I started my new Alexios PT. I even saved over the original, since I already have a perfect save built for NG+. This will be another, minus some weekly items, I guess. It’s great to see and hear Alexios again. I feel like he makes slightly more sense as the protagonist. He’s also hilarious. It’s partly the voice, and partly the animations. His facial animations are more dramatic than Kassandra’s, much like his VO delivery. It makes him very entertaining. I laugh aloud at his eye-rolling every time he does it. If Kassandra rolls her eyes subtly, Alexios rolls his like an annoyed teen. My wife heard him talking to Elpenor in Phokis and said, “That guy’s voice is crazy.” I said, “Yeah, he just sounds like a bad guy.” She elaborated, “He sounds like I imagine telenovelas sound.” I then realized she meant Alexios. 😆 He sounds humorous, but just believable enough for it to be his personality, rather than poor VA. I love this dude.
As mentioned, I was hooked enough to play a crazy 10 hour session. I rose from Level 1 “shitface” on Kephallonia to Level 20 misthios in Phokis. I’m loving the visual customization, which becomes available either at level 8 or after first meeting Elpenor. (I’m not sure which is the trigger, since those were simultaneous for me.) I’ve been keeping the chestpiece super basic, generally wearing a black iron version of an Athenian Breastplate. Black iron Athenian tassets are on the waist, if I recall correctly. Helmet, bracers and greaves are the Aegean Pirate look. I think they look awesome, despite their elaborate designs. I claimed a bunch of those Rare/Blue items in the Club, since I can use their skins without their crappy stats. I’ve been enjoying the strongly curved Arcane Sword design and the Elaborate Spear (?IIRC). The spear has a tassel below its head, and the blade is thick and rectangular like a short sword. Black iron and wrought iron have been the order of the day there, too. Alexios looks like a dude who’s accomplished some things, but definitely hasn’t yet reached true financial success. Pretty apt for a tier 7/level 20 misthios.
I knew they’d decreased the number of ancient tablets required for ship upgrades with 1.06. What I’d forgotten is just how very many tablets are present in Megaris. There were so many that I started wondering if the devs had patched that, too, increasing the number found. Probably not. At any rate, Adrestia is coming along, with every feature (except crew health) between levels 2 and 4. I still can’t dismiss Tekton, IIRC. He’s a fixture, it would seem. 1.07 updated the color scheme of the Adrestia Sail. I confirmed via screenshot that it used to feature a dark red sail with gold detailing. Now, it’s a white sail with red details. (We were incorrectly awarded this exact look for the last weekly Alpha bounty, but 1.07 fixed that issue.) I really like the white and red colors. Baseline Adrestia colors are now cool enough to remain in rotation all the way through the game. I somehow got better at naval combat in starting fresh. It’s always been very easy, but I don’t think I was using arrows corrrectly. I started using them strictly to attack sails, because it felt logical, and they were suddenly much more useful. I rarely make so obvious a mistake for so long, but I’ve finally corrected that. Immobilizing with arrows makes ramming even easier. I was always good at creating ramming angles. By using arrows in a smarter way, I’ve made it extremely easy to constantly out maneuver everyone. Duh. 🙄
Just talking about it makes me want to continue playing. Elpenor, the man with the best name ever, awaits my blade. I have bounties to pursue and 80% of Phokis completely unexplored. I’m curious to see what I notice for the first time after over 300 hours of gameplay. How to correctly use arrows in naval combat is apparently on the list. I’m getting some really cool mercenaries this PT. I wonder if 1.07 added some fresh variables to the mix. I’m seeing names and backgrounds that are completely new to me. Alright, enough rambling.

I have no idea how to get Kass of the second PT (I deleted the first PT) up to 70. Nor have I any inkling if Kass of the third PT would get to 70 since most of the regions have been opened though I think doing the main story will provide the xp. I have been skipping some of the ! quests like the one where the NPC sends Kass all over to look for keys to decipher the Isu writing. I don't want to do this particular quest because of the lame resolution. I ignored the NPC sitting there surrounded by wolves every time I pass the place. The wolves ignored everyone and vice versa except when I passed by. Nor am I interested in doing the fake Minotaur quest because I've already killed the cultist nor the one where a politician tells Kass to kill off the leader so he can take over nor the ones where Athenian / Spartan general repeated quests to get the sticks from polemarchs whatever.

It’s a big enough game that being choosy won’t cheat you of XP to a debilitating degree. I play our misthios as pretty damn “mercenary” (that noun is an adjective for a reason), but some of the quests are beyond amoral to the point of being immoral. I don’t murder targets for petty vendettas. I did help that dude create his war in Messara. I later murderized him on a whim in my second PT. I was chasing that “+% All Damage” engraving, and he was just standing there where I’d last spoken to him. Poor leaders; they bring out my inner murder hobo like nothing else. I wonder whether 70 will be the final cap, or if we will get further increases with each of the two DLC storylines. 6 episodes with +5 levels each could land us at 100. I’m not suggesting that’s likely; but I am curious. There’s no way to level a completionist protagonist like mine from 50 to 70 without more content. It would take lots of inane grinding to achieve that. I’m not a fan of the “Polemarchos” quest, and have yet to finish it in either PT. I think Kassandra needs three more Athenians to trigger the final stage of the quest. I can’t remain entertained for more than 3 at a time. I’m glad my Kassandra has no reason to play nice with Sparta, since I can’t imagine aligning with that Spartan jackass Lysander against the self-important but likeable Demosthenes. I hope they quickly fix the 51-70 engraving bug. It is indeed affecting most perks past level 50. My new Alexios reached 20 in just over 10 hours of play. (Progress is fast and furious when completing bounties and story missions.) I am hopeful that he won’t pass 50 before this is fixed. The only real advantage to leveling past 50, at present, is the unlocking of additional equipment cosmetics. Some new looks and gear become available at higher levels. Otherwise, the game is simply the game, regardless of level. I thought I’d be annoyed by “grinding” from 1 to God Mode yet again; but I’m actually enjoying it. I guess it’s not such a grind if you’ve mastered the game in the previous 300 hours. I find myself enjoying the small challenges that crappy gear and low levels bring. It means that my tactics vary a bit more often than they do when I have every trick in the book maxed and optimized.

Saw this hand ha a bit of a chuckle: They laughed about this in an interview I watched (Greek journalist, English language interview). The interviewer asked how many times they had to say maláka. Both actors laughed, and Melissanthi said, “It had to be around 50 times”.

So, playing through this game, it turns out I can romance Xenia?! I didn't come across this in my original playthrough but, wow, this game keeps surprising me. Now I'm kinda shipping Alexios and Xenia. I don't know why, but they seem to click pretty well with each other.

She and Alexios are both smartasses, and both leaders of men. Xenia also seems open to something significant and lasting. I picked up on that when I botched the arc with Kassandra. I liked Roxana with Alexios. These two, Roxana and Xenia, seem strong enough on their own to not be left behind or overshadowed by a “demigod” lover. It will be interesting to see if they beef up these stories in future games. I neither want nor expect BioWare-level relationships in AC. It would’ve been cool, though, to have the possibility of a romance acknowledged at the end of the adventure. (Roxana garners a mid-game nod, at least.) Our misthios’ story isn’t finished, of course. Ubi has become great about hearing and implementing quality fan feedback. Maybe the romantic threads are slightly enhanced before Odyssey support concludes?

I did the Kyra romance today and I think that's my favourite. It did make me make Kassandra lie for the first time at the end though.

Have to call cmoe out for buying AC Odyssey, sorry CMOE But super keen for you to play the game. With the level of customization we’re now being afforded, I can’t help but believe that many OW RPG fans would really enjoy Odyssey. Unless one really hates AC, Odyssey has a ton to offer. I assume you’re saying that cmoe skipped Odyssey? I had a heap of doubts prerelease. Origins’ strong finish convinced me to give it a try. It’s not perfect, but it’s very good. Kyra is so pretty, brave and available (sort of available). She feels like a trap, though, in that the story can’t progress without tragedy. Plus, I assume she’s not leaving Mykonos, so meh. Maybe she would with her enemy vanquished? When I first saw this romance previewed I thought, “She’s so pretty. It’s a trap!” Having now played the game, I feel like that’s exactly true. No relationship should begin with such a terrible lie.

A lot of people romanced Kyra. Back in my original playthrough I romanced Thaletas... only to watch him die during a victory celebration. I actually enjoyed his romance, but I'll give Kyra a try this time around.

Attacked a Cultist stronghold at Achaia. One those big forts. As usual, I sneaked onto the highest point and rained arrows down at them. There were a few elites and one of them set me laughing. She was on the second lowest level when I hit her with an arrow. Shouting, she ran for cover then popped out to run up the stairs to the third level. I hit her again when she was on the stairs. She went for cover and this was where the AI went haywire. Instead of taking cover behind three statues, she ran along the top of the wall and jumped down; you know, that swooping dive. Arms out, legs sprayed. It's quite a distance between second and third level so she took a huge amount of dmg to her hp. She ran up the stairs again and repeated the same maneuver. Of course she's dead when she landed. I was gratified when an Althenian soldier (armed similarly as a polemarch) acknowledged my aid. He was surrounded by four bandits so I carefully shoot at them whenever they were clear of him. I think that's perhaps a first. When it's Spartans vs Athenians on the road, I don't bother. If it's bandits, I will interfere.

cmoe, I’m doing okay. I’ve been chilling here in “Other Games” for months. The saddest thing about some of my PS4 exclusives is that my PC buddies can’t play or discuss them. It thins the discussion threads. I’m glad dazk lured you here with the tag! Welcome! I just left Kephallonia yesterday, so its awesomeness is still fresh in my mind (third PT). I feel like this game has a good, strong start. Are you playing as Alexios or Kassandra? Kassandra is amazing, but Alexios is my favorite. He’s hilariously expressive (and amazing in the “feelings” scenes). Beware crazy spoilers in this thread.

Hey Element Zero and obsidian question for you at the end of Kyra's missions Barnabas asks you a question with three choices, does the choice you make have repercussions for the ending because I think I want to go back and change my choice. It's the question about what are we going to do now, I chose find/kill cultists but I think I should have chosen the family related answer.

Yeah wasn't sure if it was just a you know, general question or whether the dev's were setting me up for failure. It was bugging me all last night though. I am not sure what I did after the party ending, except go to the wharf to call the Adrestia. Might reload and change it anyway.

A lot of people romanced Kyra. Back in my original playthrough I romanced Thaletas... only to watch him die during a victory celebration. I actually enjoyed his romance, but I'll give Kyra a try this time around. I just really thought the Kyra romance fitted Kassandra's personality really well and the lines the dev's gave them that I chose seemed really authentic and natural.

I just saw that it would almost definitely lead to bad things. She told me she and Thaletas were a thing, so I refused to take it further. Thankfully, I have BSN and YouTube to confirm or debunk my suspicions. In the old days, people had to save scum to see all of the options. (I save scummed the game’s endings with Kassandra. Now I can play however I want without feeling a need to see a certain outcome.)

I also saw that it probably wouldn't end well but I just played it on the premise there was a special chemistry between Kyra and Kass, that stuff happens sometimes and I really didn't like Telematas too much anyway. That played out for me in the way he behaved at the end so I wasn't unhappy with it but I was disappointed I had to lie to Kyra to keep her happy. I told her to tell Telematas, I would have liked the option to have been upfront with her and for her to accept the outcome and be happy.

dazk , the key factors for a nice tie off; If you want to see everyone at home.
Do not kill Nickolaus. Emphasize on family, etc when speaking to Alexios Promise Mirranie to save Deimos Persuade Deimos that the cult is using him during the conversation in prison. Another cultist will come speak to him and he will respond; you do not command me. (or something like that) If he says that, then the protag is successful in persuading him. Otherwise, people die.
Generally, I always chose family options if anyone ask the protag what's their target / desire. Another vote on this; the dialogues between them are natural. I like the part when she commented on Kass's stomping. But too bad, there's a third wheel. I'll not lie nor take a life over a romantic tangle, it's not right. So the only good romance they've written for the game is untenable. At least, for me. I thought Brasidas is interesting but he's like her dad than a suitor and he's older and more suitable for Mirranie. Other than these two, I don't see any suitable NPC. *sigh* I'm really not looking forward to the modern part, I've grown to detest the interruptions. Especially, when Layla just stood up after Kass died and said they have to go back into the animus. FU. That's not the most important thing, the important thing is to bury or cremate her with honour and respect. Idiot writer. After 'living' the life of the protag, Layla can just ignore her lying there? That's a cold hearted *****
