Bioware is only a stamp at this point. EA absorbed them years ago. Any Bioware developer is an EA employee, so shuffling devs from one imprint to another is just par for the course. Once EA bought out Bioware, it ceased to truly exist.

BW Montreal isn't going to "move back" or something. EA moved BW into new studio space. As was stated; "We're building out a new studio in Montréal, as we've told everyone...And we brought our BioWare Montréal team into that same facility. So they now all sit in one new studio together." BW Montreal is where they are. New studio space.

EA/BW is in the business to make money. DLC = money. Naughty Dog: a smaller studio by comparison worked on The Last of Us and Uncharted 3 at the same time as well. Sure, Naughty Dog makes liner action games compared to RPG's, but the point I'm making is that one studio made two high quality games at the same time. So, with that logic, Edmonton or Austin (there just working on Star Wars expansions, right?) could easily, easily work on dlc--that would require less time/resources to make.

I can't take him seriously because he actually thinks that merging two studios owned by EA would constitute a Mergers & Acquisition situation. That's incredibly, hilariously wrong. Big talk to try to look like he knows what he's saying. Just another hater spinning their lies and assumptions hoping they are right. So much crow to be eaten. That day is coming. So... its worth pointing out that a legitimate scenario for why no DLC makes it to our screens (that doesn't require Schroedinger's Studio to be a thing) is actually because they simply don't have a team available to do it. As I understand it, each Bioware studio has a development focus at the moment that isn't regarding Mass Effect. Of course you don't need a development focus to do DLC, particularly one that has had dev during the main game dev. Just keep in mind that regardless of what we've heard, DLC still hasn't been announced and there's always the possibility it may never arrive.

I don't think the absorbed one is. I thought it was answered by someone in the financial Q&A that they hired another 100 people to work with someone specific and moved montreal into another building or something like that. I'm a little fuzzy on specifics. Doing a SHIELD marathon today.

Is this story based on any 'actual facts'? I'm seeing the story of BioWare Montreal getting absorbed tweeted around, and I still don't see any 'facts' to support it... It's based on someone repeating a small part of a statement the CFO made during the Q&A. Here's the full CFO statement; Q: I was wondering, can you tease out what you mentioned earlier on the step-up in OpEx maybe on the R&D side with the new genres. And perhaps how much of the increase is more a timing issue versus a higher run rate for R&D? A: So we will have a slightly higher run rate for R&D. We're building out a new studio in Montréal, as we've told everyone. And we've hired over 100 people into that studio that are brand-new to EA. This is to build the new IP around Jade Raymond's team that she's been building. I was in that studio last month. And it's a wonderful new addition to our team. And we brought our BioWare Montréal team into that same facility. So they now all sit in one new studio together. We're obviously investing in Anthem, which everyone got a chance to see at E3. That's out of the BioWare Edmonton team and are very excited -- they're very excited. We'll see some increases around that in terms of spending. And then we're continuing to invest across all of our network and platform activities. I don't see any of those going beyond the targets that we've talked about, trying to keep R&D expense in the 21% to 22% of revenue range, but it is -- the goal is to drive new revenue. And if for some reason we weren't able to drive new revenue, clearly, that would be overspending, but we're very confident that we can drive new revenue around the action genre and continuing live service build-out across all of our products.

Only Trespasser was/is an 'epilogue' DLC, the others in MET and DA franchises are all able to be played during the main quest lines in the games IIRC. What if . . . What if BW thought that the game would do better with a Trespasser style expansion, not in-game DLC? The dangling threads are all post-game material, Quarian Ark, Benefactor etc. and totally have to wait until the main quest is finished. So maybe we all thought wrong about this and what we're really looking at here is a (possibly) longer wait for a ginormous expansion dealing with all 3 arcs in a major expansion. (Hopefully)
