That's how YOU experienced the game. Cool. But do you think the lack of traditionally beautiful women in DAI primed a lot of MEN to hate on MAE? That's the question I'm asking. No. There may have been other reasons for the hate bashing of MEA. I do not think these were the prime ones at all. I think both you and your elephant are barking up the wrong tree. Other reasons for men to hate on MEA could be: - lack of imagination - lack of a life - daddy/mommy issues - poor social skills - desperate need for validation - need for feeling in control of something - no real girls in their life - picked on in school - testosterone imbalance Sadly, I am no expert on male aggression. I would suggest consulting a psychology textbook. You forgot -being lamergaters who were butthurt over their being gay male options in the game

Regarding the example of Yennefer... you know she's wearing a glamour right? She used to be a hunchback before she became a sorceress. Not sure if the games ever mention this detail, but it is canon in the books. She still is a hunchback, underneath the glamour. She's also 90+ years old. Try picturing that during the unicorn scene ... Which is why all this worship of the sexiness of Yennefer is so deliciously subversive and ironic. I think Bioware could get behind a character that looked like Yennefer, if she had Yennefer's canon background from the books. IT'S. ALL. AN. ILLUSION. On more than one level ...

No. Like many other sorceresses, she physically altered herself over the years using magic and genetic manipulation. Same with the slowed aging.

I'm surprised to see this thread, but it goes to show that beauty standards are really different in different parts of the world
I thought most of the cast of DAI was pretty attractive for both male and female characters.
As for MEA, Cora and Peebe are very good looking and Suvi is sexy AF, now the male characters though...
Don't get me wrong they have great personalities but they are hard on the eyes! Even Liam, who had a gorgeous face model looked better with the helmet on
Did that ruin the game? Not even a little! That has nothing to do with gameplay, story and character interaction
It didn't even ruin the romances, in the OT Garrus was one of the most popular romances and so was Liara and she's not even as good looking as Peebe
Now that I think about it, it's not the thread that surprises me, it's the fact that theres ppl all over the internet making a fuss over finding videogames characters unattractive

Who could, in all honesty, disagree that Yennefer is beautiful? Yeah.....I didn't find Yennifer appealing at all. I honestly didn't get her "attractiveness". think the main women of TW3 are beautiful. Might as well say Geralt is handsome. People see beauty differently . Geralt looked sharp - I'll give him that. Yennifer, sure someone can say she's "hot". I felt she was "meh". I'm not sure why...but she just wasn't appealing to me. Ciri is a lovely young woman, and Triss is also very lovely. To each their own.

There's not malice behind it though, it might just be a cultural thing in the US America means the US, in the rest of the world it means the American continent, at least we all agree that only ppl from US are called Americans. Also, really? attractiveness of pixelated aliens can be political? How so? I'm very curious now

Standard of beauty across the world is more similar than they are different, if every country pick out a pair of most beautiful man and woman, I highly doubt that I will find them unattractive.

Have you seen Blackwall with Beard removed? Maybe it's the contrast, lol. I was so distracted by Zu, I never really paid any attention to Sky. And it's a "no" on Corinne. It's just something in those female faces in Witcher that makes me go "ewww". Must be the makeup around the eyes, it scares me with that raccoon look. Just hungry and unpleasant. H That's the first time I've seen Blackwall beardless, he is better but no still yuck. Sky was cute, sweet little romance there. I keep planning to replay JE with Sky's romance, but so far I can't tear myself away from Andromeda. I do like the concept for Fenris more than what he ended up with.

Haven't played Jade in a long time, romanced Sky mostly and a few times the girls. I'll have to start a new one with Yu. Fenris I like his final looks of course but would have been fine with the concept art also. MEA - character create for Asians is good. I was surprised how well my Mayu came out- I tried to model her after an acquaintance and it was a pretty ok likeness. Yep, i literally did not even have to spend any time in creator with my first run, both my Tishujen and her Scott were easily created, and she looked just like I always wanted, that awesome dangerous and mysterious look. I also love my MP Adept, I called him Furious Ming, so it's almost like playing JE, heh. Anyway, I'm happy with how chars look and are dressed in Andromeda, both MP and SP, the happiest I have ever been in any game.

I would, for example according to studies the Japanese seem to find women that closely resemble the look of extremely petite baby faced teenage girls the most attractive. No offense to the Japanese, but thats pretty far off from what I consider attractive.

Lots of speculation from people who probably haven't traveled or lived in another culture. I can tell you from extensively traveling and working in other countries, that beauty is pretty much the same across all of them.
If you're attractive in one country, you're going to be attractive in the others. If you're ugly in one, you're still ugly in the others. There are slight variations on things like skin tones, but it's the same set of rules everywhere.

That person was ugly.

I believe there are certain general physical attributes that most humans across the globe consider attractive.
However, there is a great deal of variation between people and cultures. Once, a group of scientists tried to come up with a mathematical equation for attractiveness, but found it was impossible due to individual preference.
So, is beauty universal or cultural? Personally, I think it's both. As for the women in MEA, I find them average-looking. They're not exactly eye-candy, but they're not hosebeasts either.

Elephant in the room for whom? What an enviable problem to have.
If neither Cassandra, Sera, Josephine, Leliana, Vivienne, Cora, Peebee or Suvi is ridiculously attractive enough to you, I doubt anything will fit your standards.
If you really just mean eye candy, then no thanks. I am past my thirties. I've had those. Traded for one that excites me.

Several pages back someone posted images of an African culture where they elongate their skull and it is considered beautiful.

Cassandra is not ugly. She is masculine. Not what the AVERAGE (Jesus, how many times do I have to stress average, not all) hetero male gamer finds attractive.
