Look, with threads like these and the constant infighting, you're not making playing BioWare games fun. Knock. It. Off. In my more than five years of (sometimes sporadic) BSN participation, I have never known a time when constant infighting was not the dominant mode of discourse.

Don't forget the comments of people, not on BSN boards mind you, who basically say stuff among the lines of, "WAAAH I HATE BIOWARE FOR MAKING THIS INSULT TO GOD I HOPE THEY FUCKING DIE IN A FIRE!" Imagine that freakout by Adam in Arby n the Chief, and you get yourself a good idea of how I feel about some people on the internet. Side note: Restructuring would HOPEFULLY not mean the cancellation of DLC. Didn't Mass Effect Andromeda do well sales wise? Yes it did.

I'm not a Merger's and Acquisitions expert and I have no intention of being one, but I decided to ask around to see what happens to two companies during a merger. It seems like a few things could happen: 1. EA Motive remains. 2. Bioware Montreal Remains. 3. Both companies remain 4. They merge together but get a new name for the whole studio. (This is just what I got so far, I still need to do some more research) This isn't an M&A situation since both studios are wholly owned subsidiaries of EA. Besides, it looks as if they didn't close BioWare Montreal, it's management staff appears to still be in place for now, but did move all of it's development staff to Motive, which would be something akin to a department transfer. Truly, this is some weird ass corporate shit going on. Motive, as a studio, is now fucking huge.

Keep in mind that M&A is a broad topic and covers this BWM-EAM merger, more accurately horizontal integration. We both agree that both studios are EA's wholly owned subsidiaries of. All three maintain their own separate books though they are consolidated in a financial statement at the end of the fiscal year. EA will treat this as an inter-company [lateral] transaction to keep all books balanced. Right now, EA is probably looking at job redundancies, job titles, contracts and liabilities, and whole lot of other stuff. There may be some lay offs and potential contract breaches. For example, both companies might have creative directors but they might only need one post-merger; someone will have to be reassigned, dismissed, etc. Basically, lawyers, accountants, and managers are reviewing documents looking for potential conflicts.

The more I read about mergers and moves like we're discussing here, the more it seems that this has absolutely nothing to do with Andromeda.

In my more than five years of (sometimes sporadic) BSN participation, I have never known a time when constant infighting was not the dominant mode of discourse. Five years? I've been on the BioWare forums back in the hella old days of ME1 around 2007. Trust me, the discourse has not evolved much since.

Anyone who thinks this forum is too negative and biased against BioWare and so on has clearly not been around for very long. I started on BSN just after ME3, imagine if you will the carnage.

Anyone who thinks the BSN is upset with ME:A should have seen it on March 6th 2012. Dozens of threads about the endings were created every second. I don't think I have ever seen a forum move that fast or that angrily.

Truth be told I thought BSN was the biggest source of negativity. I'll admit I've been wrong before and I've been wrong about BSN. (At least how it is now)

This isn't an M&A situation since both studios are wholly owned subsidiaries of EA. I don't delve into corporate shit. So it's outside my area of expertise. Regardless, if they were working on DLC, this shouldn't stop them. Hopefully. Yeah, I used to be neck deep in corporate shit. Actually, partnership shit but it's all pretty much the same. Big accounting firms work much like a big corp. Was involved in an M&A, but that was two firms merging with each other so the scenario was a tad different than this. I doubt Motive is working on ME:A DLC, especially since they have to launch SW:BF2 in the Fall. EA seems to be pinning some hope on that launch boosting their Q3. My thought is that the ME IP is back in Edmonton, but they could be working on DLC there. It's a waiting game at this point. It's all we can do.

You really are clueless...MEA hade better staying power than ME3 and DAI, opened better than ME2 according to NPD. Opened bettter than DAI according VGchartz. So why hasnt EA announced that MEA sales were an improvement over DAI? Or if it broke DAIs records? These arent details EA just stays mute on. "So it represents a fan base that's very passionate, looking for very particular things and many players found exactly what they're looking for and some players did not. With that said, we believe Mass Effect: Andromeda delivers a rich, deep experience, which celebrate what makes the franchise great: wonderful, beautiful, deep, rich world, amazing combat and engaging fast-paced multiplayer." "We're very happy with how Bioware is doing, how Bioware is treating Mass Effect. And our expectations for Mass Effect are still strong for the future and the franchise overall.” "And our expectations for Mass Effect are still strong for the future and the franchise overall." "We’re very happy with Bioware. Bioware has continued to support Mass Effect, and the new team is doing some amazing things, and you'll hear more about that in the months to come.” "We expect Q1 net sales to be $750million, up 10% year on year, driven by Mass Effect Andromeda, Battlefield 1 and Ultimate Team."
"Net sales for the quarter were $ 775 million, up $ 93 million on the prior year, and $ 25 million above our guidance. ... Year on year growth was driven by the Mass Effect: Andromeda sales captured in the quarter and by FIFA.""Digital net sales were $ 681 million, a new record for the first quarter, and up $ 113 million on the year ago period. The increase reflects strength in live services, together with our Mobile business. In addition, Mass Effect: Andromeda was a significant contributor. Digital sales now represent 63% of our business on a trailing twelve month basis compared to 56% in the prior year." "Full game PC and console downloads generated net sales of $111 million, 32% higher than last year. This was driven by Mass Effect: Andromeda sales captured in the quarter." Clearly voices of disappointment and mutism. Now as far as how many units were actually sold we don't know since EA isn't telling. You did however refer to a poster using above mentioned sources as proof of MEA bombing. I'm merely looking at those sources and what they actually tell us is that MEA did do as good or bad as all other Bioware games have done from ME2 and forward at least. The quotes above are all Andrew Wilson and Blake Jorgensen. Especially note the bolded wherein they got 25 million dollars more than expected - driven by MEA. But I'm sure you will ignore all this and in five minutes post again how all "proof" points to MEA bombing.

My impression is that only part of Bioware Montreal was being moved by that time, and a part remained to work on Andromeda content (patches and online). And even if we assume he chose his words badly, it was soon changed to "scaled down". Honestly, I find that dismissing his credibility just because for 10 minutes the title of his article might have been misleading for some is an huge exaggeration. You're not getting it. 'Scaled Down' does not in any way accurately describe being merged into another studio which is itself being expanded. And given that it's a second attempt, it's unlikely it was a genuine mistake on his part. As for dismissing his credibility - I don't really get why you're being so dramatic. I'm simply questioning his account because it doesn't match what's actually happening, at least not in the way he described. I don't know what's so difficult to grasp about that. I would have thought the need to be clear about where info is coming from would be self-evident after the Sinclair thing.

I'm simply questioning his account because it doesn't match what's actually happening, at least not in the way he described. But it does. He said people were leaving Montreal's office (thus reducing it in size) to work at a new office for EA Motive in another project. That is not wrong in any way, nor contradicts anything said by EA. Basically he only left the word "merging" out, but said the same thing. At best you can say his info was incomplet, but I'd say that's already nitpicking.
