Is this still going? Wow!
Well, I didn't touch the game since I finished it and didn't spend a dime on MP. I'd say I spent 50 bucks on ME3MP...if everyone who bought MEA had spent the same I did on ME3MP, BW could afford a Quarian DLC with Elcors shitting rainbows!
I guess I should change the title for "one of the many things that killed MEA was..."

Terrible sales. That will kill a game. Hell, it's already getting put on Origin Access. I guess those claiming it sold really well were talking out of their ass.

Damn, if they prioritized romances over everything else the end result was terrible. There's not a game I can recall in recent memory that had relationships/romances that felt as dry as Andromeda's. I can see why they would appeal to the romance crowd however. It's an easy one to appease, in the end they will still be the ones defending the game when everyone else has finished trashing it. Smart on Bioware's part in some ways. The romance crowd would cry over a fanfiction written by a 12 year old. Every one else knows Andromeda was a trash game, but you best believe the romance crowd is still there making romance artwork, gifs, giving the characters weird ass pet names, putting flowers over their heads calling them cinnamon rolls or whatever and swooning over every bit of cheesy romance dialogue lol. They're the most loyal fans. What sucks the most about it is that the playbase often forgives bad writig and it encourages Bioware to continuously make characters that appeals to ''The CWs'' viewer base. I blame the Witcher fans more than the romance crowd. Bioware's been doing romances in their games for years. Decades, really. But in more recent years they've been pushing more and more explicit content. because CDPR has been doing it and I guess if you can't see boobs or butts it's a "Disney" romance. So now we get quasi-porn scenes instead of a proper romance and "tired faces" in the rest of the game because that's not the priority. I'm not entirely sure how Witcher anything is responsible for it. If anything it's Bioware fans. The only reason we can even bang characters like Jaal is because of the Bioware fanbase obsession with interracial sex with aliens and the popularity of that aspect. Which is absolutely hilarious might I add. These people just came from another galaxy, and there's not even a slightest bit of concern over sex with a new species of fish people lmao. Anyway, same reason we got that completely ridiculous Iron Bull bdsm romance plot in which Bull played the role of the Mandingo of Thedas lmao. I still don't understand how he doesn't completely kill any elf, dwarf or human character but I digress. They listen to all those fanfic writers and tumblr porn artist. Next Dragon Age we're going to be able to bang a Darkspawn calling it now, yes Bioware fanbase is that weird. Heh to think we westerners call the Japanese weird.

Interspecies sex has been a thing since BG2. That's nothing new. What is new is seeing it graphically happen on-screen. And I blame Witcher fans for it because they kept crying about how fade-to-black is kid's stuff and REAL "mature" gamers need to see penetration happen. Heck they were calling Josephine the "Disney" romance in DAI because we didn't get to see her naked.

With each game Bioware fans have been wanting more intense scenes as well as more diverse sex scenes with equal nudity. Story was always the main pull and focus of fans to Witcher. It has never sold itself on it's sex scenes alone. ''Who to bang'' has always been a Bioware concern. I remember before the game's release fans along with the creators were more concerned over the banging than the actual plot of the game. This has never been a selling point for either CD or Bethesda but always has been one for Bioware. In fact, we got Jaal same sex option because of the lgbt Bioware community complaining about how crap the male on male scenes were compared to Peebee and Cora's. I don't remember Witcher fans ever wanting to protest a Witcher game over a sex scene or lack of an interesting one. Bioware has always had the most critical fanbase of the 3. Bioware itself is also to blame for it. Just like them trying to capitalize on the success of Skyrim with Inquisition.

And that leads them to want more sex scenes. And they you get...well, BSN.

I thought Josie's romance was called Disney because Josie herself is kind of a Disney princess, with a sappy, light-hearted romance to go with it. I mean, we never see Blackwall naked and I don't think people were calling his romance Disney.

I suspect initial sales were great based on reputation and expectation, never mind the reviews and memes. I also suspect the drop off was sudden and huge.

Funny that wasn't the case with the Witcher games right? We are aware that you hate sex, but this is just fucking stupid. Endings and sex, Iakus' deepest scars.

I really don't see why explicit sex scenes are that much of a big deal. If they fit for a particular romance or character then include them, if they don't then don't have them. At the end of the day I highly doubt their going to consume that many resources or make the game terrible.

Those scenes really got a disproportionate amount of polish compared to the rest of the game.

Truth be told I think that Bioware just decided to be lazy, realizing that polishing the entirety of MEA would be way too much work and instead decided to focus on "fixing" a comparatively much, much smaller portion of the game. That's why BiJaal happened if you ask me. Making him available to both Ryders is a lot easier than polishing the entire game and would appease a very thirsty section of the fanbase. Jokes on them though, the Romance Thread has been dead for weeks. Anyways, I think we kind of agree. It's just that I think Bioware doesn't really care that much about romances and instead wanted to the least work possible and yet try to look good while doing little.

Was it not already settleded that it was BW Montreal management that screwed up with lack of focus with vision and unrealistic demands? Which caused developement hell on top of Frostbite lacking Action RPG dev tools at the time.

Game's SP DLC was declared null and void months before release. It was gross incompetance and awful PR that lead us to here. The fact that game sold well despite it all, shows how strong IP is. Well was. It is now a dead IP in reality. Only BioWare can make a ME game, but BioWare can not be trusted to handle the franchise anymore. All because of some BW Montreal managers who wanted to make a No Mabs Sky clone despite everyone saying that is impossible with Frostbite.

"Laziness" isn't really sensible in this context, unless you figure devs are just sitting around playing Overwatch and getting paid for it. I've seen companies break down that badly, but you can't really talk about this sort of thing as a plan. Cheapness, maybe. Bio refusing to pay for more extensive fixes could be a thing, sure.
