We're not talking just western countries but eastern countries as well. And why should religion not be a factor in determining beauty? Because the majority of people playing Mass Effect are from the west. It's not exactly climbing up the sales charts in Asia or Russia. Religion is a cancer and it's only effect on beauty would be in how it marginalizes women. That kind of "beauty" I can live without. Because you don't like religion that means it's a primative view. Regardless of your opinion, men and women do use religion as a way to determine beauty.

The nations that play Mass Effect. I was unaware Asia and Russia were main fanbase hotbeds. There's a reason why main characters in video games from the west aren't Japanese, for example. Same goes for film and television. Apparently you're also unaware that people of those ethnicities also live in the nations where it sells well. Just fess up: the only people whose opinion you think matters are those who share yours. Everyone else you're excluding because you think their opinions are lesser than yours. You're trying to objectify your subjective view and force the world to suit you. I just laughed and laughed and laughed, as someone born in one of those two countries, lives in one of those other mentioned nations, whose ideals of beauty are strongly leaning towards the third mentioned being the most attractive version of humans.
I also enjoy the subtle irony of Poland making the list of compliance with Westernized countries apparent beauty standard, but not the Russians.
Finally, we are on a BioWARE forum here, the company of the West that made an entire game set in an Asian setting....

Many countries have different views on what's traditionally attractive. They also don't have electricity. On the bright side, those peasants will have darkness on their side.

Same goes for film and television. Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra are good examples of western animation, set in an Asiatic world and featuring an ethnically diverse cast. Granted it's not technically live action, but still, the main characters are clearly not depicted as being white or from western cultures. (The terrible movie adaptation was heavily criticised because fans hated that they went and whitewashed the main characters)

Please, feel free to give me an example of how religion promotes/determines beauty that's not archaic towards women. I do agree with you that men use it as a way to determine beauty. That's part of the problem.

You're trying to objectify your subjective view and force the world to suit you. Nope, I'm just not blind to how the world works. A game like Mass Effect aimed at predominantly Americans and Europeans, if it wants to maximize its appeal, should focus on what its players want. They got the sexy alien times right, they just got the faces wrong. Having no white skin tone option just layered on top of the problem. As did the majority of hideous presets. And Sara's face. And Cora's face/haircut. I get that there's different standards of beauty. Bioware just seems to be trying to hit as many demographics as they can, and as a result, they diluted the pool.

I see. Cora's haircut is not appealing across the continent of Europe, excluding the Russians, Sara's face cannot be customized to look as you want it, America is populated by albino and it is a really bad thing that BioWARE did not make all humans into clones like Asari?

I surmised that the countries that practice backward spirituality want their women dressed, while the liberated Westernized countries are into Ferengi-like progressive view that powerful women must show off their boobs to men without fear since the moment they were born till they die happy to prove they are real beautiful. Or they cut hair off warrior women in those backward religious countries without the benefit of the electric bulb making their faces unappealing to the poetic Westerners that all want them faces framed by a cascade of wavy hair reaching three inches past the collarbone at the least.

Yes. This debate is tedious.
Google Scholar (not regular Google) Universal Beauty Standards.
You'll find that DESPITE LOTS OF VARIATION, there are indeed general, universal beauty standards.
BTW. We should all use Google Scholar when checking controversial gender-related facts like this. Although science isn't perfect, it's all we've got.
Relying on Salon.com and Breitbart is just asking to be indoctrinated. (Although Salon is probably more reliable)

There's a reason that's cliche. It may be ridiculous to you, but consider the lowest common denominator. Consider how rich the Twilight author is.
