VIs going rogue acting like malicious AIs to such a degree that it's comical the lore even bothers to try to distinguish VI from AI when in explanation they are different but in action, a rogue VI causing havoc doesn't seem to be any less dangerous than an AI...

There are several VIs in the MET. Only one of them gained sentience and then only after being upgraded with Reaper Tech. According to the wiki, VIs go rogue due to software errors or malicious intent. Could have been either with the rogue VI on Luna. The one on Jarrahe Station seems to have been malicious, since it infected the station and a whole lot of mechs.

I'd also like to add; I always found the ME2 and 3 thing where you could only hack an AI or robotic if all shield and/or armor are down to be silly. I realize it was done for "balance" but still... how is a kinetic shield or physical armor going to stop electronic signals? lol
Small quibble, I know. I overthink. I answered my own question; it was for balance. Can't have some fights being TOO easy.

Consider their shields a visible representation of their firewalls and you've got no issue. Especially since the hack ability allows you to add your own shields aka firewall back on.

So, I looked into Homeworlds and everything is clear now: -- Protheans were so fucking stupid they encrypted the Crucible's blueprints: ...it's Mars -- Anyone who wanted to read this part of the archives needed that key -- Including the Illusive Man, whose agents didn't find it before Liara. This invalidates his pun against the Alliance: -- Hanars can have their ruins and the Council probably did not send anyone to examine them: ...but I bet they could have if they really wanted to.

So shooting them with a gun takes down their software firewalls...?

Am I correct in thinking that the explanation for why the Reapers imprisoned Legion to use him as a signal booster is kind of weak? I know that he was given more advanced hardware than your typical geth platform so that he could operate on his own when tracking Shepard, but it seems unlikely that the Reapers couldn't build something that would serve the same purposes (and *wouldn't* turn around and undermine them at the first opportunity) on their own.
I guess the idea was to create a brief moment of uncertainty as to whether Legion could be trusted or was under Reaper control, while still making it fairly easy to guess that he was telling the truth. But they probably could have just had them discover Legion locked in a room on the dreadnought somewhere to similar effect. (This doesn't really bother me that much - I don't take the pseudoscience in most sci-fi too seriously - but I just got to that mission on my current playthrough and was wondering about it.)

Infiltrator definitely had one for combat I believe. And the non tech classes can use their omni-tool if a tech ability is chosen for a bonus power.

Ok then, I was thinking about the beginning of the game where each class has an opportunity to use an omni-tool animation. Deathscepter also helped steer me towards where bonus powers have nothing to do with it.

Having to pistol whip Dr Archer. The whole scene is gross and overly sensational, and I'd rather not have writers assume that I care about someone just because they're (literally) autistic. I picked the renegade option BECAUSE I don't have morals!

I picked the renegade option BECAUSE I don't have morals! The whole ending scene for that DLC was immensely biased (IMO). Everything we are shown about the Geth, and Mass Effect technology in general, points the universe being more grounded in reality when it comes to AI and hacking yet somehow, getting an autistic person to talk to robots requires torture porn levels of mad science and violation of patient ethics. It is rather funny how BioWare depicts that what is done to Dr. Archer's brother as horrific and evil, and yet views the Synthesis choice, which is the exact same situation except on a galactic scale, as the "optimal" outcome.

Yep, BioWare seems to have pushed that as ideal choice, but after my one time trying it I'd never do it again. If this is to be our ultimate fate, we'll get there eventually. If not, then it was never meant to be.
