaku article which had been edited several times now due to its inaccuracies at posting.
EA also did not say that they are not working on MEA:2 in their earnings report. Just alluded to that they are not going into full-scale production at the moment, instead using Bioware Montreal employees to shore up their current development on soon-to-be-released games. Expecting a new ME before 2020 was always crazy, and so in this they can help finish projects due by 2019. There could be writers and concept artists working on MEA:2 currently, as those people would not be necessary to work on games like Battlefront 2 and the far-along-in-development "Dylan". I think once they get a handle on "Dylan" and then announce development of the new Dragon Age title in the next year or so, by 2019 we will hear that MEA:2 is in development with a 2021 release window.

"Mass Effect Andromeda exceeded our every expectation and we are very much looking forward to the next chapter for the Ryder siblings, Drack, PeeBee and the rest of the Andromeda gang! Stay tuned!"
Is what you wanna hear as a fan or someone who worked on the team. "Hiatus" is not a word that is encouraging to anybody. Whatever helps you sleep at night but we certainly wouldn't be hearing words like "hiatus" if things were all sunny and optimistic
It's kinda like when you ask someone out and they say they're busy. Nah fool, if he or she was really into you there'd be a date set.

The big thing is I don't think will see much movement until Battlefront 2 has gone gold. As that's EA's main priority right now. However, Bioware's Dragon age producer has been sending little hints on twitter that the new dragon age game is in pre-production. The bottom line is the game made them a lot of cash so i don't see them killing MA in any way.

Whoever these anonymous sources were, didn't know enough to speak on the matter. They're making assumptions. EA and Bioware have made very different statements and... EA's Marketing and PR departments are horrible. Straight up horrible. They have no clue of what Bioware does or stands for. They have no freakin' clue on how to communicate effectively. They're so unoriginal that they can't help but meddle in things to justify their well being. Am I on target here?

Well no, you're just a poster on some website so your bit doesn't have as much weight as a bona fide outlet in the gaming industry. Until someone relevant actually refutes the claim that mass effect is on hiatus then it is more likely true than it is untrue

Five unnamed sources close to the White House confirm." Great journalism, there. The article has been edited twice now. Once for intent and second time for misleading. Both times were high-successful baits. The best. Kotaku isn't journalism. It's speculation. Nothing more. Sure, you can get a lot right speculating, but that's not journalism. Anyone that uses them as a source is pretty dumb. Anyone that uses them as their only source, is even dumber. Looking at The Know and every damn YouTuber that got it wrong. EA's marketing should come out swinging, but no... nope... nothing is wrong. I love collecting paychecks and not doing anything to help the brand, the franchise, etc. Nope...

Until someone relevant actually refutes the claim that mass effect is on hiatus then it is more likely true than it is untrue “With that said, we believe Mass Effect Andromeda delivers a rich, deep experience which celebrates what makes the franchise great: wonderful, beautiful, deep rich worlds, amazing combat and engaging fast-paced, multiplayer. New multiplayer content is continuing to be released and new content kind of arriving overall more regularly so. We’re very happy with kind of how BioWare is doing, how BioWare is treating Mass Effect. And our expectations for Mass Effect are still strong for the future and the franchise overall.” “And so we’re very happy with BioWare. BioWare has continued to support Mass Effect, and the new team is doing some amazing things, and you’ll hear more about that in the months to come.” EA said this after the article had been released. Does that sound like it's on ice? And if you think it's just PR nonsense, well it could be a bit of spin, but it was in the most recent earnings call with investors, and it's actually illegal to lie to investors if you know something different. So to say that you are going to continue to support Mass Effect as a franchise and brand, you can't also know that you are putting it on ice. That would be super legally sketchy.

Oh, man, I love The Know and go to them for a lot of gaming news, and when I saw they had picked up the article that first day it was published I was so pissed! I even commented on the video with how I was disappointed in them giving this click-bait article more traction (for all the good YouTube comments do). Very disappointing. Maybe Bioware or EA should say something against the article, but when they announce their DLC plans for MEA (which is all but confirmed by Cora's VA) I think people will calm down a bit. Plus, in 3 years when they announce MEA:2 people will have forgotten all about Kotaku's BS article anyway, so I don't think it would hurt the brand necessarily. I could be wrong on that, though, as I'm not a sales analyst.

Consumers, especially rabid fans like Bioware, who are used to hearing from the source now only get snippets of stuff here and there. If you want to attract a larger fanbase, forget the plan that EA is using. It's utter garbage. I swear, Bioware has to be working with one armed tied behind their back when those suits show up. Again, what's wrong the picture?

Until BioWare come out and say "The last weeks worth of news reported in every gaming news outlet in existence is not correct."
Assume it to be correct.
They could kill off the talk about it with one tweet.
They haven't.

From what I read here MEA is average.... it break even financialy, that is not good for companies like EA.

This hiatus thing makes me laugh a lot, the game is barely 2 months old, still too early to announce dlc & defo too early to announce ME:A2, the fact that staff have been moved from this project to another, is just standard procedure, it happened when DA:I was completed & no-one raised a fuss, this is, in my opinion, nothing more than a storm in a tea cup & I'll just wait & see what happens.
All I've got to say on this matter for now

So to say that you are going to continue to support Mass Effect as a franchise and brand, you can't also know that you are putting it on ice. That would be super legally sketchy. You need to "read between the lines". He is suit, he talks suit, if EA were impressed by MEA, everything said would be much more enthusiastic. From what I read here MEA is average.... it break even financialy, that is not good for companies like EA. Right, the EA stockholders should have called you for your expert read on the situation.

I would prefer BioWare to stop making games at this point because they have a lot of shaping to do.

Until BioWare come out and say "The last weeks worth of news reported in every gaming news outlet in existence is not correct." Assume it to be correct. They could kill off the talk about it with one tweet. They haven't. *Searches the liquor cabinet* Again, who runs their marketing and PR teams? They want to see Bioware fail from my perspective.

Right so DAI released Nov 2014, two and a half years ago. I guess we'll know towards 2020 whether MEA2 is in pre-production.

BioWare Montreal failed as a dev studio as a support studio will still be working on Andromeda but not at a fast clip I know, I know, but I want dat DLC sooooo badly, and any kind of news about actual game stuff! Everyone just clammed up right now. So sad....
