In EA’s financials, Mass Effect: Andromeda is held up as the title that drove the company’s financials last quarter, referenced multiple times as a significant factor in generating revenue. "Year-on-year growth was driven by the Mass Effect: Andromeda sales, captured in the quarter and by FIFA,” CFO Blake Jorgensen explains. “Digital net sales were $681 million, a new record for the first quarter, and up $113 million on the year-ago period. The increase reflects strength in live services, together with our mobile business. In addition, Mass Effect: Andromeda was a significant contributor. Full game PC and console downloads generated net sales of $111 million, 32% higher than last year. This was driven by Mass Effect: Andromeda sales captured in the quarter.” That’s three mentions of the RPG having a big sales impact on the business. While it’s difficult to tell if the game is a financial success, EA certainly seem to be suggesting as much. It’s more surprising that BioWare Montreal have been put on ice after release, then. www.pcgamesn.com/mass-effect-andromeda/mass-effect-andromeda-sales-numbers

People are only getting riled up because of Bioware's silence regarding DLC, that's it. If we knew one way or another that ME:A has a future, arguments in threads wouldn't be quite so easy to start.
On the topic at hand, it's awesome that the game has been successful.

It seems odd that if EA is actually happy with how much money ME:A made that BioWare Montreal was essentially cut down and turned into a support studio, which puts the future of Mass Effect in question for the time being.

It’s more surprising that BioWare Montreal have been put on ice after release, then. What's more surprising is how many people believe that when absolutely no evidence points to it at all.

That was from the article I linked. Nothing that I posted was from me. I just posted a huge part of the article then dropped the link in there.

It seems odd that if EA is actually happy with how much money ME:A made that BioWare Montreal was essentially cut down and turned into a support studio, which puts the future of Mass Effect in question for the time being. It wasn't cut down, it was moved into a new studio space. This is from yesterday's transcripts posted in another thread (credit to Heimdall for providing the hot take); Q: I was wondering, can you tease out what you mentioned earlier on the step-up in OpEx maybe on the R&D side with the new genres. And perhaps how much of the increase is more a timing issue versus a higher run rate for R&D? A: So we will have a slightly higher run rate for R&D. We're building out a new studio in Montréal, as we've told everyone. And we've hired over 100 people into that studio that are brand-new to EA. This is to build the new IP around Jade Raymond's team that she's been building. I was in that studio last month. And it's a wonderful new addition to our team. And we brought our BioWare Montréal team into that same facility. So they now all sit in one new studio together. We're obviously investing in Anthem, which everyone got a chance to see at E3. That's out of the BioWare Edmonton team and are very excited -- they're very excited. We'll see some increases around that in terms of spending. And then we're continuing to invest across all of our network and platform activities. I don't see any of those going beyond the targets that we've talked about, trying to keep R&D expense in the 21% to 22% of revenue range, but it is -- the goal is to drive new revenue. And if for some reason we weren't able to drive new revenue, clearly, that would be overspending, but we're very confident that we can drive new revenue around the action genre and continuing live service build-out across all of our products.

Potentially. They were originally a support studio anyway, and it seems like that happens after a game launch anyway, as DLC and patches take less people than an entire development team. Also, with the delay of Anthem and the fact that Battlefront II NEEDS to be released at a certain time to coincide with the new Star Wars movie, it makes sense to prioritize games already in development with tight deadlines. It's a smart business decision, as MEA2 hasn't been announced even and likely would have a very loose launch date.

The claim that the series/studio is "on ice" came from a pandering clickbait hack who misrepresented a standard industry practice as a sign of doom just to get clicks from people who want BioWare to die.
Given that we have actual evidence that the game did well and was not a failure, unlike what said pandering clickbait hack wants people to believe, is a good reason to not lend any credibility to pandering clickbait.

If the game was a financial success then they would be getting ready for MEA 2 and many DLC’s but I don’t see any evidence for this.
Let’s just say the game made enough money to cover the cost with some left over. I think that is the best they will get from me.

They've already said how successful it is financially, it really upped the percentages for them. And they've been adding content in the form of new MP content, new guns and a new romance path all via free patches. Do I expect DLC on the quantity of ME2 or Inquisition? No. Do I expect we're getting a piece or two of DLC? Yes!

The future of Mass Effect isn't in question just because they're not working on the sequel right this second, unlike what a clickbait-peddling hack wants to con people into believing. The obvious conclusion is that BioWare Montreal staff are needed to support Andromeda post-launch as well as help with Anthem and Battlefront II. Anyone pretending standard industry practice of staff being moved to other projects after a game's launch is a bad sign is trying to mislead people.

As I understand, Andromeda only increased EA's revenue compared to the same period last year, which didn't saw any major release. That says nothing if the game managed to meet expectations.

This article says literally nothing to contradict MEA being a success. It compares the number of times that it was mentioned to Battlefield 1 (which has announced DLC and is, honestly, a much bigger deal to EA than the entire Mass Effect franchise) and FIFA, which makes EA more money than God. This isn't so much an article of facts as it is someone comparing things that are incomparable for the sake of their own narrative. There were other articles, like the PC Gamer one, which took the exact same information and came to the opposite conclusion. So, in any case, the interpretation of the data is apparently inconclusive, but we'll have to take EA at its word since, again, it can't lie to investors, and say that MEA was a huge contributor to the growth of several areas of income. I saw this article this morning and was wondering when someone would cite it as truth.

It's potentially a bad sign for those who were wanting another Mass Effect game in the near future, because without the studio that was making it we're not going to see work on one even begin until Montreal has been brought out of a support role. We're looking at 3-5 years before release once they actually start working on it. Also while it's standard to shift staff around after a launch, it's not as standard to shift the focus of an entire studio when they're coming off a game you're saying was a financial success.

See here, because I can't be bothered to reiterate the same thing over and over for people who either have absolutely no reading comprehension or are knowingly lying through their teeth. Seems like with the survey, they're trying to figure out what went wrong to learn from it. There is no reason they would mention unannounced DLC or a future sequel in upcoming releases, the past pattern has involved very little preamble before DLC release, so I don't think that means much. They are probably trying to figure out what went wrong though and I imagine the need for a large amount of patches delayed their DLC plans if there are any.
