I've thought a good bit about whether or not I'm happy about Mass Effect being supposedly put on ice. It's obviously not official but it's easy to believe.
I honestly think it is a good thing and I hope whatever team picks it up continues the MEA story. Considering Mass Effect especially MEA is at its core about space exploration with an engaging story/plot, I think it would benefit the series to wait until the technology is better to provide a true space game that takes the training wheels off. By training wheels I mean the limitations of exploration and semi on rails experience.
I want the next game to fully allow me to control my space ship and fly between planets. I want to be able seemlessly travel between vast open alien wilderness to sprawling metropolises similar to how we can seemlessly do that in games like the Witcher 3 or Skyrim.
I also want the technology to evolve enough to allow for more quantity with the same pedigree of quality that people came to expect after ME2. So basically, I am ok with waiting until the generation of hardware is released before we get another Mass Effect.
And I think we'll get there in 5 or 6 years easily. I could be wrong but I think putting the series on ice is a goood thing

Seriously, this whole debacle and subsequent icing has left a very bitter, salty taste in my mouth....at this point a hiatus for 10 years seems more likely though: 5 years away with this level of bad vibe around ME is very unlikely. Either way, a break is good - a trilogy remaster would be better at this point too IMO.
By my calculations I'll be 47 then when the next Mass Effect rolls out, holy fucking shit....that's some trippy shit.

I'd say they should just forget Andromeda. Most people already have, and many more will as time passes.

5 to 6 years would mean they're starting development now or in the very near future. Not gonna happen. Well, unless it's supposed to be some hipfire product they fork out within a year or two. And I don't know if that is something I could look forward to.
There's always the old trilogy. I'd rather have them do some quality DLC for Andromeda to fill in the blanks, but I don't think this is going to happen also. I'd rather have them put ME to sleep than come up again with some halfbaked attempt to keep the franchise going.

As long as they release a game every year or two, I don't care which IP it is. I just love their games.

I could be wrong but I think putting the series on ice is a goood thing The only way I see us waiting 5+ years for a new ME game is if Bioware goes back to the drawing board again and start from scratch, possibly even using assets from Anthem. With that being said, I do not see that happening. If MEA was a critical success and had off the chart sales, then I can see them doing a MEA2 and having it out by 2020. However considering that it wasn't a critical success and much investment is going into Anthem, I just do not see EA moving forward with MEA at all. At most, we would get one DLC, possibly this Quarian DLC everyone here seems to be expecting, just to close a few gaps and allow fans of MEA to have a nice lasting taste of MEA. But after that, I believe Mass Effect will quietly fade away. Not saying the fans will let it quietly fade away, but EA/Bioware probably won't announce it but they will just move on and focus on Anthem and other new projects. Depending on the success of DA4, the DA brand could follow suit behind the ME brand and both be replaced by new IPs.

Personally, I would like to keep it to one franchise's offering per year with a multitude of DLC (or expansions). Next year, Anthem. Next after that DA4, Next after that MEA2. I know that's unreasonable. I'm just into those products that will keep me coming back like Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Fallout. (Just a note: I'm disappointed with Bethesda's FO4. Certain mods that would make the game more immersible aren't there and I don't know why.) That is a franchise that would do well (EXTREMELY WELL) in BioWare's hands. Anyway, I hear you Carefull.

Still not understanding why people need the world to adjust for their bad feelings about something. If that game comes in two years instead of five or ten and it's great and you love it you'd wonder why you said these things. Really the issue is whether or not you hang onto your bad feelings or try to feel better about it. Focusing on how bad you feel about it will only perpetuate that bad feeling. Could be 30 years and if all you do is think of the bad stuff rather than the stuff you liked about it then 30 years still wouldn't be long enough. Best thing you can do is learn to cope better.

I think you'll see a new Andromeda game in 2020/21. Not because of a "break" but because that's the BioWare development cycle.
There were a couple of things going on here; ongoing bitterness about the OT, as evidenced on this forum plenty, and a rocky release. The first BioWare can't do fuck all about, nor should they, and the second they've been doing their best to repair.
In the end, this game performed financially well, just not critically well. Nothing in the EA financials, or BW's ongoing support, show a game that "failed". The next MEA may be different in content and story, but it'll still be an Andromeda game and I suspect the game announcement will be 2019 or 2020.

I don't actually think that expecting a release of one of their three IP's each year is unreasonable. In fact, I believe that is what their model will be, especially with EA footing the bill. Big producers like EA expect quick return on investment, and if it's true that MEA was basically made in 18 months, then having a good Mass Effect game with an experienced team and better management in 3 years is totally reasonable. That seems to be about an average development time for a AAA title these days anyway. They have many Mass Effect resources in Frostbite now, and just need to build on systems they had to develop from scratch for MEA. The development should be much easier for MEA2 than it was for MEA. I fully expect that we will see Anthem in late 2018, DA4 in late 2019 or early 2020, and MEA2 in late 2020 or early 2021. And so on until they Sonic the Hedgehog out of one of the IP's and come up with something totally different.

I honestly don't know what will happen to the franchise at this point. I know I would like to see a sequel to MEA. I know I want to see how things turn out for the initiative in the long run, I also know I would like to know what has happened in the Milky Way since the reaper war. I also know I may never find out what happened in either scenario if the haters get their way and corporate decides the franchise is no longer worth it. I would like to think the Mass Effect brand is still valuable enough not to be discarded.

Right now, there is no indication that Bioware Montreal has begun production on the next Mass Effect game, especially considering that the studio has been downsized to work on other Bioware projects. The logic just doesn't add up. But we shall see and DLC will be a big clue. The longer we go without DLC the increased chance that there won't be a MEA2.

I had no bugs or glitches in my game and aside from the awful animation problems I am not sure I understand all the hate... With Anthem being pushed back to 2018 the next game in the channel for BioWare is DA4. After that another MEA game. There have been a couple of things that have led me to believe that Kotaku article was blown out of proportion. One, BioWare is still streaming MP streams from Montreal every Thurs and one of the guys on the stream even made the comment to a viewer that "they were still there despite the news". Even if a player doesn't give a shit about the MP part of ME it shows that things are still going on. Also, Mike Gamble mentioned in a Tweet on the day of the 1.08 patch that they were working on the next patch release. For a "failure" this damn game sure is receiving a shite ton of support. We forget that EA and BioWare see's numbers that we can't through Origin, Microsoft and PSN. If those numbers show an active player base they'll keep supporting it. If they don't they'll drop it. All I'm seeing at this point is on-going support.

A lot will depend on market trends. The western, single player RPG experience that Bioware offers is starting to feel like a outdated model in these online MP dominated times. If this continues and particularly if Anthem does well, I think ME is going to face some pretty serious time on the bench.
But trends come around and a truly inspired single player, story heavy RPG could help that, no matter who its from. Some could argue Witcher 3 did that, but its hard to say. The Witcher had a hardcore fanbase already and it released after a very lean few years for good WRPGs (DAI also profiting from this). The industry badly needed hits to rekindle gamer morale and engagement, so both games were given a very easy ride by critics despite huge flaws in both games (though I concede TW3 was by today's standards a decent game).
It remains to be seen if such games can still profit in happier times for the industry. There is a general sense that this gen is finally hitting its stride and MEA may be an early indication of dark times for the single player non Bethesda RPG.
