After some fine reporting by Kotaku a while a go, many here refused to believe facts and rather embraced corporate lies. That's because they are Americans. For those actually interested in the truth, the reporter eloborated on it over on Reddit: FYI, sharing gossip is not journalism. If it was, my mother (who was a hairdresser) would have been the most celebrated journalist of her generation. I'm not going to say if the article is true or not but this makes no sense. You're basically saying that anyone who cites a source is spreading gossip. Any journalist who has sources is writing their piece based on their understanding of what they were told, or what they heard from their source.

lol on Reddit he says maybe they'll do a reboot in 5 or 6 years. That's basically the time the next game would happen. Yep. Don't trust this guy at all. Are we sure 5 years is a proper timeline? The entire OT came out in the span of 5 years. (Don't know development time for ME1 but ME2 and ME3 got 3 and 2 years, respectively.) MEA took longer because of a new engine and, well, if articles are to be believed, a lot of shit going on behind the scenes. MEA2 should not take as long to develop. Also, I'm still expecting at least one DLC for MEA, though I probably won't pick the game up again until it's released. After Anthem is DA4, so it would take us into the years 20/21/22 by the time we hear anything since a lot of them leave one project to move on to another. MEA had ME, DA and SWTOR teams working on it.

As I have already said and I'll continue to say it: until it comes from the horses mouth there will be dlc. EA/BioWare would have said something definitive during the "Journey ahead" article on the Mass Effect site and that had been two weeks since the game's release. So, since we haven't gotten a definitive no from them since that article (it's obviously been months by the way), there is nothing to worry about. Now then the question becomes is how many dlc's would we get? That's harder to answer. Doing dlc is a low risk/high reward scenario, because you already have majority of the assets excluding a couple new ones like locations, etc. DAI and ME3 both got three dlc's (of course ME3 having that infamous day one dlc) excluding cosmetic dlc's. S0, I think will get two certainly one dlc. That had better never happen again. I preorder the game at GameStop. I did that because GameStop always ran out new, physical copies of the game. I drop my $70 and then the employee tells me to buy another registration card for Day One DLC. Her and I shared the most awkward, uncomfortable moment two people can share with just a register between us. I'm not hurting for disposable income, but I know a shakedown when I see it. Anyway, thank the Maker for online downloads.

I agree with what some people have said here, that with the new IP Anthem EA will have Bioware on a three-year dev cycle with their three IP's. FY19 for Anthem, FY20 for DA4, FY21 for MEA2. FY21 technically starts October of 2020, which would be about three years cycle is they bring the team back after working on Anthem and Battlefront II, but based on the Anthem delay we might see MEA2 closer to the end of FY21, March 2021 or so.

"A primary source provides direct or firsthand evidence about an event, object, person, or work of art." "Gossip: casual or unconstrained conversation or reports about other people, typically involving details that are not confirmed as being true." That is the difference to me. But to be a fair, I am a scientist, not a journalist. Everything I publish is reviewed by anonymous experts, critiqued and revised for several months before it gets published, etc. So perhaps my standards are a little high when it comes to what I read and I what I call "fact" versus "possible...but could be bullshit".

hah. When an editor/reporter feels like they need to justify their work rather than let it stand on it's on merits I'm even less inclined to trust it.
As for the office being gutted, well, it's odd that they're still doing Twitch streams from there, isn't it?

You know, the funny part of this is that time will prove the guy right, as it did other times. MEA will have minimal post game content compared to ME3 or ME2 and it will be a long time before the next Mass Effect game.
Yet this whole thing will happen again, somewhere with some other game. He will report something that people won't like and they will say he is just lying or wanting hits.

Conversation with the source could have went like this. Q: What is the situation at Bioware Mohtreal A: Not good, the place has really been gutted. There are dozens and dozens of empty cubes from people who have left to go work on other projects. I've been through post release down scaling before, but i've never seen anything like this. Q: Were you expecting to be downsized like this. A: No, were expecting to start work on MEA:2 immediately after Andromeda launched. We weren't expecting to be downsized like this. Q: Do think the game will get an DLC. A: Can't say for sure, that decision is above my paygrade, but from the ways things are going here I'd doubt it.

Q: Do think the game will get an DLC. A: Can't say for sure, that decision is above my paygrade, but from the ways things are going here I'd doubt it. Fair point. I used to hear interviews all the time in my mom's salon. Mom: So how are things going on at your job? Wanda: Not good. It's like a graveyard over there since so many people have left to work on other things. I've never seen anything like it. Times are really changing. Mom: Was there no warning at all that folks would be leaving like that? Wanda: No! We were expecting to work o the next project. No one expected it. Mom: Do you think the project will continue? Wanda: I don't get paid enough to know stuff like that! But it seems unlikely to me. Now...it is OK for my mom to talk about what she heard and make inferences based of that. That is what folks do. However, she has no primary source that has confirmed or denied that the the project will not go on (she did not talk to Wanda''s boss). She also did not see the empty cubicles at Wanda's workplace. However, she tells my dad all about it, who was looking forward to the project at Wanda's company, and he tells all his friends, and before you know it, it is considered truth by a bunch of folks in the community.

I think you're probably right, and it's frustrating to see the amount of "motivated" skepticism toward this story. But it's understandable. We all want more (good) ME content, and the idea that we might see little or no more ME for a half a decade or more is a tough pill to swallow.

I don't think it would help the franchise, only because people have such differentiating opinions on the games and what needs to be fixed, adjusted, and left alone.

If this is true - that the Montreal studio is gutted and there will be no SP DLC or MEA2 than I am really mad at Bioware or EA for not taking into account how many people actually enjoyed this game and want to see more.
If the opinions of some media and some reviewers have been the only voices heard than that sucks. Bad reviews impact sales and while it was clear the unpolished nature of the game in terms of graphics was criticism worthy for sure, I did feel that a fair bit of the criticism was about wanting ME4 and not MEA.
I am on my second playthrough and I am still having fun with the game. The writing, the characters, the worlds, the lore, the combat and the possibilities for future storytelling are all solid - better than most games and sure, perhaps not as good as some - but nonetheless solid. I hope Bioware and EA listen to some of their MEA fans and give us more!

Why are so many people in denial that EA may be done with MEA?
Either you are living under a rock and believe MEA to be a financial and critical hit worthy of a sequel, or you know that MEA wasnt so hot but out of sheer defiance, you still expect another ME game.
I dont knoe which is worse....

Which I know everyone involved will say "bah-hum-bug." However, I'm with you. If BioWare 2.0 can pull off a small miracle with Andromeda, then you know... ABSOLUTELY WOULD BET MONEY ON IT... that they would turn the original trilogy into something that isn't mentioned on every top 10 worst endings list. They would have to market it as Mass Effect 1.1, though. Because they would be obligated to correct all the lore that was wrong with it and the new animations (when polished for Maker's sake) would make it epic. Simply epic. The original vision would shine through way better than Casey Hudson dreamed. Not only do I see it as a worthy goal, but an easy challenge for BioWare 2.0. However, that's something can wait. I'm more interested in where we're headed in the next installment in Dragon Age. I'm very excited to hear that we could be Tevinter.

I hope Bioware and EA listen to some of their MEA fans and give us more! Right now I firmly believe there is going to be one DLC since it has money already invested in it since they probably started about the time the game shipped. Now any future DLC after that one is going to be based on how well the first DLC will sell which is probably the exact same metric for the prior games as well. As much as that article wants to push the agenda off the death of BioWare Montreal or how the game is on hiatus based on what employees were expecting (at least that is where the sources seem to be lower level developers). It isn't unusual to have a studio to go into hiatus mode after a game is released and it might not be expected for BioWare Montreal by the employees, it doesn't indicate complete doom and gloom either. Being honest I get that people disliked Andromeda and there are some employees that are upset about what happened, at the same time things also happen in development that are a coincidence as well. An example is that I am pretty sure they said somewhere they moved people to Motion studios which is also located in Montreal, so another theory could be that they were planning on going straight to full development but with the problems at launch and they need people at Motion it was decided by executives to move people to Motion for six months to help with crunch and then move back to Andromeda with some new rules about development after Battlefront 2 releases. There is no evidence for what I am thinking, but it is a possibility of what might possibly could be happening as well.

Heh. I bet it will be a new opening, maybe even some MET Remaster before that. That's how you save Mass Effect. Remaster the trilogy and then after a time release a new game with a development team that has both competence and a clear, defined vision. I'm in agreement with you, SofNascimento.

Anything is possible, but I am not going to base everything on what one author on Kotaku is posting either. If I believed that Mass Effect is dead I would no longer post here for there would be better uses of my time. Edit: Spelling

There has already been a remaster of the MET, it's called ALOT (and MEUITM for ME1), and it's free. The Trilogy isn't old enough to need anything else.
I suppose one day I'll understand why gamers can be at the same time so pissed off that devs play it safe in their games AND be so eager to get remasters. But that day hasn't come yet.

I dont knoe which is worse.... From the numbers EA released about earnings from Deluxe editions of the game (which more than paid for the reported $40 million budget), as well as what we know about physical sales and their relation to digital sales, we can be reasonably certain that they hit their 3 million sales projections, or at least reasonably close, and then with multiplayer earnings and coming DLC, all data points to MEA being a financial success. Just not a runaway hit. If EA can be sure than given x amount of investment they can get y return, they will continue to do that with it in the black. Better a reasonable success you know than a flop that bankrupts the company.
