How would they have known any details if they didn't work on the game. The thing that is funny about Kotaku is that when the article about the hiatus came out everyone called him a hack, hasn't been trustworthy in the past, etc. But then when he put out the article about the troubled development everyone was saying, oh, well the game only had 18 months development, this explains a lot, and generally accepted that. Once again, two calls, one phonebook search. That's all it took. That guy is a professional. Even a total hack wouldn't fall for that. And what's more, nobody from Bioware or EA disputed what he said. They were pretty quick disputing it today. Wouldn't you think they would have done the same with an article in one of the bigger outlets in the gaming industry instead of just a discussion on their very own boards?

Clearly after this debacle what we need is a movement championing "ethics in games journalism" Oh! Does that mean I get to call people mean names and utterly destroy them as human beings? Fun! *Sarcasm*

What's kind of interesting is that this Facebook page had been open since 2014, and posting about other things like working on The Division severs in 2016, as well as on Red Dead Redemption 2, and had posted other things at launch of MEA and even said they would be at E3 because 7 games they were working on world be revealed.
I don't really know how easy it is to backdate things on Facebook, but I don't see how this was created JUST to hoax the Mass Effect community. I'd really like to know the reason they created the page and well through all that effort in the first place. I can't believe it was just for Mass Effect.

What I find interesting though is that I'm still getting several google hits for articles saying that the DLC was cancelled... and I haven't found a retraction by any of those writers yet... even though Bioware clearly indicated that it was a hoax hours ago now. The gaming journalistic community really doesn't have a whole lot to be proud of here, me thinks.

But apparently this was a hoax? I've been asleep so I guess i missed a lot.

User of that FB page also said in past that their fake company created some DLC for UbiSoft's Ghost Recon Wildlands, but then UbiSoft slashed down their DLC in parts to be sold separately. FB page were not based just to hoax ME community, it was based to hoax anything gaming related to gather attention from online outrage culture. Mass Effect was just one of those games on the list.

It wasn't even picked up by the larger magazines to begin with. They obviously did the checks right at the start, if it even was on their radar.

If you'll notice their response to DLC is the same as it has always been.

Everything that has Bioware hate label on it is making money these days. That ´ s why people are still attempting to make cash from it. Like that whole ´ buy my book which has all the spicy details about Bioware I promise ´. MEA is NOT universally hated. Trolls and haters are just the ones with largest mouths and no real life. Andromeda is such a bad game I played it for 70 hours I know right? It is so bad, I only finished 2 playtroughs and working on third right now. Plus, I play MP almost daily. Yes, it is that boring game.

God can't wait to see my Facebook this morning.
Still something heartening happened in going through the twitter thread. They said they work on all their own patches. Which means all the work they've done to improve the game has been on them.
Let that sink.in.

The thing with them not disputing the Kotaku article is that the information that the studio had been downsized and sent to work on other products was true, and verified by EA. But it was the interpretation that there would be no Mass Effect DLC or work on the future game that was wrong, but Jason stated it was just his opinion. He even backtracked on it saying there could be DLC he was just doubtful. The Sinclair thing was a "company" lying about working with Bioware and their own credentials. They lied about who they were and where their information was from. Jason just had an unpopular interpretation of various facts.

They're less likely to comment on an article in a somewhat reputable gaming zine. They didn't comment on the post on SN's Facebook page only on what they saw in BSN's thread. If you'll notice their response to DLC is the same as it has always been. Yeah, and that won't change unless the company greenlights them saying anything of substance. But that's not how the media business works. That's also not how PR works. If there's an article in the press, if it's large enough to pick up speed over the internet, crisis PR steps in to counter the news. If there is anything to counter. That's the whole purpose of that rather new field of PR. It only came to be with the arrival of social media and in the meantime there are large firms specialising in that field. So them not disputing an article isn't how business works these days. Kotaku also didn't pick up on today's rumor. Only the Daily Express did in their online edition. Other than that, user generated sites without any journalistic approach.

Depends. They did announce the SWTOR expansions at E3. True, but MMO expansions are a whole different thing. Those things can cost as much as brand new games, they need to get serious marketing behind. They were also playing on the hype of the seventh star wars release.
