Yeah, I shot Kalinda too. Partially because I hated her and also because I wanted to see if Peebee would pull a Dorian and break up with me if I killed someone. Of course MEA managed to disappoint me and Peebee got over me murdering her former lover pretty easily.
(Sigh)

(Sigh) I wouldn't have minded the choice on whether or not to shoot Kalinda tbh if shooting her wasn't such a no-brainer. I mean it's like that Renegade choice with Kai Leng. (Hell yes I'm going to stab that insufferable fuckface, and almost everyone would want to stab him as well) I mean the game needs to give me a better reason to NOT shoot Kalinda, how about have Kalinda be one of the few competent higher ups within the Nexus and even more leadershipproblems will occur if you shoot Kalinda, maybe Kalinda would be extremely beneficial in allowing the exiles back to the Nexus, or something like that. (Just a few ideas)

I never shoot Kalinda; I'm not a trigger happy nutcase plus it just didn't seem like Ryder's place to do that.

Very charmless and forgettable. If any of them were in the original trilogy they wouldn't get brought on any missions. I liked Andromeda but squadmates were NOT a strongsuit at all. Cora was my favorite because I found her lolzy.

I kill her because recovering that Remnant goody is the only thing that makes all the headache of her mission worthwhile. Also, to spite Peebee.

Cora was my favorite because I found her lolzy. Aside from Drack, I agree. The writing is just so dull and boring at most times, how this writing staff got hired is beyond me, their marvelous work are reflected in that 69' score on Metacritic.

Generally Meh.
Sara Ryder: Came out as a lovable goofball when i was playing her. Different, but probably not the best choice as Pathfinder. Scott Ryder: Played him as a young guy who knows he's in over his head but is going to do his damnedest to rise to the occasion. I liked them both but still miss Shepard... Alec Ryder: Seemed like an interestingly flawed guy (so far my Ryder kids have had strained relationships with their old man.), shame we didn't see that much of him. Could clearly be charming, could also be an arse.
Cora Harper: Actually i liked Cora, i think she could have been handled better, she gets more of what should be character changing moments that don't come to much. She's better and more 3 dimensional in my head. I wanted to see Cora shocked and alarmed by Alec's death, jealous that the Ryder kid got the Pathfinder post over her, come to terms with it, deal with the situation on the Asari Ark and realise that Ryder needs a best friend/Older sister/ girlfriend to back them up. Cora's my Ryder's Second, she should have had some sort of "journey" to go through to get to that point. There is a Garrus shaped hole in Andromeda, Cora or Liam or Jaal could have filled it. I'd pick Cora.
Liam Costa: Liam! You let me down! I wanted you to be cool, romance material. You aren't, you're an idiot. You've got less personality and charisma than Jacob Taylor...NEXT! I'd not not chuck him out of the airlock or anything but I'd send him back to the Nexus or Podromos until he'd grown up a bit. Same with Peebee.
Peebee: She's moderately interesting and amusing, i could grow to like her, but dear writers, if you really really want me to hook up with an asari (and it seems you do), i'd be much more inclined to romance Dr Lexi. Peebee is friendzoned, wacky Ryder is wacky enough, sensible Ryder can't take the craziness.
Vetra: Yeah, she's OK, romanced her with Scott, somewhat underwhelmed. I liked Sid though.
Drack: OK, I LOVE DRACK. I want more Krogan in my life and in the Ryder's lives! Would totally have romanced Kesh, but then Vorn would be sad. At least Drack's pissed off with you when you leave his scouts behind for the Salarians (which I have, twice.)
Jaal: I find him a little creepy (I also find SAM creepy), the Angara are all just a bit too easy to understand, they're basically humans in suits aliens. I liked the showdown between him and Aksuul, it was one of the few genuine "wait a minute and let me think about this" moments in the game, and if i'm remembering rightly, you don't get any time to think...
Gil: He's ok.
Dr Lexi: Love Dr Lexi. Would like to get to know her better.
Kallo: I like Kallo, I think i prefer him to Joker to be honest.
Dr Suvi Anwar: I quite like Suvi, Suvi can stay. I'd like her to come out on missions, at least hang around on the Outposts while you were there or something. Her voice is adorable. I doubt I'll ever romance her but i want to be her friend.
I love to hate Addison and Tann and would have liked to have been able to annoy them and wind them up more.
Reyes: Romanced him with Sara, partly because i promised to myself I'd romance anybody voiced by Nick Boulton and because the only other human male option was Liam. Lack of implications to this relationship lets this down.
Sloane: I read the book about the rebellion, Insurgence?, beforehand and wanted to like her, she seemed like a cool character in print. In the game she turned into a total bitch and Aria T'Loak wannabe. let Reyes' friend shoot her twice now.
Kesh: I wanted to make Kesh the Meridian Ambassador or whatever that choice was at the end. The only Krogan option was Morda, i'd have picked anybody, in to and including Liam over Morda. I wanted to start a coup, overthrow Tann and Addison and put Kesh and Kandros in charge. Kandros is ok, but i'm getting a bit sick of him in Multiplayer.
SAM: I quite liked the idea of SAM, I was a little freaked out by him to start with, I wondered what he'd think if I did end up in a relationship with someone, would he be jealous? I kind felt I was in an arranged marriage with SAM and anybody else would be cheating. Again there's the lack of implication, did Ryder jn consent to this? Could SAM go rogue? Does SAM have his own agenda? I think that Knight woman had a point, considering. I probably shouldn't have come to this after some Dragon Age 2, coz my first reaction was something like "Oh crap, i'm Anders!". Doesn't help that SAM sounds a lot like Cole from DAI to me...
I think they could have been as good as the Normandy crew, but fell short.

I don't remember if I ever commented on this thread. I did respond to the poll. I'm too lazy to look through 12 pages so here's my take based on memory, today.
I love Ryder (Scott, at least; never played Sara but that's consistent with not ever really playing FemShep). As a guy who tends toward Paragon (or Paragade, at my "worst"), he suits me well. However, I can understand that people are annoyed that they don't get those Renegade options. Even I liked some of the Renegade options when playing mostly Paragon. It was a miss on the part of BW to remove Paragon/Renegade options. The emote wheel worked fine in DA but didn't translate well into ME. It meant less choice of emotion rather than more. So while, as I said, it suited my style, it really didn't work well for many Mass Effect players.
Cora being a total asari devotee and then doing a 180 post-LM was kind of weird. Jaal with his bizarro responses to your actions in his LM didn't appeal to me. Liam was an idealist who made some shit decisions based on said idealism. Drack was nice, right up there with a typical krogan, and his LM made lots of sense. Vetra was okay but too much her was about her sister. Peebee was okay but she seemed to get her way always and suffer no consequences for her actions. Monetary cost is not sufficient. We all know why they didn't turn out well but that lack of badly needed polish made them generally wonky. If it was just one off character but you call them quirky. When it's one "on" character, that's a problem.
Now, even go a bit away, Paragon/Renegade would have been incredibly useful in dealing with Nexus "leadership", particularly in a frontier situation where law is more of a suggestion than a requirement. I did like the Tempest crew, though I would have quickly put a kibosh on the whole Kallo/Gil rivalry because it's childish and counterproductive for what's meant to be a professional crew. Suvi was nice.
Romances were severely lacking for me. I won't get into it here because I've discussed it at length and have no interest in rehashing it. Only one point I want to bring up is Keri. Having a fling with her while romancing someone else seriously ups the creep factor of the Ryder Twins given how goody-two-shoes they are otherwise presented as being. Would have worked much better as a Renegade option.

Cora was my favorite because I found her lolzy. I'd make the Ryder Twins themselves a squadmate with a romance option. Then their upbeat personalities could play off of a grim Shepard. Plus, they would have been just fine after Shepard's death because we know they feel absolutely nothing when someone they love dies. I mean, they definitely didn't care when Alec died so I doubt one measly year aboard the SR-1 would have affected them. But then I'd have to choose between Scott and Kaidan and that would be rough.
