Hey, guys. I know JRandall recently tried to do a positive MEAMP thread to tweet to the devs and it got shat on. That could happen here, too, I suppose, but I'd like to ask that you not. Please. And here's why... If you love ME3MP, then today's news affects you - BioWare lost, very suddenly and unexpectedly, one of the lead gameplay designers of Anthem... Corey Gaspur. You should care because he played a huge role in creating and maintaining ME3MP. The other devs describe ME3MP as his "baby", and the love he poured into it obviously shows since so many of us are still playing it... even choosing it over MEAMP because of how much damn fun ME3MP is. I would like to honor his memory here tonight by having us share the parts of ME3MP we love the most. The fun memories we have of playing it. The moments of joy it has brought. And I'd like to tweet this thread to the devs, as a way for the fans to hold a candle of thanks and remembrance to a man who helped make a gameplay mode we still cherish today. I'll start. For all the warts and issues ME3MP had - just as any game does - it remains my absolute favorite online game ever. The combat, especially... there was something very solid and real and fun about it. You could FEEL the fire explosions... the Krogan headbutts... the Turian heavy melee chest bump... the Batarian hate-surfing. SO many moments of pure fun and joy, moments where you'd occasionally say "wow" or laugh out loud because it was just. Damn. FUN. Thank you, Corey, for your spectacular work. It will be heavily missed in BioWare's future products. Thoughts go out to your friends, family, and colleagues. Death sucks. Fuck you, death.

I'm so sorry to hear this news. I still love ME3MP after 3000+ hours and 10,000+ matches. It taught me that playing online with strangers could be really fun and that it's great to make new gaming buddies from all over the world. I can now scream for help in broken Russian and thank people for picking me up in multiple languages. One of my favorite memories was entering a silver match with a level one character. The others in the lobby didn't ready up immediately, and I thought "oh, they must be debating whether to kick me." To my surprise and delight they all silently switched to level one characters and we had a great time pew-pew-ing with our baby powers on Reactor. This game has given me many warm and fuzzy moments and introduced me to a great gaming community. You guys have always been there to help me, whether it was dragging me to Silver dificulty, helping me finish platinum map mastery or coaching me through my one and only platinum solo. I'm grateful for that. Thank you, Corey Gaspur! Your game has made a difference in many peoples' lives, including mine.

That's shit. He's partly responsible for me giving up the drink. (Not that I had a problem) Enjoyed playing ME3 MP more than getting pissed at the weekend

Rest easy Corey Gasper... Aside from the birth of my children, there is little that has excited me in life as much as coming home on Friday to a new weekend challenge. Back in me3 heyday they were all the rave and this game has allowed me to meet and make tons of friends I otherwise would've never met. Thanks Corey

RIP Corey. 😔
You helped create one of the best games out there, the game that got me into playing online. I still can't put it down. Not only has it given me well over 1500h of fun, it's brought me some great friends from all over. There is something very special about this MP.
Sending everyone at Bioware my condolences.

Yeah... death sucks... and I learned that the hard way. I hope that Corey is at peace now.
Despite that I was very disappointed with singleplayer campaign, I managed to accept it despite its flaws. I started my multiplayer career only a year ago and I fell in love with it immediately. It's the very first mp mode I've tried and I wish I had been more open minded back in 2012. I met a lot of incredible people, had tons of fun playing with them and I wouldn't change a thing. I will always have beautiful memories, even after another 20 years, when mp is long gone.
Thank you Corey and I hope you can see how your "baby" still gives a lot of joy for many people.

Entertaining people is a powerful gift - I am grateful for one of the best games I ever played, that he helped creating. Corey, you will be remembered.

I just don't know what to say.He was so young. He had a big role in my all time favorite game Mass Effect 2 (in my opinion the best ME world, despite the great atmosphere in ME1) and he brought me online. No,ME 3 is not my first multi game, but no doubts here,it is my favorite. Before ME3 i was a SP boy and i had around 1000 hours in multiplayer(i mean all games i've ever played and they are like milion, because i have 25 yers of experience) and in ME3 i have over 4600 hours. That says it all.He also had role in one of the best RPGs-DAO.His work was amazzing. As for my favorite moment,i can't choose only one. There were many great memories. There is something very special about ME3 multi.Through ME3 i found many friends, all cool guys and gals on my FR and on BSN.Rest in Peace Corey, your games make the people happier.

I'm sorry to hear of Corey Gaspur's passing. Sadly, it is a transition that we all must make eventually. My condolences to BioWare and his family.
Choosing a single favorite moment in ME3MP will be kind of hard - 3161H 21M 22S and 11684 games played. I've racked up 161,358,910 credits (currently). Maxing my manifest was certainly a good day, but it made me realize that getting there was most (if not all) of the fun. I started this ME3MP with the demo, and have been hooked ever since. I've met many good friends through ME3MP. In short, ME3 MP has impacted my life - I'd say in a positive and very fun way.
Rather than choose a favorite moment I'll choose all of the moments and cherish them.

Wow! I wonder what happened. He seemed like a really nice guy who loved this game. I am saddened by this news. I wish peace for his family and loved ones. The sun will rise again tomorrow.
What I enjoyed most about this game was the developers were part of the community. They answered questions daily and commented in other's posts, and many times in a humorous way. It seemed like most of them were enjoying being part of the community, not just as a requirement of their job to be on bsn. I mean, come on! They made a public bet that involved a guy eating a hat! Lol!
It was interesting to get a daily "insider's look" at how a game progresses over time. Plus, everyone got to know a little bit about these people on a personal level. That's my favorite part of this experience. An experience that I'll remember the rest of my life.
Oh... and Krogans. Bad Ass Mother Fuckin' Krogans.

That sucks and my condolences go out to his friends and family. Hats off to my second favorite MP ever (my 1B to Halo 2's 1A). I've put in over 1000 hours and I'm still not tired of the game at all and don't see that changing any time soon. I was hooked from my first attempts as a solo player before finally jumping into a Bronze public match where the game just got better. Even though there are still some bugs and some broken powers/guns, they nailed this MP. I started long after the final balance changes and didn't get a chance to do the weekend challenges, but this game is still awesome and I appreciate the work he put in to make this awesome game. The fact that there's new players and old vets still playing is great and shows how well they did. My favorite part is still headshotting things with the Claymore. That BOOM followed by the nice cracking sound and body going limp is just too sweet.

A themed match (or mini series of two or three) of some sort, and we could post the screenshots here? Or we could pick one of the challenges from the challenge thread? Just an idea... (Just don't make me solo)

Not as tiring as a solo, but still a bit of challenge and you get the satisfying closure of teamwork.

Now cracks a noble heart - Goodnight Corey Gaspur. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest! I started mp once I realized that I was playing the SP purely for the fights, finding that the narrative was getting in the way of my enjoyment of the game; I also wanted to try all the sweet-looking dlc guns (that I was not going to pay for), and especially all the cool-looking characters. I waited too long to enjoy the weekend challenges (not to mention the buff/nerf wars), and I bitterly regret it now. What hooked me, and still keeps me playing, is how everything has its own place in the game, how all this variation is more or less balanced (you can laugh here if you want, I will understand), so that there are countless ways to go through a game. Most kits and most weapons have a unique feeling, from their effectiveness, to their look and sound, to how they handle. Most of the difficulty comes not from bullet sponge enemies, but from wave compositions that actually attempt to pose strategic problems - the fact that the AI will always attempt to send some units to flank you is such a simple, yet elegant solution to keep you on your toes; the combined arms approach of different units either pounding you into cover or coming over to dislodge you adds another layer of decisions that need to made; the fact that by now most of us know how to navigate the map to defuse most of the challenges posed by the game does not detract from its design in my opinion. Rather, the fact we are still here playing this game shows just how engaging it is! I can say I have never enjoyed a game as much as this one! I want to believe the recipe that was created here will help shape future games for the best, and that Corey Gaspur will be remembered as a trail-blazer, whose influence will be felt for a long time in the future of this industry - a thought Bioware seemed to share, given his prominent position in the development of their latest game! In the end, I want to drop two gems here: in these very early videos, you can hear Corey Gaspur's (and Eric Fagnan's) take on the enemy factions and players' classes. Some of it is cutely outdated (Cerberus does not push you - the good old pre-dragoon days), and in some cases the meta-strategy has evolved to contradict their expectations, but the videos offer interesting insights in the goals behind how the multiplayer was designed.

Rest in peace, Corey Gaspur. Death sucks. That's all I can say. Since it seems he had a lot to do with the Turian Havoc, one of the most fun and glorious kits in the game, I will definitely play only that Turian next time I fire up ME3.

thx for the best mp experience ever Corey Gaspur. I think we can safely say ME3 MP made and makes gaming history. What s huge for me is i can still try new things 5 years later ! And i think the new thing i ll try next is Havoc/melee doiuble strike, pretty sure i never tried that once i settled for claymore

My sincere condolences to his family and to all the people who knew him personally. I'm not sure how to express my love for his "baby"... well, maybe the time I've played it so far will show it the best : 4336 hours... and I don't plan to retire. I'm playing ME3 MP since 2012 and I think I've never spent more than one month without firing up the game... I can also say that this is also the only game I haven't played "casually", trying to learn everything about the mechanisms, testing all the possible builds, doing some calculations on an excel file like a true nerd , spending countless hours soloing and getting infeasible devices wave 10... before retrying it the day after and getting targets with one missile left . In other words ME3 MP is the only game I've really wanted to be good at and challenged myself about... I think it tells a lot about its quality. Corey died too young obviously. But during his time on Earth, he created something that contributed to make people meet each other and happier. It's the only thing that really matters in life. Where he is now, he can be proud of himself. RIP Corey.

Hey Folks! Long time, no talk. I have been away from the dev scene for some time now but, given the circumstances I just wanted to thank you all for the wonderful memorial you are doing for a great friend and former colleague. I had the distinct pleasure of knowing Corey back when ME3MP was first being developed. He was a visionary. He also wanted to make it look and feel solid. We would sit for hours talking about my military experience and his experiences in the games industry. Later, I got to return as part of the Live Team and help with the weekly events, balance changes, and DLC. When Corey mentioned his idea for a Turian soldier that would freeze opponents then charge them, effectively shattering them, I said, we gotta name him the "Havoc." Corey said, "That is a cool and appropriate name." And it became so. Corey was like that. Always listened seriously to any feedback and loved making the team and fanbase happy. He loved that you folks loved the game. I will miss him greatly, as will many others whose lives he touched. Thank you for being part of his life and mine. Cheers!
