Eurogamer claiming a source has told them no DLC is coming out...

It bothers me as a journalist how easily people assume unnamed sources are just imaginary, and reporters just make stuff up. Even in gaming news, these are people with professional pride in finding the truth and providing it to the public.

goes to show though things can happen though if we want them enough.

What's even more creepy is the notion that journalists are some unchallengeable class - how dare the peasants be skeptical!? 

I said that a while ago. Basically, as long as these people run anything about Andromeda, it puts the name out there.


If they plan on making MEA2 and  it gets great reviews, anyone who was  put off by the crapshow MEA got might rethink playing it and go back to discover and game  that is infinitely better for all the patching and with DLC too. That's the beauty of doing trilogies. You guarantee yourself to get sales from people who came in later and wanted  to try the previous games. Doesn't even have to be a great game. How  many people went back to play ME1 and ME2 because of ME3? I remember seeing many, many posts from people who did back in 2012.


Meanwhile, all this press is keeping  the name alive. I even speculated that BW is the one behind it at one point because it wouldn't matter if they said  no DLC  a billion times. Once the DLC is out, those articles  are seen as false. All of this  is free advertising. Easy  as pie.

Once (twice, three times, four?) again, people are not skeptical simply because the sources are anonymous. They're skeptical of how the anonymous sources are being used to 'prove' stories in a circular fashion and their convenient timing (i.e. responding just after the last source saying the exact same thing was revealed to be a hoax).

If it bothers you as a journalist that such skepticism exists then perhaps that is a indictment of the state of media. Here in the UK where brexit is proving to be every bit the trainwreck the 'doomsayers'/'enemies of the people' predicted, the media doesn't have the best reputation.

Yeah that's what I thought too. It was really odd that there's no cover for that one. Spoilers was my first thought.

On Amazon we have Initiation dated for Nov 6th and they are calling Annihilation The Lost Ark there and it's coming out Dec 5th. Both are audiobooks it seems.

Not to mention there have been many reporters in recent times across all media types that have gotten caught...making stuff up.  Gee.  Wonder why we'd be skeptical.

It's the journo's job to write a convincing story. Unnamed sources isn't very convincing. Especially coupled with the timing of some weird elaborate hoax to screw with Andromeda fans.

Anonymous sources are one of the most honored traditions in journalism. Papers have spent millions in court defending their right to keep them secret because they are so valuable to the public.

Yes, we know. It also makes them unverifiable. Nobody knows who's saying what and why. This is why many articles combine unnamed sources with other named sources and supporting facts.

Again, it's not my job to blindly believe a journalist. It's the journalists job to sell a story.

People will put their heads in the sand no matter how many sources.

Whatever, I don't care enough to argue.

The game is already $20 on sale right now and was not a critical or commercial success.

I'm just going to say there are very legal reasons that BioWare can't do that. It's all about conduct as a publicly traded company and all that blah, blah, blah. I hate it but that's the reality.
