According to his other posts, no. It looks like a long rant about how Billy is an evil villain trying to ruin our lives. This is just getting weird. I can't take these forums seriously anymore. Oh come on, don't go. Some of us have cookies. Not me, but some of us. "Y'know, I am a little peckish though." Says Caroll. "Sten?"

I've recorded some clips today and put them together. The games were played on 3 different hosts and I only included the most obvious occurences of the "headshots not registering" issue. wavebend you can it to the OP if you like. Also I gotta say, that Sweeper Siphon 2 I'm using in the video definitely made me stronger and allowed me to play on the higher difficulties. Had I not acquired that along with the Halberd Concussive and the Phalanx Bulwark, I'd probably still be playing on Bronze. Thank you devs, you know exactly what the players and the game need! My Asari duelist 17 paired with Carnifex Concussive and Sandstorm bulwark - ammo capacity booster and targeting vi laughs at your set up

Maybe we needed to be more specific and tell Billy headshot "damage." Maybe? Or maybe we need to ask him to help us understand his test rig? For example, we do not know how the frostbite engine works, but let's imagine it is bad, and uses multiple parallel tcp connections. Let's also imagine that his test rig was some fancy setup which introduced a constant 300 ms ping (but no packet loss). Frostbite would work perfectly in this setup (other than 0.3 seconds lag). But if you start introducing maybe 3% packet loss, all of a sudden those tcp connections would start adapting - they are designed to back off when there's traffic congestion, but how much they back off is random (because that is what you need to avoid congestion problems). So one connection would wind up being slower than another - possibly by a lot. Now let's imagine that different kinds of information go on different tcp connections - so maybe attacks are on one and head locations are on another. Or, whatever... Anyways, the point is that the details of how he tested and the details of how the engine works are related... (the above was just some guesses, since we literally do not know -- except that we can see how it sometimes plays out). Edit: and it's not just that - there's also the whole thing where you have like four different machines and they can only have rough agreement on where things are and what's being shot, and how that gets represented to the players *is* the gameplay.

Or I mean you could tell the motherfucker to take an Xbox/Ps4/PC at home and play. Sometimes test setups are too sterile to reproduce something users are seeing. Sometimes they're seeing a bug that's introduced by some crazy other thing that shouldn't even have anything to do with the function you're testing.
You could also just watch gameplay videos people are submitting. Listen and believe, etc. As it is now the feeling is that they're just denying it exists.

Castoreum isn't really in any flavorings these days, it's mostly used in perfumes and other scents. Only a couple hundred pounds of it are produced annually vs millions of pounds of other vanilla flavorings. www.snopes.com/food/ingredient/castoreum.asp

... I haven't followed every part of the 'off-host headshots' discussion, but it does concern me what a thread gets all 'angry' (instead of an 'ok, let's show you the issue') over what someone has said. I think that distances BioWare and the community instead of finding a way for the two to communicate. (granted, the dearth of communication channels doesn't help) The issues should be obviously decided by Cyonan and other admins/mod. However, you guys should note that IMHO nobody is really "angry" at Billy or Bioware in general. There is some accumulated frustration which is mostly due to the lack of communication and absolutely inadequate attempts at repelling very strong evidence through feedback from community. Exactly same thing happened with DAIMP key glitch whose mere existence was denied due to inability to reproduce it, if you remember that. It all was resolved eventually through a very constructive approach. BW opened beta-patch tests, Luke was quite engaging, and other concessions were made by BW. Then, out of a sudden, this was completely cut off, and DAIMP died shortly after that, but IMO, these were good times with a lot of people returning to the game, it was a fair attempt at revival which could have actually worked. Too bad it was cut off by somebody in the management. Obviously, community plays a certain and rather important role in longevity of the game and retention of players. So, calmly dismissing anything that comes from actual players by trying to deny the obvious and closing accounts that have a potential to some meaningful contribution might not be such a good idea, either from consumer or developer point of view. This is really puzzling as it has no rationale. And yes, you can blame that on "toxic" or "angry" community, that is easy and can be done regardless of actual level of "toxicity" and "anger". While continuing constructive conversation takes effort, tact, attention, and mental stability. And it has nothing in common with blunt desire of some developers to get more attention and praise from their fanbase. However, rational people, who are a clear majority here and mostly on reddit as well, won't give blind praise for something bad but would appreciate fixing things and meaningful acknowledgement of their feedback. Billy gave none of these things and I'm pretty sure that this is a dead end of any communication attempts unless his understanding of the process changes which is highly unlikely based on DAIMP and MEA experience over the course of quite a few years already.

I think the headshots in MEAMP is actually working correctly on an ideal scenario . As far as I can say it works fairly well when the lag is minimal. But when lag is present, the engine runs into an issue.
Suppose we have a lag of 200ms. That would mean whatever you are seeing on your screen is actually 200ms into the past. So if we see a Raider at a specific location, it does not mean he is still there. Then we take some time to aim our cross hairs on his head. Then we shoot (click). Now this click event has to travel all the way to the host. This adds another 200 ms. So the Raider had 400ms to move around by the time your gun shot is processed.
This is something we cannot avoid in a PvP game.
But in a CoOp game, we can do some 'cheats'. For instance instead of processing the gun shot at the server (host), we could do it at the client machine itself and send to the server where exactly the shot hit (the result of a hitscan including the hit location, bone that was hit, etc...). This would allow us to reduce the delay caused by lag to 200ms (instead of 400ms). This however is only possible in CoOp. In a PvP game, this would lead to a lot of problems including cheating.
I am not sure but it feels like ME3MP does this instead of simply sending raw inputs to the server.

Before we open our mouths and start bitching from a loosely paraphrased explanation. Why don't we first think. Or stop taking things so seriously. The guy just said he hadn't run into the problem himself yet we have to raise the mob with pitch forks. If you come at me disrespectfully and claiming a false narrative in relation to me, you're damn right I'm going to throw it back at you or not want to even open dialogue with an angry person at all.
BUT
When you approach with the non aggressive principal in mind to offer your arguments or disagreements, then you'll be far more likely to get a direct response. Enough with the mob mentality and unconstructive criticism. Yes the game has many flaws, quite a few of which were introduced with 1.09, but lets not be overly abusive in verbiage. Got a problem with the game? "Hey Billy, you may not have had that issue but quite a few of us in the community on multiple platforms have. Here's an example..." No need to cuss the team out straight out of the gate. Not a big fan of the game? Leave your criticisms of it with a constructive tone in mind. So put out your torches and shove your pitchforks back in the proverbial barn. Calm down. With a clear mind and rational thought, you can and will get better results.

Wow, just read the whole thread. Not that I previously had even slightest inclination to take anything that Billy says seriously. But now, even a simple thought about that just makes me laugh. IDK how he managed to get his producer job. And he's being plain rude to those who actually pay his paycheck, the customers and users of his so-called product. And deleting the reddit account, it is such a nice touch. Game developers are seldom good community managers. That's why Biower used to have people on the payroll to do that. Maybe it would have come in handy when the whole internet was posting gifs and laughing at them, too.

He didn't just say that though, did he? He's questioned the quality of people's internet connections as well as flat out stated they pretty much dismiss any claims of bugs with references to "netcode" in a particularly condescending tone. That's the problem. I also don't recall any pitchforks in this thread, unless I'm misremembering. I actually think it's been quite civil considering.
