It is pretty sad that the vast majority of what limited resources they put into this short support cycle went to appeasing the haters rather than the people who liked the game. while true a lot of the stuff really did improve the game. Agreed, though a lot of the stuff only went to improving it for those who complained rather than improving it for everyone. It is pretty sad that the vast majority of what limited resources they put into this short support cycle went to appeasing the haters rather than the people who liked the game. I think all the resources were spent long before the haters got a word in. I disagree. The whole making Jaal bi thing almost certainly took a huge chunk since it required writing, animation, voice, etc and that was in response to fan outcry.

Going forward, will Bioware and EA actually learn from the shortcomings of MEA or will they just ignore all critisms and blame the internet? I was always under the assumption that the failure of MEA would be a wakeup call to EA and Bioware but I no longer believe that. Going by the boss of EA, it seems that they are doubling down on the idea that nothing was wrong with the game and essentially blaming the media/gamers for the failure of the game. Yes, there was a population of people who was just looking for that moment tp pounce on Bioware and MEA was red meat. But that still does not take away the fact that many people simply just did not like the game. Take GamerMD for example, she has always been a Bioware fangirl and very supportive of them, but even she said she didnt enjoy the game. So to make this seem like it was internet haters who brought down MEA, perhaps EA and Bioware needs to look at themselves in the mirror and analyse what they could have done better rather than using the internet as a scapegoat. So what do you think EA and Bioware will/do about the failure of MEA and how should that effect any future games like DA4? No. They're still full of crap. As a matter of fact, they can't be trusted. History dictated by each title, DLC is already in the plans. Since EA decided to chop up stories to make DLC, the fact that MEA has open plotlines and DLC was killed just proves that EA doesn't understand the fanbase, the franchises themselves and their own employees. In light of EA's horrible marketing and PR decisions, I just have one thing to say as a fan who is tired of getting disappointed: F*** YOU EA! F*** YOU AND YOUR BULLCRAP. YOU'RE LIARS, CON ARTISTS and YOU'RE JUST USING THE FANBASE TO JUSTIFY YOUR BLOATED SALARIES. The only golden era I see are the showers you're spraying on your loyal customers.

Nope. Most of it was done after the outcry. Says who? Them in their PR statements? You don't develop something like that within 5 weeks. Which was the time between patches.

Also support has not ended for the game, it's still on-going at present for multiplayer. Doesn't that tell you something? Oh yes. It tells me they're saying a heartfelt fuck you to single players. An incomplete, but correct statement. They're sticking to what is the lower cost and higher benefit for them. Now that we have hindside with the likes Qurian Ark book given the green light some time ago (which could be the same price as a DLC, but much cheaper to produce), along with the troubled development period and plans for Montreal being absorbed in advance of the game's release, all tells me that EA knew a storm of some kind would come by releasing in March. They held some hope they'd squeeze past it (which it seems they did, at least in money terms), and if it beat their expectations they'd maybe pull a few resources to continue some development for the likes of DLC. It didn't of course, so they just did the minimum amount of patching for a short time and they duly cut it so not to risk any losses. MP is only having continued support because the numbers tell them it's worth to continuing, if it didn't they'd have pulled the plug on that too.

It was completely mismanaged and they went with "fingers crossed" hoping to skirt the backlash. Sorry Hanako... EA made their bed even though BioWare left it a mess. They should've protected their golden goose because you know... we're all capable of making mistakes and bad decisions. Anthem can kiss my ass. What triggered me:

while true a lot of the stuff really did improve the game. Agreed, though a lot of the stuff only went to improving it for those who complained rather than improving it for everyone. I think all the resources were spent long before the haters got a word in. I disagree. The whole making Jaal bi thing almost certainly took a huge chunk since it required writing, animation, voice, etc and that was in response to fan outcry. Money and a bit of time, certainly bigger than most patch tweaks, but not a substantial undertaking. I also think that wan't an unjustifiable alteration considering how Bioware have taken great steps to be fairly inclusive and it was clearly an accident not to be able to get that achievement with m/m only romances. I think clean up patching was expected, but the game and all the things in it that people love and hate was finished before haters had anything to bitch about.

Griffith82, you and I are on the same page, but this time... there is nothing, but pure animosity when I think of EA. I get why they cancelled the DLC from a strictly financial point of view, but not enough was done to save the reputation of BioWare. Every rival studio is going to piss on Anthem, crap on DA4 and make sure their fanbase hates BioWare and EA. I got an earful of education from some hipsters WHO WORKED AT BIOWARE in Austin at PAX South... and everything they said about EA (they weren't leads, so it was speculation) is true.

Oh dearie dear...
This thread has delivered. I wanted to shred several posts, but it seems the most absurd comments have been intentionally ignored.
The BioDrone swarm is fascinating, both sad and funny.
The idea that mean people on the internet killed your game out of spite based primarily on latent bitterness from the ME3 ending, are some serious cherry-picking mother fuckers.
Never mind that many of us, after being disappointed by that ending, were absolutely burnt by the disappointment that was DAI. Still haven't gotten further than the introduction on several second playthroughs... It is just a bore. PC controls, shit AI, but OOH SHINY!
The fact is: no, EA/BW will learn nothing from this, because they knew all along what you people have to eventually realize -
Corporations are not people, and if they are a publicly traded company profit is their only motivation. By investing in corporations, and celebrating profit over people, we land in this wasteland. Profiteering is killing gaming, killing the environment, killing us.
Yet, some of you celebrate it. Nothing but contempt for ya.

I'm going to say the word "BioWare" and let's see how many bar patrons know the meaning.

It sounds like you agree that there were a couple of reasons why a lot of people would be predisposed to take a dim view of MEA. As for cherry picking, there was quite a bit of that with the memes that circulated. Agreed. It is the unfortunate reality in which most of us live. We do have another option, though, and that is to support indies and other people with a passion for their craft instead of the bottom line. I do believe that a lot of individuals with those characteristics are still employed by the conglomerates, however.
