We don't know what lessons they will learn from MEA until they release their next game. But then they did incorporate lessons learned from the MET into MEA. People complained about ME 3s dark tone. Result we got a lot lighter and more adventurous tone. People complained about the restrictive corridor crawler aspects of later Mass Effects. Result we got far more open plants to play in. But since many complained DAI was too open they shrunk the maps and made them more story focused. People complaoned about how restrictive the role playing in Me 3 so they expanded the options available (from 2-7) and gave you far more control of Ryders Character then you ever had over Shep. Really? Please tell me what those 7 options were? I think I must have gotten a different game. My game had Paragon and at worst Neutral with usually only two flavors of Paragon. The only time I got more was during important story points which there weren't many. Of the two choices I got, most of those were the same thing, just said differently. Maybe you enjoyed playing a meek subservient Ryder who the whipping boy for everyone around him/her, but I didn't. Totally agree. They castrated the male lead to court young female gamers, who are very hostile towards anything remotely masculine. Devs are terrified of Patriarchy Rage. Notice the powerful women and weak men in The Last of Us 2 trailer.

Paragon/Renegade (for lack of a better term) Flirt. There were a couple of others but those are the main ones. Maybe you enjoyed playing that kind of Ryder. Mine was a bad ass. Probably even more then either of my Shepards.

I'd recommend coming up with a working definition of "badass" before trying to see whether a particular Ryder fits in that box.

What bada** things did your Ryder do? Raising a Remnant fleet. Shooting a Black Widow Sniper Rifle one handed and taking out a person who was using Vetra's sister as a human shield. Shooting the other Asari in the back and securing the data. Telling off multiple thugs in the psychological attempt, and tip toeing on the line between getting shot in the face and just...well...living to see another day. Dropping Aroam off a bridge (not saying this is especially bad ass but it demonstrated Robert Ryder's 'I am the Law' attitude he adopted towards the end of the game). Led a mutiny against the Andromeda Iniative Cent Com and launched a one team assault on the Remnant City Ship. And...well I think that is it.

There were a couple of non relevant side mission npc's that tell you off with Sam telling you that "You don't want to get involved with this". You don't get any options to change the outcome. You just take it in the ass and move on...

Still though I found it more funny then anything.

Shepard also had experiences like that where NPCs start stuff and Shepard can't do anything but walk away so I don't see why that is a mark against just Ryder.

I wouldn't call that bada**. I call that returning the favor for trying to kill me. Wasn't that Drack who dropped Aroane? If Ryder was the one holding the guy, that would be bada** regardless if he/she drops him.

Also the psychology of the situation is to be taken into account. Again not specificifically too bad ass by itself but the mere fact that Robert had adopted a Jack Bauer/ Raylan Givens, Renegade Shepard mindset of 'doing what had to be done, no matter what anyone said aka I am the law'. Perhaps. But I call it cold blooded ruthless calculus to put the mission before any personal considerations. I mean don't get me wrong on the scale of intergalactic bad asses Robert Ryder and Abigail Shepard are really close. After all she did assassinate a Turian politician. Just saying, when it comes to people saying they can't play a bad ass Ryder "I find your lack of imagination...disturbing".

Dialog and actions don't match up. In the OT, I had no problem playing as one. I didn't have to imagine I was one, I could see in his/her actions and read/hear in the dialog choices. What we got with MEA was a paragon Ryder with different shades of it. The closest thing to renegade in MEA was about equal to neutral in the OT. You don't get to choose what Ryder says, only how he/she says it. This is great if you want a paragon Ryder which you can refine to what type of paragon he/she is, but no matter how you dress it up, it's still paragon at the end of the day. LIke I said before, we went from at least 3 choices for dialog in about every conversation (neutral, paragon, and renegade) in the OT to two choices in about 80% of the game and most of those were saying the same thing, just in a different way in MEA.

Ryder didn't have to be badass. He/She just had to be charismatic and deliver dialogue with passion and emotion. By my assessment that rarely happened in MEA.

This sums up my feelings on the options or lack thereof to shape the Ryder character. While we really didn't have the total control over Shepard's personality that the member berry crowd remembers, the player did have more control over it with the choices they made in dialogue.

What i meant by imagination was not me pretending to be a renegade merely some peoples inability to use the dialogue system properly...and then blaming the game for it.
