Have seen lots of chat comparing DAI with MEA.

For me DAI was a great game and I played it at least 8 times. For me what made it replayable was being able to play as another species and the changes to reactions, dialogue and other things that it opened up such as different information say if you played as a female elf and romanced Solas.

Do people think MEA would have benefited from being able to have the main character play as a different species?

Good point. All the different species in DAI got by without translators by speeaking was it called "commons"

Have a standard trade language or just rely on translators like we do in MEA wiith the Angara.

Yeah I think the same, so when we play as aliens in the MP I always found it a bit odd we are hearing English words. If they could work around that, it would be fun to be a different species!

I'm not sure if ME:A would be better just with the opportunity to play different races - the dialogues that felt forced & crindgeworthy most of the time and weird story pacing was it what broke the game for me so I don't think same dialogue (or slightly chenged dialogue based on the race you play) would have made a difference.

Edit: And no, please, don't use my post to create a new discussion about what makes ME:A good or bad, please. This is just my personal opinion, if you have another thought on the matter I'm pretty sure I was reading about that in others of the dozen threads that talk about that. And I'm happy that you enjoyed the game the way it is - I wish I could have done that. Just want to state that playing different races wouldn't do much difference except for maybe a bit replayability.

I did many PT, and in my opinion the best possible mix for story/lore is:
DA:O - male/female Dwarf
DA2 - male Hawke
DAI - female Elf

It was already explained in ME1 that all races can understand each other thanks to the translators in the omnitool.

I would love to play a Quarian or a Turian character. I'tired of always playng human characters, expecially in shi-fi settings. It's so banal using a human protagonist in a space story. Playng an alien would really make the game more fresh.

Agree would love to play as a Quarian, would be interesting to see if they let you see the characters face. Waiting for dlc to hopefully see Quarians without suits or at least no helmet.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if they added it, but I don't really miss having the feature. I like playing a human protagonist.
