Didn't realize it's already been greenlighted for S2. That's good. Definitely - allows the writers/showrunners to properly plan some stuff. I think - and I could be getting stories mixed up here but - this, along with Lord of the Rings was renewed by Amazon early on - well before they even finished making season 1. I think they are already filming s2.
And apparently, it's even already renewed for season 3 and they are going to shoot seasons 2 and 3 back to back. www.moviesr.net/p-the-wheel-of-time-renewed-for-season-3-at-amazon-studios

That's great news, I'm invested now. Can't wait. The old school weekly episode thing is killed me though.

That's just not enough for one year! Yeah... 8 is really short. Especially for the adaptation of a massive series. I hope S2 will have more episodes and they were testing the waters. First seasons are often shorter. I used to love weekly theorizing on the internet. But with this show everyone but me knows the story so I need to avoid spoilers. Well, OK. My buddy told me a bunch of stuff about Egwene, Rand and Moiraine I'm not sure I wanted to know. Although most of it I find pleasing and got me excited. He just laughed and said it doesn't matter what exactly happens in the novels because they're going to change a lot and it's going to be its own thing. Lol. Fair enough.

I was told this: There's a big Trolloc fight coming up and that's when Rand will be revealed as the Dragon Reborn because he'll just kill them all. Eventually everyone will get scared of Rand. Everyone will try to fuck him over at some point, everyone but Moiraine who will have a really touching mother/son relationship with him. He remembers Moiraine as the most powerful Aes Sedai and the best female character by far, so that delighted me to hear.
Logain will redeem himself.
Egwene will be leashed and tortured for months by somebody named Lanfear and later she will see the bonding of warders as something wrong.
Rand will have several girlfriends and then two of his girlfriends will get together or something? Lol.
The problem with Rand as a character is how ridiculously powerful he is. And that kind of gets in the way of the narrative. The ending will be extremely happy? So I wasn't told a lot and I've already forgotten some of it... My friend read the novels 20 years ago and skipped some of them. So he just gave me some broad strokes outlines of some of the characters. It's all good.

For instance I didn't find Rand's power to be the limiting factor in his narrative. He was just a bland motivational poster for the plot for a while. After that he starts to become interesting not necessarily as himself, but because of the relationships he forms with those around him. He props up the characters around him by giving them screen-time and learning from them. Giving them exposition, basically.

Touching lightly. My opinions only, of course. They're big books, with a great deal of ambiguity about some stuff. There's a big Trolloc fight coming up and that's when Rand will be revealed as the Dragon Reborn because he'll just kill them all. Eventually everyone will get scared of Rand. Everyone will try to fuck him over at some point, everyone but Moiraine who will have a really touching mother/son relationship with him. Yeah - I this is a fair description of events. Even though he doesn't trust or appreciate her. He remembers Moiraine as the most powerful Aes Sedai and the best female character by far Ehhhh....at the start of the books, she was "one of" the strongest in the Tower. But by no means the strongest. That goes to someone not yet mentioned that Rand meets later on. If Moiraine is the 'mother he doesn't trust', this Aes Sedai is the 'grandmother he can't get rid of'. And even she pales in comparison with Nynaeve and others. Logain will redeem himself. Yeah. Yeah, I think so. He genuinely wanted to do good (and genuinely believed he was the Dragon Reborn). Egwene will be leashed and tortured for months by somebody named Lanfear and later she will see the bonding of warders as something wrong. This is partially true. Rand will have several girlfriends and then two of his girlfriends will get together or something? As discussed.... The problem with Rand as a character is how ridiculously powerful he is. And that kind of gets in the way of the narrative. The ending will be extremely happy? Yeah - he is seriously OP, but he is still subject to the Taint and while men have bigger 'muscles' when it comes to the Power, women are more adaptable. I don't think it necessarily gets in the way, though - there are plenty of occasions where all his incredible strength is pretty much meaningless. As for happy..? I...would call it contentedly contemplative, myself. But others may well disagree with that.

Question to the book readers: What were your favourite plot-lines and characters in the books? I really liked Rand's story as he was learning the Power under the tutelage of... Asmodean. The dynamic between them was amusing and I felt like Asmo might actually have been capable of change. It wouldn't have redeemed him, of course. The Forsaken were all too far gone for that, even if he was the least of them, but people don't change for redemption, they change because it's the right thing to do. I liked the story of Rand, his girlfriends and the...fifth wheel in their relationship(s). Mat and his warband. Favourite characters would be Rand (seems weird, but for me, nearly every chapter he was in just seethed with tension) and the other two ta'veren. Alivia and Tuon both grew on me (even if Alivia was underdeveloped. Tuon has one of the great lines in the series; "You will bow to me, Rand al'Thor. It will not happen the other way around." Min, obviously. Loial as well, in his moments. Second tier would be Lan, Nynaeve, Sheriam, Logain and Taim.

Question to the book readers: What were your favourite plot-lines and characters in the books? I read the books so long ago that frankly I don't remember much. The broad outlines of the plot, sure, but specific recollections and emotional associations are largely lost or buried beyond easy recall. Everything from roughly books 5-10 is a big blur, for instance. I remember thinking Perrin was the most interesting of the ta'veren characters in the early books, before his storyline dragged and I switched loyalties to Mat. But I usually liked stuff to do with Tar Valon and Aes Sedai and wished there was more of it, so that probably accounts for my favorite plotlines and characters. Something I didn't notice much back in my more innocent adolescent days but that stands out in retrospect is all the weird sex stuff, of which there was a surprising amount for books that were pretty much PG-13. I suppose that, not uncommonly for male fantasy authors, Robert Jordan wore his fetishes on his sleeve. Doubt much of that will make it to the show

Can you tell me what he's wrong about without spoiling what actually happens? A lot of this will echo what was already said, but my opinion: everyone but Moiraine who will have a really touching mother/son relationship with him. Moiraine is indeed one of the few people in power who won't try to fuck Rand over but, much to my frustration as a reader, their relationship is really not a touching mother/son one. Despite Rand being one of my favorite characters, he really frustrated me with regard to this. He remembers Moiraine as the most powerful Aes Sedai and the best female character by far, so that delighted me to hear. I would say she's one of the most powerful if you include force of will and character, but if he meant as a channeler, then no. The problem with Rand as a character is how ridiculously powerful he is. And that kind of gets in the way of the narrative. He's powerful, but the taint will complicate things, as will Rand's personality, and also Rand's lack of experience with channeling. Additionally, the way other characters approach Rand is affected by how powerful he is, and several people are going to make some...bad choices. The ending will be extremely happy? ![](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/YRlxTPdqbeMFLeponFQK.png) I guess that's subjective. There is something about the ending that I really hate, but I think that's an unpopular opinion. And also a huge spoiler. Question to the book readers: What were your favourite plot-lines and characters in the books? Rand and Moiraine were always at the top. I also liked Min, Verrin, Asmodean, and Lan. Also Tam, as minor a character as he is. I have no doubt there were others, but I don't remember anymore. For plotlines: Everything in the Aiel Waste was enjoyable. Those were some of the best books in the series. Asmodean's story line was great, too. Also the cleansing of the taint.
Of the main "kids" though, Rand's story was always my favorite one, except for in Book 10, where he...sat in a chair, or something.

Everything in the Aiel Waste was enjoyable. "The Three-Fold Land is not soft, Aes Sedai. Soft things die here." Also the cleansing of the taint. Never in my life has a passage in a book played out so cinematically in my head.

Don't read Kappa... There is something about the ending that I really hate Anything specific? Or just a feeling? I didn't like the whole body exchange thing, although, if you make a prophecy where "to live, you must die", you haven't left yourself a whole lot of wriggle room.

It's the body swap that I hated, yes. I remember in the lull between the RJ books and the Brandon Sanderson ones, people on Dragonmount were already predicting the body swap, and I thought it was...I don't know, cheesy? A red herring? I was disappointed when it turned out to be real. I guess I wouldn't prefer a dead Rand to a bodyswapped Rand, though. ![:?](//storage.proboards.com/6576594/images/hCjUwIQPCuKCiGfQYxGD.png)

Some of the discussion on here reminded me of another thing that disappointed me in the last book. Big honkin' book spoilers within: I had to look it up, because I couldn't remember for sure how it went, but Lan and Moiraine never have any kind of reunion that we get to see after Moiraine returns, other than them standing in the same tent ignoring each other.
They were close for 20 years. Lan had every right to be pissed at Moiraine for what she did with his bond, even if she did it to save his life, so a tearful reunion might not have been in the cards, but...nothing? No "glad you're not dead, you bitch"? Or "how could you do that to me after everything?" Or "OMG you're alive, now come here so I can yell at you"? Nothing at all?
I saw an interview with Sanderson explaining that in RJ's notes, Moiraine had been tortured by the Finns with twisted, false memories, including Lan raping her. Had this been included in the book, it could explain her coldness toward him, but it's still very unsatisfying as a reader to get no closure to this relationship.
Anyone else feel this way? Or maybe I'm missing something?

See, my poor memory of the books means I was momentarily confused, wondering what Santa's countrymen have ever done to anyone. Damned Finns, they ruined Finland! But you're right, that is strange. I'm guessing it was probably a combination of too many threads to deal with in the last few books (so less time to wrap up minor subplots and relationships) and a new writer at the helm. On a similar note, I thought Moiraine and Thom's relationship came out of nowhere. At least Egwene and Gwyn (?) had the excuse that she got trapped in his wet dream.

Not those Finns. I'm sure those Finns are lovely. I want to go to Finland one day. But not the other Finn-land. Book spoilers here, too: Moiraine and Thom's relationship came out of nowhere. At least Egwene and Gwyn (?) had the excuse that she got trapped in his wet dream. I agree completely. Moiraine and Thom make no sense to me in a relationship.
