Didn't Inquisition only get those awards for that year was horrible for gaming? I always saw that being brought up when people were talking about that before. Wasn't that terrible. Larian published Divinity Original Sin for starters. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but a very good RPG. There were people surprised that year that Divinity didn't make GOTY. It's also one of the games, as opposed to DAI, where critics and gamers were in accord on metacritic. 87 by the industry and 86 by gamers.

I have no interest at all in Fallout or Civilization. I liked BG at the time, as well as Suikoden, but have no patience for or interest in JRPGs anymore. I would rate MEA as a 7.5 to 8 DAI as a 9 Witcher 3 as a 9.5

vonuberMostly difficulty and balance between classes. Beyond knight enchanter, it felt fairly solid. MEA feels a bit more cheesy, though that's just my impression. Of course, it has vanguard charge and is therefore the best, but that's not a fair standard to hold every game to.

Some people believed that it id overrated. I was one at launch. The Hinterlands can dull you down right away. Some of the areas suffered from the no banter issue and I literally stop playing to take a nap or just go to bed. It was at times tedious and a chore to play, but the DLC really did a great job to close the loose ends. I didn't think Inquisition earned GOTY with it's step-backward mouse-keyboard controls. It was more in line with Andromeda, but that's not what I had before in the previous engines. Also, I could get epic levels of abilities in each subclass turning my tank into a juggernaut and grabbing every baddie like a boss. The tactics are another step backwards. I used to fill the tactic slots up to match the role (Alistair: Off-tank, Mage-hunter; Oghren: DPS, ranged hunter; Sten: Off-tank, DPS; Shale: Main tank, regenerating and those are just tanks. DPS and Healing also had subclasses) and allowed me to basically participate in the battle instead of micro-managing everyone. Inquisition, I don't how many times I cursed out Iron Bull for deciding it's perfectly okay to charge into dragon fire. Very exasperating. I know the console people don't have those options, but that's too freakin' bad in my humble opinion. Interestingly I love the hinterlands - one of my favourite areas. I am on my 10th playthrough BTW so clearly I love the game! I do admit, I am now speeding through the dialogue LOL except with my LI Cassie! Just goes to show you how diverse our preferences can be!

Surprised about the price for DAI. As I said, watch gameplay videos to see if its something that would interest you. Or if a friend has a copy that you can borrow to play, that would help in deciding if you want the game or not. Well I bit the bullet. I think dlc included I spen about $80 for both. I'm gonna have some fun after MEA run #2. Enjoy

Inquisition was MUCH, MUCH better. Actually, ANY Bioware game is better than Andromeda (including Dragon Age 2)
It had fun battles (especially the dragons), some interesting characters (Blackwall kinda surprised me, I thought he was going to be the "mainstream Grey Warden hero", Iron Bull was cool, Solas and his view of the Fade (and his true identity) were really nice, Dorian was another good addition, and Varric was still fun. I liked the combat, they mixed the "tactical" from DA:O with the "fast pace" from DA2. The environment was absolutely beautiful and the puzzles were very interesting (especially those with the stars. Forgot the name.). Also, your choices can also choose the next Divine and how the Chantry would grow from there. But I expected the choices to have a bit more impact. Judging peole was pretty cool, though. Andromeda even copies the Inquisition perks.
I just really didn't like the ending. It was so anticlimatic. Instead of an epic final battle (like against the darkspawn and the Archdemon), the game just throws you agains the final boss and it's all over in like... 10 minutes. The DLC made it better.

I hardly call it a snooze when you have to outrun a purification field whenever you activate one but to each is own I guess. Which you knew beforehand and could do with one arm tied behind your back, since the game provides you with navpoints. The fields aren't that fast. They're just tedious and repetitive. Well, except for the couple where you have to work a jumping puzzle while escaping. But I don't think they're meant to be really challenging, The moment's supposed to be a payoff for solving the vault, not a major part of the vault's difficulty.

Love Andromeda but Inquisition is better... not really a negative though because no ge, except maybe Origins, can compete with Inquisition. So being just below the greatest of all time is nothing to be ashamed of.

Also when you've only got one hand on the controls like me because of my disability it's not that easy to do. I've often ended up at least dying 4 or 5 times every time I do them. I can and have done them but I don't find them easy tbh.

I think DA:I was a significantly better game for a variety of reasons.
But just to put up a few reasons,
1. the UI and crafting didn't have reaching for a knife to gouge out my eyes 2. the squadmates actually felt different and varied from each other with their own rivalries and interests 3. the storyline, while still not great, was better 4. Cory was better than the Archon 5. The smaller environment areas were much better. The temple of Dirthamen, the Well of Sorrows, and the Lost Oasis were gorgeous small environments and the DLCs also had great new ones. 6. They remembered that BioWare games are supposed to have choices in them 7. MUCH better boss fights and encounters which made up for Inquisition's lackluster gameplay 8. The classes and specializations all played uniquely and very differently from any other 9. The open world areas all told much more well contained stories with no trekking from system to system to finish one sidequest.

I've played both games multiple times and each has their virtues.
DA:I obviously has more consistent character development, more detailed lore to draw from as it was a continuation of two games prior, the animation was better, but I felt the side quests were more "fetchy" and the game's progression were too dependant on them. I collected all the shards, opened all the areas, explored til as much black was gone from the map as I could complete...i did everything you could possibly do and I enjoyed my time in Thedas. The pluses outweighed the minuses for me.
In terms of ME:A, I thought the Nomad was a better vehicle to move around the map than the DA:I mount, especially when fully upgraded, I like how you could complete the game in 40hrs if I wanted and follow the main quest lines strictly, I liked the combat and vertical movement the jet pack allowed.
If they combined the best features of both games it would be epic.
The only thing I would change for both is to limit the open world. I think maps and missions akin to Habitat 7 would be ideal as you would still get to shoot and move around the map without getting sidetracked

My take on DA:I is tainted by its DLC's ( esp. Trespasser) so it's unfair to compare considering MEA has yet to release one , or even better, two . There are things i prefer in DAI and others i prefer in MEA, some are equally good or annoying . Side quests drive me crazy in both, although while the conclusions of some in MEA cracked me up ( rewriting the code with the wackos on Kadara) , they never did in DAI. After DAI i was expecting more sophisticated graphics in MEA.. i was disappointed. I HATED DAI MP, while i just kind of dislike MEA MP , and still play it as i refused to play DAI MP after what, 4 runs or so. Closing rifts, destroying kett camps on your way somewhere, .. equally insignificant. piles of crappy weapons in DAI, tons of crappy weapons in MEA. annoying combat in DAI, fun combat in MEA - combinations of powers and weapons are more fun. ( using Pull while Cora freezes the shit out of a kett ). The story is another aspect... DAI in spite of all the fantasy BS is so much more cohesive. MEA would have been also had the writing set up a more dramatic tone from the start. ( i'm confident they will be more careful next time). to answer Chrome's question, i tend to favor DAI but i refuse to because i prefer space magic.

Not counting the DLCs, putting DAI and Andromeda side by side.
I prefer Dragon Age Inquisition and it is the better game. While there are meaningless side quests, the companions and characters have interesting / conflicting personalities and stories. The music is stirring, the game world is beautifully rendered. I'm one of those who don't take umbrage to some of the open barren wide spaces, Hissing Wastes, since they're meant to be barren. I take the time to appreciate the world as it is presented by its creators although I wish they had given more thought to cities. At times, it reminds me of the real world. The Hissing Wastes reminds me of my time on the sands of Egypt. I played this game numerous times, over 20 PTs. The lore is interesting and raises many questions. I am interested to find out more.
Andromeda. This game has some gems but it ended up being a boring aggravating ride for me. None of the characters caught my attention, the exception being Drack who reminded me of Wrex. Midway through the game, I had no personal desire to talk to any of the companions, I only wanted to get it all over and done with. I heard no notable music. Some parts of the game world is interesting; reminds me of D U N E, and that broken up rock was the most intriguing. I played this game once and it's enough, I'm not touching it again. I cannot reconcile the lore of this game to that of the Mass Effect Trilogy and thus, it is not part of the trilogy (for me). I have no interest in finding out what comes next for this game world.
