It is the best Kickstarter game ive played so far, at least wall to wall in terms of content. Tyranny is a close second so Obsidian has a decent track record.
In terms of RPG's its a bit too milquetoast and generic for my liking, but I do recommend trying it out, it's well worth a playthrough or two. Just don't expect it to light the world on fire it is definitly following a mold of reviving isometric style games vs trying to forge their own. Tyranny I felt did the latter better, even with it's own inconsistencies.

I was wondering how the PC version of this game (with patches and expansions) was for you. Did you enjoy it for the combat story, dialogue, ect? I enjoyed NWN, BG, XCOM and expansions/DLC. Yes, totally. I am a huge fan of the Baldur's Gate saga and also of Icewind Dale I & II, and I have found Pillars of Eternity to be a modernized descendant of those games. Couple of things are different and obviously they have their very own somewhat more complex rule set, but it works and feels very familiar to anyone who played the round based infinity games. What I did not like too much were the characters, they simply didn't click for me. They all have their own unique back story and companion quests but I simply didn't like any of them, they felt a bit dull, and so was the antagonist. There was no Minsc, Edwin, Jaheira or Irenicus. Also the voice acting in general was a little disappointing. Still, I'd give the game a solid 85 of 100 points. And don't forget their next Pillars of Eternity, Deadfire, is just around the corner. BTW; I liked Tyranny quite a bit though, I hope some of its good stuff bleeds into Deadifre. I preordered it on PS4 before it came out. I do not regret paying full price. I think the only companion I really enjoyed was Eder. I hope Deadfire makes it's way to console after the release on PC like the first game.

Sadly, it's only on PC and my system isn't geared for games. If I get a new system, I'll definitely buy it.

Eh, PC is overrated sometimes. On the gaming front, PC wins hands down if you are spec'd above optimal or even at recommended. When it comes to home entertainment, consoles was my go-to. My new TV has all the programs built-in (Netflix, Hulu, ect), so my console is good for watching movies on discs. Once I have a gaming PC, I'd only use my console to play with my kids. Don't get me wrong, consoles are great and the ease of access to play by sitting on my sofa is nice. If it wasn't for great graphics and PC exclusives, I wouldn't want a gaming PC tbh. Well.. honestly, it's the PC exclusives that leans me to buying it because I'm quite satisfied with the PS4 Pro graphics on their video games.

Get the best possible 'thing' you can afford at the time, and it will - usually - serve you better and longer. The trick is knowing what you can actually 'afford'

Eh, PC is overrated sometimes. Should I begin my rant of console gaming partially responsible for the dumbing down of games we see today on all fronts?

No way I'm buying a mediocre PC that will barely/not run games in 3-5 years. I'd invest in the best I can possibly buy so I can upgrade parts as the years go by instead of basically the whole PC flopping in acouple years. You know?

They just announced that Deadfire is coming out on April 3rd! Which is pretty much perfect for me, since I want to do one more perfect run of the first game and have some other games to wrap up first.

Barely finished the vanilla campaign of the first, the combat is too reliant on initial status effects and has no weight and I had story related problems with the villain. I've tried the Winter March but didn't have the patience to finish it. I do hope they improve the combat in the second one, and that PoE 2 will be a jump in quality like DOS2 to DOS1.

Yeah, I certainly felt a rather high degree of attrition with the first game. The DOS1 to DOS2 comparison is a good one, I'd certainly be happy if they managed a comparable improvement. The fact that they seemed to have removed the fatigue status is a step in the right direction I think... Although I am more concerned with the sort of blandness of the narrative they can do. I love the world setting of Pillars, but I felt like the main campaign just fell flat towards the end by being so by the numbers.

Just buy POE I 3 day ago. Combat is too hard for me since I have to order every skill of every character myself. This is the seceond RPG game that I have to play at easy mode. Currently playing in ACT II, I like Eder most and want him to open his heart in deadfire.

You can also queue up a chain of commands by holding down the Shift key. The character will then execute them in order while you handle other stuff.

Spent yesterday going through the beta again after the update, and I'm happy that combat felt a lot better to me this time around. Made my Chanter as a Skald and he played just the way I wanted. (He was a front line tank who only took offensive invocations in the first game, so the subclass penalty was no penalty at all and he got to use a lot more invocations.)
Casting spells still feels waaaaaaaay too slow, but they seem to have weapon balance in about the right place now. I'm ambivalent about the ship management aspect of the game - I seemed to spend all my money buying rice and water for my crew - but we'll see how that plays out in the full game.

I'm definitely preordering the PS4 edition once it's available. I didn't think a port was going to be announced so quickly.
