Meh Lexi came off as the bully in this particular case. How? When did Lexi ever attack or insult PeeBee? I'll save you time, she never does. Meanwhile PeeBee repeatedly personally attacks or insults Lexi.

I'm pretty sure that is a textbook example of what a bully is. I classify bullying as using your power (physical or social) against someone to get what you won't from them. Bu hey that's just my definition. Regardless, if that's your definition of bullying then do you think Liam was bullying Vetra with his comments about her sister? personally, I think he was being a snide, hypocrite myself but I wouldn't call that bullying.

Jaal, Drack, Vetra are all pretty much up to par with past ME squadmates. I'm of course talking about 2 which was my favorite from the trilogy. Seems Liam is universally the most disliked though lol. Dunno why it's so hard for Bioware to make a likable human male. It's like they try their hardest to make them the most boring or annoying characters in the squad.

Warm, breathable atmosphere, has some great vistas... maybe we could catch some well deserved R&R together?Sure!Few hours later, Sara Ryder pushes Liam into the mouth of volcano.Note to Bioware: in future, always let us one off annoying companions ( preferably comical scenes).

I think he's disliked by a lot of male players. A lot, not all. And many female players like him a lot. Personally, he is one of my favorites. I find Vetra, who appears to be a crowd favorite, utterly, mind-numbingly boring. But then I also felt the same way about Garrus. Still, I think Garrus was written better and had better nuance. Vetra, like so many MEA characters, is incredibly one-note. Vetra=sister Cora=asari Jaal=family Gil=his gut lmao Suvi=god and stuff Lexi=i'm a doctor And so on... Drack surprisingly, at least to me, has the most nuance. You don't even learn he finds himself expendable until you do his loyalty mission late in the game. It's a sweet touch.

That's strange, I was watching the "Everybody hates liam" video and I think I saw more females saying stuff like "throw him out of the airlock" than males lol. But i'm sure there are some females who like him because the romance options are limited. Jaal, Drack, Vetra are all pretty much up to par with past ME squadmates. His belief that every thing should just work the way he wants it despite us just arriving in a new galaxy, his annoying accent, and his hypocrisy. Having the nerve to call people irresponsible when he basically left his life and family behind because he was bored. He has criticized both Vetra and Peebee when he essentially did the same thing as them. Atleast we get some sort of justice because most of the team tends to put him in his place. I also kinda dislike him because he says "we got this" like repeatedly.....throughout the game. So much that I always remember him now as the "we got this" dude.

Well, there is a lot of love for him on Tumblr, which is mostly women.
Mass Effect is more heavily skewed male players than Dragon Age, which is more skewed female, I believe. So male characters with flaws are more accepted in Dragon Age, and even beloved. Someone like Anders or Fenris will get skewered by male fans but female fans adore him. (That's a broad generalization, sure, but you know what I mean.)
Mass Effect fans, being mostly male, tend to shun male characters who don't represent traditionally masculine traits. So characters like Kaidan, who are sensitive and emotional, are called "whiny," whereas Garrus, who is a tough "bro" type character who has your Shep's back no matter what is beloved by players.
Liam is foolish, young, and does stuff without thinking, potentially making the PC look bad by having to clean his mess up. So players dislike him. He's not a "bro" in any way shape or form. he goes on about genuinely wanting to form connections between Milky Way people and angarans. He's a kind person, and he makes friends easily. That's not going to gel well with the typical Mass Effect player.

This honestly majorly got on my nerves, too. The current trend is towards everyone eventually calling it "football," anyway, so I don't even think "soccer" would be in use in the future.

In the department of 'things I have wanted to do for a while'...and since I am about to start a new MEA playthrough...well I wanted to do a detailed character anylisis of all the characters in Andromeda, at least the main squad since they have the easiest and most fleshed out character arcs. Most of the others, don't really. Now, as I think of it, a character arc is compromised mainly of ones motivations, flaws, and their goals. Or things in their back story that drive them forward, things that prevent them from achieving their goals and....well their goals.
So, here goes.
Cora Harper.
Starting with her first because well, I think she is the most interesting to talk about given her apparent opinion of her around these parts and well I'm upgrading her to an 8.5 from my list earlier.
Motivations: She wants to belong. Plain and simple. Ever since her family abandoned her she has been looking for some place to call home and someone to look up to since everything in her life, even the Asari commandos and Alec Ryder, seems to be transitory.
Flaws: In wanting to belong she looks for it everywhere external to herself. Her comandos, her time with Alec, the iniative. She is constantly searching for something to lead her to a family and a belonging. This is why she is constantly talking about the commandos because it is a bit of a hero worship and its the only thing she has ever had. And people go through this IRL, let somethig consume them to where it becomes part of their identity. Plus, with the chip on her shoulder about her biotics...which is still pretty weird but meh she isn't rated 10/10.
Goals: Her goal is to find a home for herself. A solid foundation from which to grow from there. Trouble is she finds out that this is ultimatley untennable, considering one of her childhood heroes ends up being a bit of a scumbag she learns to look internally. She learns to accept herself and starts with her botany. Plus with her relationship with Ryder (if you pursue one) she begins to look to what is around her for her 'home'.
Conclusion: Cora Harper sounds like one of those characters which is easy to confuse, much like Liam. Her constant talking about the commandos makes her come off as poorly written, a one track record and one dimensonal. But, she is far from that. It may be laid on a little thickly (again her writing is not perfect) but her mentioning her history is important to her character because its all she has. A constant reminder to the audience that her identity is based on things mostly around her. Which, is what she learns and frankly I wonder if they will do anything with her in the future.

Liam pointed out the obvious and made statements that made me wish I was chewing on sawdust. Cora was alright. I took her along on missions often. She made me chuckle a few times. Vetra could have been amazing. But for me, she rarely had anything to say on missions. Strangely quiet. Was it a glitch? I don't know. Drack was a good squadmate. True Krogan. Enjoyed bringing him along. Peebee easily my favorite. Loved her banter and she didn't care what others thought. Jaal hands down had the most interesting things to say, as he was basically a tour guide of Andromeda. But I dunno. He just didn't do it for me.

Why? Liam is the absolute worst character BioWare has ever written. Even worse than al-Anders Qaida.By the way, I refined this nickname to something easier to say: And-Qaiders

I think it's not fair to say that we can't use ME's original trilogy cast. ME:A was created with these already made, after all. But I will follow.
Scott Ryder(PC): A bit unassertive, which bothered me, but I thought he was alright. He did things as I asked him too, and I never felt really forced to say something I didn't like.
Sara Ryder(NPC): Tragically underutilized. Would've been very interesting.
Cora Harper: I thought she was okay. I liked her personality a bit. But after that one seen, it was nothing.
Liam Kosta: The more I played with him, the more he got on my nerves. He wasn't nearly as funny as he thought, and his dialogue made the whole thing feel like a road trip.
Vetra Nyx: I thought she was cool, but she was an optional character in everything but actuality.
Nakmor Drack: One of the most boring characters I've played in a long time. Cliche as hell, but at least he could admit it.
Peebee: I can forgive the fact that she's a troll, because she was designed to be. Unfortunately, that didn't make me like her.
Jaal: A wimpy crybaby. I rolled my eyes so hard I needed an aspirin.
NPC's
SAM: Annoyed me, and I never got the emotional connection of SAM learning.
Kallo Jath: I liked him on a superficial level, and he did feel kinda alien. But it never extended beyond the superfical.
Suvi Anwar: For someone who had deep thoughts on faith, she didn't enough with it.
Lexi T'Perro: I feel like something was missing with her. Like they wanted to do something, and then stopped it halfway.
Director Tann: Annoying, but I liked him slightly more as the story went on.
Nakmor Kesh: Not nearly as "good" or interesting as the devs thought she was.
Addison: My face is tired from mentioning her.
Tiran Kandros: He managed to not offend me. But that was it. I never felt like he was part of the leadership, odd given his position.
Pathfinder Raeka: Now she I liked. She was awesome in so many ways.
Lumont Hayjer: He was cool, quick thinking and enjoyable. But since I save Raeka, I don't see him much.
Saelon Varn: He was fun, I loved his quest, even if it was fetch quest-y.
Pathfinder Sarissa: She aggravated me, but I loved the fact that I could throw it back in her face.
Vederia: I could relate to her a bit, but it did kinda fall flat.
Avitus Rix: Annoying whiny git. I only keep him as Pathfinder to save Dunn.
Captain Dunn: Her I liked. She was worth putting up with Rix so I could save her.

I only played it once so I can't really say much about the characters. I loved Drack, wanted to like Lexi, almost liked Cora for a while and the others...they exist. Although I will say that Peebees mission had my favorite moment in the entire game. Shooting Kalinda in the back felt so good, it was the only time the game let me be the asshole I wanted to be.

To bad you can't carve a smile on Kalinda's face before you shot her. Also, shot Peebee in the spine and watch as she tries to crawl away, in vain, from a river of lava.

I thought that final choice at the end of Peebee's loyalty mission was kinda stupid, in the sense of, most people are going to shoot her because she was sending hired goons to try and kill you. (For some people it was also because of the fact that Kalinda was abusive towards Peebee, but then again, not eveyone likes Peebee)

Rather than go out of my way to help someone, I shot her in the back and took the shiny thing. Which I don't think ever went anywhere but oh well.
