We'll see, but... I'm not holding out on that hope. But we'll see. I know there's a number of people who have already dumped a bunch of money on loot boxes. Will they be affected at all? But since it's only a temporary removal, it's not going to make a dent in the outcry. EA jsn't that stupid to bring back microtrancations after the "hate" they received? Are they? They might bring back microtransactions for cosmetics or some other form they hope will be more acceptable.

What a shit show. This reversal show weakness and alludes to the idea that they have no clue what the hell they're doing. With that said, however, it would not surprise me in the slightest if this was actually an order from Disney. They had to be getting nervous due to the media picking this up and the murmurs of investigation. EDIT: Looks like the CEOs of both EA and Disney reportedly talked on the phone about this. www.gamespot.com/articles/star-wars-battlefront-2-temporarily-drops-microtra/1100-6455042/

Still going to pass. So should you. I expect it will be 'free' in the EA Access Vault within 6 months...

So, Battlefront II's review scores on MetaCritic and OpenCritic (Reviewer and User) fall short of the scores for Mass Effect Andromeda. Nice to see BioWare leading the way in 2017... (maybe)...

But since it's only a temporary removal, it's not going to make a dent in the outcry. EA jsn't that stupid to bring back microtrancations after the "hate" they received? Are they? This feels like a move to try to stem pre-order returns and impact on early release sales. There's a lot of conjecture & wishful thinking about what EA might do fix MT/LBs, but they haven't given us any idea of what they're actually looking to do. It's worth noting that Origin pre-orders can be returned within 7 days of the game's release. So my guess is, regardless of what they'll do, we won't get any solid information on what they'll do until that time runs out.

Yeah, the whole 'temporary' bit makes me skeptical that we have seen the last of obstructive MT.
Of course the question I'm now wondering is if this change of events will lead to EA charging for, or cutting support of any future DLC? I mean they were pretty passive aggressive with the whole "We reduced the cost of unlocking heroes… but we reduced the rewards earned by the same amount too." It really wouldn't surprise me if EA just decided to cut their losses and abandon BF 2 as they focus on "New and exciting titles set in the Star Wars universe."

Tbh, I'm still confused about EA's statement in regards to MT. If they were removed I would probably buy it (it certainly looks good enough). But "removed for now" is just making me scratch my head. Honestly, I thing they’re buying time while trying to figure out how to proceed. I don’t think they even know how to respond to this.

Sorry guys I haven't read every single comment in the last page, but has it been discussed already the fact that Battlefront 2 is under investigation for possible gambling practices introduced in the game? And also, Overwatch. That's stupid. Sorry, I didn't quite get it. What's stupid? the idea of "supposed" gambling introduced, they being investigated, or what exactly? Tbh, I'm still confused about EA's statement in regards to MT. If they were removed I would probably buy it (it certainly looks good enough). But "removed for now" is just making me scratch my head. Honestly, I thing they’re buying time while trying to figure out how to proceed. I don’t think they even know how to respond to this. Yeah, temporarily is a tricky word. At least they're being honest in saying "this will be back at some point". I'm seeing this as what Bethesda did with monetization of mods in Steam, it worked horrible so they closed it, one year after we got Creation Club which is essentially the same, but on a different platform. EA can't accept that people do not like microtransactions, for them it's like if people want games to be free, that's just not gonna happen. They'll be back obviously in some form, it's yet to be seen how the investigation is going to affect them, if Belgium found them "guilty" they'll have to pay a couple of thousand dollars in fines and the game will be banned from that country. Apparently China could join the investigation relatively soon, due to their intern policies and what not.

Microtransactions obviously exist in the industry for quite some years, loot boxes too. Mass Effect 3 is the perfect example. I've seen a lot of you asking "why the investigation now?" , well obviously due to the heat of the press and the community in general. This wouldn't had happened if people would just "sigh" and accepted the system as it was. A shitstorm happened, every youtuber started making videos about it, gaming press started to look upon it. All that lead to this Belgium gaming organism to take a look and see what all the fuss was about. So for the record, bitching does indeed work, it just has to be canalized. A lot of time people bitch for the sake of bitching, but when they're right, this is the outcome I guess.

I''m hoping that when they bring back microtransactions, they do it in a reasonable way. If they're keeping servers open and "free" content flowing and don't affect gameplay, I don't mind them. I would say that maybe EA learned their lesson from this shitstorm, but it's EA. Thinking about picking up the game in light of the fixes they'be made, but the threat that they're only temporary dissuades me.

For those hoping that when paid LBs do return to BF2, that they'd cosmetic only... US Gamer: EA: Star Wars Battlefront 2 Changes Will Balance Those Who Want Gameplay Progression and Those Who Want an "Accelerated Experience"www.usgamer.net/articles/ea-star-wars-battlefront-2-changes-will-balance-those-who-want-gameplay-progression-and-those-who-want-an-accelerated-experience Today, EA announced that it will be removing microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront 2. However, this is only a temporary measure until EA can achieve what the company says is the "right balance" between those who want to progress through gameplay and those who want what they call an "accelerated experience." In a telephone conversation, an EA representative confirmed that the developers are going "back to the drawing board" in attempting to balance out Battlefront 2's microtransactions. Their ultimate goal is to find a way to balance the needs of their large playerbase, they said. In saying that they will try and strike a balance for those seeking an "accelerated experience," EA appears to be suggesting that Battlefront 2 will eventually return to offering the opportunity for players to spend money on accelerators—industry jargon for gameplay boosts that can be purchased with real money. Aside from Battlefront 2, Need for Speed Payback is a recent example of EA's attempt to introduce balanced "accelerators" through loot boxes.

I’m hopeful this experience will shape how EA approaches MT going forward.

I posted this a while back (seems like 100 pages back at this point). Its still a great game, with a recent MP update to it. I recently beat the campaign again. And I had a blast doing so. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to see how a proper battlefront game should be.

Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to see how a proper battlefront game should be. That game had proper local multiplayer support too…. The most recent Battlefront 2 can't even be bothered to allow for a single split-screen partner to accompany the host into normal online multiplayer matches. A 12 year old game: 4 player split-screen capability, fully supported co-op campaign, and online/offline functionality vs. A brand new game (with 12 years of technological advancement and improved processing power behind it mind you): only 2 player split-screen in a half-assed throwaway 'arcade mode', and only available offline.
