I think if it was released in 2017 with just 4K graphics and nothing else changed, people still will hate it because of the negatives you listed. They are going to ignore the amazing story and choices, but will focus on the clunky combat, the empty worlds (which is how real exploration has to be), as well as the massive amount of side quests that were pretty much the same........ Also, the bugs, Bioware left some annoying bugs in there. Finally, the couple of seconds of the textures to fully load after loading a save will be its death sentence. Gamers are merciless this day and age and they look at only the negative in a game, at least most of the vocal once. If it was touted and released as AAA title with all the bells and whistles? If they lied about the graphics quality? Maybe. Otherwise it would almost certainly be very well received. 'Rough around the edges, needs work but a very solid start to a franchise' is the kind of review I would expect. But I won't further interrupt your 'THE HATERZ DID IT!!!' line of reasoning, however deluded. Well HATERZ did ruin ME3 by complaining about the ending, they ruined DA2 because of no origins stories and repetitive world space, which were in the first one also, and MEA because of my favorite statement "this game sucks" with no explanation or back up. The bugs where EA and Biowares fault, no question about that, but they fixed most of them post launch, so yeah, they redeemed them self and should have continue with the story DLC. Everything else is subjective, so the argument "this game sucks" with no backing or example of why doesn't hold. Other games that the internet ruined were Halo 4, Fallout 4, Batman, Arkham Origins, and Infinite warfare, (which I love because I am a huge sci fi nerd). Now, i am not a hypocrite, and I do leave a negative voice on Destiny and GTA 5, which I REALLY DON'T LIKE. The point being, HATERZ are the vocal voice online while the people who like the game STFU and play the game. Still though, HATERZ are just one part of the deciding factor for publisher to abandon a game and a franchise. I don't work in the game industry, but I know what I like from trailers and game play vids.

Still though, HATERZ are just one part of the deciding factor for publisher to abandon a game and a franchise. I don't work in the game industry, but I know what I like from trailers and game play vids. Haterz did not ruin ME3, Bioware alone did it. If you doubt me, just search the reviews from good reputation or very long established sites: some give positive reviews, some give negative ones. It's even actually. I can praise the ends of ME3 for leting Shepard die and thank god for that, is a bold move when a dev or movie studio do this instead of the "rainbows and gold" ending. On the other hand the endings are too bad executed, there are very interesting ideas on them but they are lazy explained to the player and kinda rushed. No wonder people was displeased, they invested 5 years creating a character and then got railroad in the 15 final minutes of the game. The best video still today that describes what ME3 was and why the game failed for a good portion of players is one of the offical videos released: The video lead you to believe something, but when you actually play the game there's nothing of sort in that particular sequece. As for MEA, the same applies. The game is a reboot of ME1. I have no problem with that actually, but never Bioware stated it was a reboot and insisted it was a divergent story with another timeline. In the end we do not have the later, which is damn shame actually, because the game is not that bad but it simply rehash ME1 in a different engine. Most of the squadmates for example are simply carbon copies of your old team mates in ME1/ME2/ME3. That's why I think it displeased some players.

I've long forgiven BioWare for the launch bugs/animations. Those are patched. What is more frustrating to accept 6 months post-launch is that from a story perspective, Mass Effect Andromeda fails to match the emotional beats in the story that all three trilogy installments had. Mass Effect 1 - 3 were great games, if not without flaws, made by master craftsmen. Mass Effect Andromeda is a competent game from the 'B team' (after patching) but particularly in story terms, it lacks the status of a masterwork, something that can't be patched.

Basic common sense many lack.
