In every major installment of Dragon Age, there has been at least one party member who is a spirit, or has one inside them.
Now, I say it is WE who should become that party member! Current fan consensus seems to be that DA4 will take place in Tevinter, and it would be the perfect backdrop for making a deal with a demon/spirit.
Of course, such a choice would ideally come with narrative implications and unique abilities for the player character.
What say you?

It'd be cool if there was a mechanic like NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer, where you could succumb to or try to resist the spirit inside of you, potentially corrupting it into a demon.

Does the character who makes a deal with the demon die at the end when the demon overpowers him? Do demons in DA kill their hosts? Doesn't seem like they gain anything from that at all. They want to be in the mortal realm.

I don't want to be one, but I wouldn't mind if the choice were offered, providing they could do it justice (hur-hur) in the story. Some half-assed "So-and-so is an abomination now, let's crow about it for one scene and never mention it again" would not do.

I thought the Avvar had an interesting take on this, with apprentices willingly merging with spirits who in turn act as teachers (for a time).

A pet theory of mine is that the DA4 protagonist will be the next host of Mythal and thus the key to defeating Solas.

No need, I am already possessed by a sloth demon.
But seriously, would possession still be a thing if the veil is torn down (assuming something like this is going to happen in DA4)? Technically demons/spirits would no longer need a human "vessel" if they could move freely between both sides. I even have some doubts demons were separate entities to begin with, before a certain elf started messing things up, more like different sides of the same coin. I very much hope the next game gives some answers to the nature of spirits, the previous games left some big question marks for me in that regard.

Some half-assed "So-and-so is an abomination now, let's crow about it for one scene and never mention it again" would not do. Yeah, that is what I would prefer. It should be a major choice, similar to siding with Mages/Tempalrs in DA:I, with knock-on effects that influence the critical story path. Also, (and I realise this is a pipe dream), it should come with additional unique abilities, like the Anchor does for the Inquisitor.

I think that abomination is such a loaded term and has too broad an application, from forcible possession that twists the subject into what we think of as abominations, to willing partnership where it would seem the spirit can depart again when their task is done if both parties are agreeable to this. It is not just the Avvar that do this. As far back as DAO we were told that Rivaini Wise Women allow themselves to be possessed by spirits in order to gain wisdom (suggesting what sort of spirit they merge with).
So if they gave us the choice, then it falls into the latter category and thus I hope they can come up with a new term for what you are that is not so influenced by Chantry prejudice.

I want a possibility to be possessed. It would be interesting to see how the character able to shape his/her spirit with motivations and decisions. And at the end: if the character lose humanity (too many evil decision, or too many times uses blood magic/the spirit for his/her goals), can become raging abomination – game over...

What about a KOTOR-esque plot twist where it turns out our protagonist has been (unknowing) housing a spirit within them (like Wynne) ever since the start of the game? Or that the protagonist is actually an amnesiac Spirit (like Cole) that's forgotten it's true nature after a failed summoning?
(The latter would add a fun meta element to the character creator already being like a "summoning ritual" for our player characters)

So if they gave us the choice, then it falls into the latter category and thus I hope they can come up with a new term for what you are that is not so influenced by Chantry prejudice. I've wanted that for a while too. I don't want to discard the term "abomination" entirely, since it really seems to fit beings like Connor and Uldred, and arguably even Anders, but any definition of "abomination" which lets someone describe Wynne or Sigrid that way is a bit too wide. Quick question, would Arcane warriors count as temporary abominations? I... think you mean Spirit Warriors? Arcane Warriors are mages who draw on their own power to increase their physical strength. Spirit Warriors are warriors who borrow magical power from spirits. Anyway, the term doesn't strictly work, because the term is supposed to only describe possessed mages. But a mage who learned the same techniques might qualify, depending on whether or not the spirit actually takes up residence inside the Spirit Warrior who uses the technique. (I don't think it's made clear.)

From what I recall, spirit warriors have to be careful in choosing spirits who agree to leave in exchange for a temporary glimpse of the material world.

3. "Yes, and I might take it depending on the offer."
I would be interested although I feel it would be something that would be best suited as a non-choice, rather have it be mandatory. This way, the full extent of what such a thing would entail could be explored including with its real gravity. I feel the abomination concept would be diminished if it was a choice because of what limits there usually are to choice consequences.

I'd be pretty pissed if this was forced on my character. I meant it less like a forced choice that comes in the middle of the game and more a part of the game's story. Let's say, that it's something that happens in the beginning of the game to the protagonist and so is something that is explored through the story of the game. It's a core part of it.

It amounts to the same thing, really. It's not like getting the Anchor embedded in your hand. Having a possessed character -- or "abomination," if you will -- changes the fundamental nature of the character as a person. It's just not something I'm at all interested in.
