You could kill NPCs back in Bioware's Baldur's Gate... back when they still made the best rpgs. So what if you can kill npcs? what does that offer in terms of gameplay value? Replayability. Entertainment.

update #2 :some thoughts: One thing andromeda fails is the geography, map design, landmark design. I like the planets ive been so far but something is missing in all of them. the geography is boring. the level-map design is boring. The vistas are not there. the landmarks are not there. it is not that they are barren cause Hissing waste and Western approach were barren but also very beautiful. Also a big fail immersion breaking for me is the flaura and fauna. There are boring as well/ The fauna... consists of what??? a jerky moving raptor and some huge ass beetles?but any meaningful questline was a beast to look and roam at! too many landmarks, too many steeps but interesting ones! i remember the river that poured into the sea. I remember the views from above. everything. I am setting up album with ultra settings screenshots from MEA. Very curious what will you say after you see all those ´ boring ´ planets. And lacking flora and fauna? The planets were DYING and detroying themselves, until Ryder reset the vaults. I am pretty sure in sequel (if we ever get one...btw thanks haters and trolls!) Heleus cluster will look very different after proper activation of Meridian. But that ´ s just my guess. man the graphics have their moments. Let me say this:When i first saw Hinterlands, storm coast, fallow mire in 2015 i was blown away. b l o w n a w a y.Andromeda has it's moments but it never blew me away so far (have not finished the game). The first vault was a beast though.Yes it should not be full of life but then again all these bugs and raptors get boring and old pretty fast. there is no diversity (see what i did there? ). The plants are too samey. i wanted variation. I am on kadara, its cool and that but even when DESTINY:S VENUS is more interesting then something is wrong with layout/detail etc. I appreciate the fact that after the vaults the atmosphere changes but IF we could see plant growing outside the outpost aftersome time passed that would be fantastic. p.s the haters need a biotic charge

This is friendly fire you are talikng about. I like it and i always play dragon age games with it. I simply cannot play them without it. Mass effect is another case however due to the chaos of explotions, biotic tech and combat.. dont know how this could be done. Maybe it could work! Yeah, it is friendly fire. Being able to kill everyone in a game is nothing but that. If some people abuse it to massacre everyone, that's their (mental) problem.

I'm playing them on ultra by the way. Doesn't take care of telegraph pole NPCs and a postcard environment that only manages to conjure up challenges by dropping in enemies left, right and center.

Just a guess. Funny thing is, when Inqusition was released, everyone bitched about how boring it is, how it is ´ the end of Bioware or DA franchise blah blah blah (sounds familiar?)´ but suddenly, it is the best Bioware game for some people. I love Andromeda and I love Inqusition, but I would never compare them, because I learned to love and appreciate those games for what they are, not for what they are not. People didn ´ t even allow MEA to stand on its of feet and just blindly started to compare it with everything. If they learned to look at the game without prejudice, I bet everything would end up differently. Havarl is incredibly beautiful planet. It has abundant fauna and flora, but just because its vault was malfunctioning and caused mutations and overgrowth in wildlife. Other vaults ´ malfunctions caused planets to slowly die and wither. And which lifeforms tend to live and thrive in harsh conditions? Fungi (like on Kadara or elsewhere) and bugs with hard carapaces. And krogan. But again, that ´ s just my guess and impression. P.S.: Sadly, I don ´ t have biotic abilities in real life. It would be cool though. That ´ s why I play games.

So what if you can kill npcs? what does that offer in terms of gameplay value? Replayability. Entertainment. Or a great way to vent rage and aggression. Or show those poor insiqnificant npcs just how much you don ´ t care about them, right?

Friendly fire in combat is different than beeing able to kill npcs in cities. No, it isn't. You're facing the same challenges in cities off and on. There's the possibility of you getting attacked there. Better make sure to aim at your attackers and not at the guards coming to help you or the merchant, who just picked up his gun to take care of the problem also. It's a reactive environment, after all. There's no such thing as your inquisition soldiers just standing there as if nothing happened while you get attacked in the middle of your camp in DAI.

Ι play on ps4pro on a 4k tv with HDR mind you (the draw distance is very bad in this game), yes it looks good and sometimes it is quite the looker but it does not have that wow factor. I LOVED inquisition from the first time i inserted the disc. Inquisition for me is one hell of a looker and level i prefer its look than even witcher's . Havarl was great mostly to not beeing a drivable planet i think hnce the various platforimg sections and the memorable canyon.

And this has always been my main problem with open worlds: should I kill this guy? What if 100 hours later I find out that he could help me with a quest? Should I enter this area? What if someone send me there later for some reason and I had spoiled something like, I don't know, making some people hostiles? I always get anxious when I play open worlds and in the end I always end up looking at walktroughs just to know what I can do and what I mustn't do every time. That shouldn't be a problem with this game, since there are only generic dropped in enemies whereas every other NPC is invulnerable. You can't even draw your weapon outside of a clear cut combat situation anyway. I don't think this problem is specifically tied to the 'kill 'em all' option: TW3 has 'immortal NPC' too but I remember I visited a location once and I triggered a quest just by exploring. Later in the game I found the questgiver for that location and when I went there it was glitched (I had already finished it but after I talked with the guy it was reopened in my journal and I couldn't complete it) It's obvious that the possibility to have NPC killed (either by accident or on purpose) increases the chances to break something but I still think that it's more a matter of quest design and then of QA department which must test every option to be sure that if a quest is composed by 'x' checkpoints the player can complete it no matter what order he hit them. Perhaps it should be better to prevent certain areas from being visited before some quest is triggered but I know that it's not possible, because in that case it would clash with the "open world" concept. So it's always up to the player that must be able to balance the "freedom of exploration" with the ability to not break something by "sensing" that it's better to leave a NPC alone or to visit a specif area later. And this is why I always prefer games with self-contained areas: they are far less stressful to play.

Huh, I guess you enjoy playing as a an AI named SAM that has infected Ryder's body like the Manchurian Candidate. See, I thought that this was supposed to be about finding a new home for humanity, not dicking around shooting aliens in the face. And that just comprises the first mission. Silly me. He doesn't need your damn permission to like something chuckles.
