You could try SWTOR, it's a MMO but don't be afraid, you have 8 class stories that can be done solo, and they are very long.
Another game similar to ME is The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, the combat is very similar to the ME Trilogy, it has some RPG elements, and a dialogue wheel.

Yep, I already tried to plug SWTOR in on the previous page, and tbh, I think it is the closest to ME than anything else. Andromeda actually plays (save for lightsabres and combat system) as another class story in SWTOR imo. Free to try as well.

ME is really the only space opera rpg I can think of (well there is KOTOR but that game is 14 years old). You would think there would be more but it is unique and then the stupid internet has to go and try to murder ME. SWTOR is newer. It's a MMO technically, but it's SP portion is gigantic. I would not discount it just because it's on-line. SWTOR is alright but I have to be in a big Star Wars mood to play it

To me, those aren't similar to ME. When I think similar to ME, I'm asking for a space RPG. DA is fine but not thematically similar. There's really no space rpgs out there that I can think of. Not even a lot of science fiction rpgs, really. Fallout, Deus Ex, that's about it afaik I mean, maybe someone made a story mod for Stellaris or something that I'm not aware of... For Stellaris : - There is a Mass effect mod. It adds ships and races, but nothing else, so obviously no RPG - There is a St-New horizon mod (a Star Trek mod) which adds a lot of stories and scripted missions, for the main races. It's still a 4X game, but has lot of Role Play incentives.

Well just finished my 5th walkthrough of MEA and the ME series is the only thing I have played other than Dragon Age Origins. I need a break for a bit.. What other games are really cool and similar to the Mass Effect Series that are CURRENT? Not looking for anything old right now, but something within say the past few years. I only play on the PC. I loved DAO and I loved all the ME games including Andromeda. TIA Well, it's cheating a bit as you did say recent, but Beamdog have remastered Baldurs Gate 1-2, Icewind Dale and Planescape Torment - great old single player story based games If you know the shadowrun rpg, Harebrained schemes did a trilogy of single player shadowrun games, personally I think they're superb. The same company is also doing Battletech with a single player campaign, but few details on story yet

Oh Boy.. I guess I didn't make my post the way i had intended lol.. Ok, let me rephrase it. I loved the ME series including MEA I loved DAO - wasn't a huge fan of DAI. I am looking for a game that is similar to the play style especially the play style in ME. Where it was very easy to play and use abilities and your team could actually play by themselves for the most part. I do NOT care at all that it takes place in space That means nothing to me.. Mostly a fun game (NEWER game) that plays somewhat similar. I have heard really good/great things about the Witcher Series, esp Witcher 3, but I started playing Witcher 1 a while ago and I didn't like the mechanics of fighting, but i didn't give that a chance.. So, i guess just looking for something really fun, easy to play, and somewhat similar to Play style to MEA or DAO.. I hope that clears is up a bit.. Sorry if my post lead everyone to thinking about space games

Sorry if my post lead everyone to thinking about space games The Witcher series is really good but drastically different. Combat is very unique, no squad and well don't play around minors as it could make GTA blush. As far as a squad based game wow only thing I can think of is Gears of War. Unless you go for JRPG games.(Final Fantasy for example)

In regards to Technomancer, I wouldn't say that it's similar to Mass Effect. Even ignoring the massively inferior production qualities, Technomancer is more of a post-apocalyptic story set on Mars which includes elements of Sci-fi, than it is a proper Sci-fi / Space Opera story. Yes, but the production qualities/budget ratio of Technomancer is far greater (at least than MEA). I love this game, one of my favorite RPG, but the gameplay reminds me more of The Witcher than Mass Effect (melee instead of guns). And even if it feels like a post-apo, it's still a sci-fi game, it's just that the life on Mars is harsh. I started playing SWTOR last weekend with a friend, gameplay is not great (MMO) but at least it feels bioware-ish in the story telling. But I wouldn't play it solo.

Never played or even heard about Technomancer (before this thread), but I greatly enjoyed Witcher 3. The atmosphere of the locales is amazing. The cities feel like cities. The creepy abandoned swamps feel like creepy abandoned swamps. Fetch quests are kept to a minimum, but there are plenty of minor quests to choose from if you just need loot/XP. I wouldn't say it is similar to Mass Effect, though. I like Geralt and the other W3 characters, but I felt I could roleplay much more with Shepard, which gives ME a lot more replayability.

When I'm talking about The Witcher, I'm talking about The Witcher 1, not the superproduction TW3 I wouldn't compare Technomancer to TW3 Also indeed it's a matter of taste since some buyers seems to really "unlike" this game, expecting ME3/TW3 quality from a small studio and getting something different But even for a small studio, I find its story/characters better than MEA
Finally, to get back on the subject, if you don't mind crawling in air vents, Deus Ex Human Revolutions had good dialogues, story and gameplay, and you can get it for cheap

I like the combat in the witcher- much like dancing around your opponent, nice flow to it. You don't need to play W1 & W2 but I'd recommended for the pure enjoyment. Technomancer was also good game. interesting lore, quests good. Combat similar to Witcher. lots of backtracking on quests. It was fun, recommend that too. I agree with you about TW3. I enjoyed the game very much and put more hours into it than I want to admit. I even had fun doing almost all the side quests. Absolutely loved both expansion packs. I own Technomancer and have only played it for 30 minutes. I guess I should give it another try?

Fantasy RPG's just don't feel the same.

The other Dragon Age games post Origins would be the most logical place to start.
There is a Mass Effect mod for Civilization 5 which has all the Mass Effect civilizations (e.g. Wrex is leader of the Krogan, Tali negotiates on behalf of the migrant fleet, etc.) which is a lot of fun, especially for diplomacy. They all have unique units and bonuses for example Cerberus have huge bonuses for spying and espionage and you can even fight the reapers who are hilariously OP, krogan have massive population bonuses, the Volus are a Venitian-style mercantile city state, Salarians and Asari have various science and cultural bonuses, Turians produce bonus great generals and have production bonuses to combat units if memory serves, would definitely recommed if you are a fan of Mass Effect and Civ games.
In one game I was the Ilusive man and I was bordering the Krogan and Turians who were at war and it was facinating watching it happen while sabotaging the Turians, rigging their elections to cause unrest, stealing their technology and finally declaring friendship and a defensive pact with the Krogan, naturally.

The combat in Witcher 1 is rather clunky & naff to be honest, you "chain" up to 3 attacks (next one does more damage than the previous) and you don't do the attacking yourself, only click when your cursor changes. If you mistime, you break the chain and have to start again. I failed a number of quests that involved escorting or keeping a certain NPC alive, as I couldn't kill stuff quite quick enough. Ended up using a cheat to one shot most enemies, the boss battles are a bit better, but still easy to mess up.

If you get it and you are in the US make sure to get the Enhanced Edition and Directors cut Patch. Back when it was released the ESRB forced them to censor it. The patch un censores it.

If you have the old version of Skyrim (Oldrim) on PC, I'd recommend looking into the total conversion mod Enderal. It's a lot more linear and character-focused than Skyrim, with a new story, land, and protagonist. It's a completely new adventure. It's also fully voice acted and available in both English and German. The writing reminded me a lot of Bioware, so if you enjoy Dragon Age and Mass Effect--you really should check it out! Here's the trailer: This might make installing Skyrim again not seem like a terrible idea. Interesting and unexpected, thanks!

As I played the witcher 1 had computer issues which wiped out my save so I couldn't continue so ended up abandoning it. But I do intend to go back in and try again though it's just a question of when.
