Just finished a 2nd playthrough. But it's not fair to compare because I'm a completionist and I could finish the entire trilogy in the time it takes me to do one playthrough of ME:A! And it's only a year since release. I had a great feeling afterwards this time because I knew there would be no DLC so no disappointment, and I knew how to complete missions to avoid planet hopping too much. I was able to appreciate the main story and its mysteries more and I really feel like it's on par with the trilogy, it's just the execution and writing that were uneven. It was definitely a more wholesome experience, but now I wonder how much better it would be if I did a playthrough focusing only on the most important missions and then doing those less important tasks after the epilogue. However, it might mean losing out on many missions at the Nexus/Hyperion, and combat might be kind of hard because you couldn't level up as much (I finished at 70 or something). But I feel like this game would be quite awesome if it was played through faster focusing on the main story. I never felt like I wanted to continue with missions in the MET after the finale, but in Andromeda it would be nice if there was something else to do apart from checking out if there is any different environmental dialogue. If you want to do a main mission focused playthorugh, it is easiest to do it as a NG+. Just start a game re-importing your Level 70 Ryder and you won't have to worry about how much you level up during the game since the enemies will only level up with you. The resources and items you collected will carry over (although your inventory capacity will drop back down to 100 (so you'll probably have to deconstruct some things so that you're not starting the game overloaded and unable to collect anything new). Since your minerals and other crafting supplies and augments carry over, it's easier to explore using different weapons and armor with NG+ as well. You do lose out on missions that require the Hyperion to complete, unless you do those ones before the final one. One thing I was surprised was how I felt about not having completed the Ryder's Family Secrets quest. There were little dialogue changes that occurred as a result that suited the type of Ryder I was role playing quite well. Certainly, there were a number of writing improvements that could have been made (Mass Effect has never been the equivalent of War & Peace in my mind and has always been just a very good game). For fun, I would have liked some more renegade-like options for Ryder,. since the lack of them does mean ME:A is not quite a versatile as the OT. Still, I certainly don't regret buying the game at all. and I've enjoyed every single one of my 7 complete playthroughs. I imagine I might have another 2 or 3 playthroughs left in me before I pack it away for an extended hiatus. If Bioware do ever change their minds and decide to produce a sequel, I'll be quite willing though to reload it and play it yet again before that sequel releases.

ME:A doesn't get as much credit as it should for the reactivity it had. In retrospect, maybe we don't care about that as much as we say we do, which would mean it isn't worth the wordcount.
I keep being brought up short by how many times the way missions tie together doesn't actually make sense. Today, for instance, I played through meeting Avitus Rix on Havarl. Standard procedure for the turian ark quest chain is for Ryder to get an email from Rix after reaching Kadara, saying that he's heard of some Ark Natanus wreckage on Elaaden. This works OK. But if Ryder's already been to Elaaden before they meet, Rix tells Ryder that he's heard about the wreckage in your first conversation.
Who'd he hear that from? The turians haven't even been talking to the local angara, let alone exiles.

I tried doing another playthrough of ME:A but it just doesn't hook me like the original trilogy did, so instead I'm playing through the original trilogy again.
ME:A isn't a terrible game but for me it was the biggest disappointment from BioWare since I became a fan of their games. Dragon Age 2 probably would have been more disappointing except I was never as invested in Dragon Age as I was in Mass Effect. Mass Effect is my second favourite game series of all time so I had a much higher expectation of a new Mass Effect game, and when it didn't live up to that even though it was still an okay game had it been a different IP it was a big disappointment for me personally.
I do hope they change their minds about putting the series on ice though. We badly need more Sci-Fi RPGs in the world.

Andrew Wilson was talking positive things about the game during the last earnings call and I think people having a misunderstanding of what is being said. Frankly I doubt EA would want to mislead or lie to investors since they will sue if they felt they are being misled as we have seen in the past. If the Kotaku article is accurate the developers were under the impression they would be going straight into Andromeda 2 which I think is a given didn't happen. I think that is where the comments about hiatus or being on ice are coming from so they can go back and fix the problems that were with Andromeda before going into full development.

To the topic at hand...I'm not far from completing a trilogy run. I've already got a start on a new MEA run, doing just the Habitat 7 stuff and going to the Nexus. Noticed some things I didn't see before which made it a little bit better. Looking forward to getting back into this.

That's a good point - some missions would be impossible during a focused run because they require a lot of other stuff done (movie night) or finding those light spots on planets (family secrets). Those two were one of the highligths of the game, but having seen them twice now, I could live without them. Maybe I will try NG+ in a game for the first time in my life... The good thing about ME:A is that if I do a couple more full playthroughs, each one taking about a year (because I play other games too and don''t have that much gaming time), it might be time for a sequel announcement by that time. @ Alanc, I had many instances like that -- having just visited a planet and then being asked to go back immediately, it's annoying and ridiculous, and sometimes with dialogue inconsistencies like you describe. It's like the developers assumed that most people would be planet hopping after a few missions on a planet, exploring the planets slowly and not at one go. But given how long the orbiting and landing and galaxy travel animations are, you get bored early on and just try to do as much on a given planet before moving on, and this quickly becomes a problem with how the missions were designed to be played. If they wanted people to play missions and explore planets in a specific order, they should not have made an open world game. For instance, on both my playthroughs I discovered the second base on Eos only after visiting other planets and got really outdate dialogue about wondering what the remnant stuff are etc. when I'd already activated a vault or two. On the other hand, it's important to have location-based dialogue for immersion, so the only solution to me is not to have such an open world.

For me, it changed how I see especially 2 and 3. I now have almost zero incentive to play them again, instead I think the plays will to 1 -> A - they fumbled too much into the console-simplification (in that time the consoles didnt have enough memory.. ) in 2 and 3 for me to enjoy them after 1st one. Especially 2nd did.

Well, I think it’s on ice in that Bioware doesn’t really have the manpower at the moment. Currently they have all cylinders running to make Anthem a reality. Then they’ll have the next DA and post release Anthem content to worry about. I don’t think EA management trusted the Montreal studio after their mismanagement of the project, leading to the studio getting folded into EA Motive, they might have been able to keep working on it if that wasn’t the case. A new ME may come, but not for awhile and I’m not sure it’ll be Andromeda 2.

A focused main mission only run of ME:A, especially if on NG+ (where you should not have to worry about collecting minerals and other crafting supplies or even potentially have to worry about opening any containers or hunting around for remains) should take the average person about 25 hours, if you don't skip through dialogue and still read the datapads you find (that is, still actually let the story run and notice the differences in the dialogue it makes). The story does adapt itself to what you're doing and the order you're doing it in.

I think I'm done with my 2nd playthrough after more than 60 hours. I enjoyed it more than the first one, and I already know I will do at least one more (one engineer for sure, and probably one sentinel) But first, I will get back to my backlog, and then replay the trilogy for the 7th time, as an engineer, my favorite class \o/

Yeah that's one of the things I love about Bioware's games you can play the games many times and still find new things. Recently discovered something new myself in DAI in the Hinterlands a quest I don't remember doing before. It was only a small thing but it was at least something new

I was finding new stuff even after x number of playthroughs I think mainly from ME1.. at least for me, the combined amount of 12 times I had depleted especially 2nd in few plays, but in 1 I found out mercenaries in one planet, guarding something on playthrough #11. Wiped 'em.

There's lots of stuff to find in ME1. It would take several playthroughs to find everything Definitely ME1. The others I can’t see missing much other than encounters in the Citadel Dlc. Some of those aren’t marked and can be missed. In ME2, there are many different death scenes you'd never see unless you allow some to die during the SM. The same holds true for ME3. Even though you can not change the mission order a whole lot in ME3, doing so (and perhaps making a sacrifice here and there) unlocks different dialogues. Individual lines of dialogue can change depending on what you've done prior to that point... even if you select the same option as in a previous playthrough. So, it depends on how you define "finding something new." I put the odds and sods you can find on the various planets in ME1 in the same sort of category as finding loot crates for the most part. The mercenaries mentioned, for example, cannot be talked with. There are two such groups of them in the game. With one of the sets, you can loot a probe they're guarding, for the other set (on Presrop - I know because I just finished that planet), you can't even do that... it's just shoot the 5 of them and leave. There are usually 2 or 3 minerals and 2 or 3 other "crates" on each planet, along with 1 main missions facility. IMO, they should have marked them all on the map. Driving around blind on those planets looking for the equivalent of a crate to loot just isn't my idea of fun. I started using the maps in the Wiki on my second playthrough.

I recently reinstalled and started another casual playthrough. I think this would make it my fifth playthrough in total right now. Tera was ported to XBox recently so I'm taking a trip down memory lane with that (loved it on PC and played with a cool guild at that time.) I've been coming through ME:A and playing an hour here and there in the first act.

There's lots of stuff to find in ME1. It would take several playthroughs to find everything Definitely ME1. The others I can’t see missing much other than encounters in the Citadel Dlc. Some of those aren’t marked and can be missed. There is more to find in ME2/3 than ME1. If you haven't already, take a look at this thread

Been working in a trilogy playthrough that I started way back last fall. Been playing less video games in general. Might do some MEA after I finish this trilogy run but playing anything is not a big priority right now.

I think mainly from ME1.. at least for me, the combined amount of 12 times I had depleted especially 2nd in few plays, but in 1 I found out mercenaries in one planet, guarding something on playthrough #11. Wiped 'em. There's lots of stuff to find in ME1. It would take several playthroughs to find everything It's stands up well to any of the ME games. I love how even the stupidest side missions in that game can make at least minor differences down the road in ME3. NBD in the greater scheme but at least you get some sense that it happened. Also, my ability to have more control over my skills is something I missed. My very recent understanding is that console controls were to blame but that it's no longer an issue. I'd like to see that control in future ME games, though not so much like MEA where you could literally max out every skill.

Definitely ME1. Ah, Presrop, Klendagon's moon. That place is beautiful. I love looking up at that rift on Klendagon and wondering about those who did it. The revelation of their target in ME2 was a fun moment for me. I've played ME1 so many times that I can drive straight to everything on every planet by reflex. I started with a clockwise or counterclockwise (depending upon terrain) patrol of each world. That reveals nearly everything on its own. After a certain number of PTs, it was all just ingrained in my mind.

I liked each of the golden worlds in MEA, but we needed more H-047Cs. Presrop actually had a number of things happening. From memory, moving counter-clockwise from the Northwest, we had wildcat miners' camp and crashsite; Father Kyle's biotic commune; aggressive, shoot-first salvagers; and a thresher maw nest. There are some really desolate worlds, but I like those too.
