Does anyone here use the XP or drachmae boost? I feel like it's worth getting it because of how long it will take to get 70. Not me. Getting to 70 is going to be a grind fest, me thinks so I'm not even trying. I'd thought 55 would have been more realistic given present content. I do what I'm interested in, do the story and finish with the PT. I'm stopping ACOD for a while. Right now I've gone to Thronebreaker. Playing on easy to skip the card battles since I don't have a firm grasp of the card rules / mechanics; I don't play Gwent, it follows I didn't play the TW series. Not to say I didn't try, I don't find it interesting. It's a good thing the game has the easy mode; just for story so I don't get with the card battles. All I have to do is play out the game, make the decisions and see the end result.

I did and I feel it has made the game far more bearable in terms of enjoyment and progression. Its the first time I have ever done it but I feel as a not great exponent of the gameplay that it has made the game far more balanced and I haven't had to do lots of mundane quests. I feel kind of bad about it but it is what it is.

As fun as it is, the sheer size of the game is starting to wear on me. My second playthrough might have to wait awhile for completion. Oddly enough, I'm starting to get that Andromeda itch again. Might go back to it for a Sara Ryder playthrough. Never did finish that game a third time.

But for my second, I can feel the repetition here and there. Maybe I might just take a break instead.

Okay, this will feature a lot of random Odyssey thoughts. I didn’t post yesterday, so I have a bunch of small things in my mind.
First, the new patch has created some issues for me. One of its goals was to fix those strongholds that wouldn’t “complete” after all the items were completed. I only ever had this happen once before the patch. It’s happening frequently in this PT. Ultimately, it’s not a huge deal, as I’ve already done two completionist PTs. There’s no further reward for another. Still, it will annoy me, and I’ll no doubt backtrack later to clean up loose ends.
That Odysseus Pack could’ve been really good. I love the leather cuirass. The bow has a good perk for direct damage-dealing. That blue, though... ugh. I really like the color blue, but why so vibrant? It ruins a cool outfit. Would I have bought it if it looked better? Probably not; but I’m guaranteed not to do so now. The figurehead looks pretty cool. The crew and sail look stupid and meh, respectively.
The Adrestia Sail had been made red-on-white. It was beautiful. Someone restored it to its bleh, gold-on-red look from launch. It’s back to looking pretty meh in my opinion. We first saw the red-on-white when it was incorrectly awarded for an event. Maybe this prettier version will return via an event in the future? I hope so. The current one is so boring that I never use it once I have a viable alternative.
I’m 26 hours (I think?) into my PT. Alexios is Level 45, Spear 3. It’s great using him again. He’s definitely my favorite of the two, though I enjoy using each. I’ve taken a slightly different path through the game to this point. I always complete Phokis, Malis and Lokris after Megaris. I did that this time as well. I went and upgraded the spear to 2, then doubled back to complete Euboea & Skyros, as usual. I then sailed west, through waters that scared the piss out of Barnabas, to nan Poseidon’s Trident. I hit a few ship wrecks around the Aegean, completed Samos and Kos, and finally headed for Keos. It’s finished, for now, so I’ll likely head for Attika now. I did upgrade to Spear 3 along the way. I observed that this is the qualifier for the second melee wheel opens. I never paid attention prior to this. (On Keos, I finally noticed Xenia long before her role in the story arrives. I crept up behind the temple of Athena, spotting and avoiding pirates. I noticed one hulking Pirate and sighted in to mark the brute. It was Xenia, chilling behind her headquarters. I had assumed she was “inside” and unseen until her time arrived. Pretty cool. She also has some legit fortifications around that place, on the cliffs, etc... I was impressed.)
I’m concerned that I’ll pass level 50 with the game in a broken state. Without perks functioning properly, the weapons really start to lag behind within a few levels. They often patch late in the week. If this isn’t fixed very soon, I’ll have to pause in this PT. I’m really enjoying it, so I hope this won’t be the case.
The new “intelligent gear drops”, or whatever they call it, suuuucks! In an area with an Athenian presence? Expect that shitty +dmg to Athenians boost. Spartans? Same. Wildlife? Have a shitty +damage to animals perk on 90% of the drops. It’s terrible! I’m having a hard time getting any worthwhile gear. My chestpiece is Level 34 (that’s -11 Levels) because all I find is garbage. RNG is far superior to their idea of intelligent drops. They need to eliminate those three “factions” from their calculations. Everyone kills lots of troops and animals, since they’re omnipresent. That doesn’t mean that we want those trash, niche perks. Sigh.
The visual customization continues to be awesome. I’ve swapped specific pieces here and there, but I’ve generally worn Iron/Wrought Iron pieces throughout the game. My weapons are the smallest, most realistic looking pieces in the assortment. My bow is the Improved Hunter’s Bow. It’s great to be able to look like a somewhat believable warrior instead of a Final Fantasy extra. I love this small, yet huge addition to the experience.
Alright, I think that’s all I have.

Plan of romancing Liam too, seeing as I've done Scott/Peebee and Scott/Jaal.

Apparently only the elemental damage is truly broken after level 50. The rest of the perks work as intended past their level 50 upgrade and the glitch is that the statistics page doesn't register them properly. Which means upgrade away and don't go nuts in elemental gear.
As a side note - some keys must be rebinded not to do the same function or accidents happen 😇 So I am near a chest in the city area of Pephka, so hold E to steal (don't judge), right? As I start to hold E my tamed Alpha lion decides to come real close for a hug. Can you guess? Yeah, I untamed Ser Pounce-a-lot on accident and he really went on a spree. Minothaur? A minothaur got nothing on an Alpha lion going berserk in the urban area. Pephka will have a new horror legend for sure 😂 If anyone is concerned, don't worry, I tamed him back after he had his fun. Then we both went into a Conquest battle for even more fun.

dazk , yes, Poison and Fire are both diminished past 50. I’m nearly certain I found another perk that wasn’t registering properly, but my stupid, deliriously tired ass saved over my Kassandra save earlier. 😩 WTF, dude?!? I had carefully curated an amazing gear assortment. I had diligently collected all of the event items. She was level 56, or somesuch. Damn it to hell! Those saves need to be segregated to protect us from drowsy stupidity like this. Why I didn’t have a duplicate save is beyond me, also. Doubly dumb. Alexios is Level 46/Spear 4, now. I just went to Hydrea and met Roxana. With that island complete, I’ve sailed south to Melos and saved. I’m creeping up on broken-perk territory. Maybe they’ll patch it tomorrow. If not, I wonder if that legendary perk on Odysseus’ Bow will work where +poison/fire don’t? It gives +30% Elemental Dmg/-30% Build-up. I’ll take that raw damage on my headshots. I’m not opposed to dropping $2.50 or whatever in the Store. I’ve had great success at the Oikos, so I feel pretty good about it. I’ve not yet spent any orichalcum on RNG this week. That reminds me: Sauroter, the spear, appeared at the perfect time for my current PT. It’s was one of the handful of Store items I’ve been waiting to see in the Oikos. That was a pleasant surprise. I’ve had Alexios kicking about in plated copper gear for a while. There are so many badass items in this game that I’d never been able to truly appreciate until now. Wearing a full panoply of realistic, coordinated gear looks amazing. I love it. My favorite helm remains the Illyrian with the decorated brow and cheek guards. That helm is awesome. I wear it with a fancy Spartan (?) breastplate, and Spartan greaves and vambraces. Throw in few good looking weapons and the effect is nice. I’ll likely sit tight for the next two days, awaiting a patch. If they don’t produce one, I’ll push ahead and see how it goes. I don’t go all-in on elemental like some, but I definitely use it (usually a single +X%). It’s not like they’re taking away my quiver of arrows or my elemental passives, anyway. I might check out that new bow, too. (Time for more whinging.) Man, I was closing in on that horrible Polemarchos quest’s conclusion. I had all of the Ostraka riddles solved. I was ready for the DLC and NG+. Sigh. I’ll miss you, my perfect save file. EDIT: Additional musings on the Odysseus Bow. It looks very appealing to me with the perk from the Bow of Eros. That’s the “50% chance to not expend special arrows” perk. Engraving either now with the other’s legendary perk would make for a great Hunter bow. I may have just talked myself into my first Store purchase and an earlier visit to Messenia.

Unfortunately I can't find a method to restore an overwritten save file 😩 Does the PS4 even have any sort of cache folder or something for junk/old files?
My personal "insurance" for such disasters is to backup my saves manually. I configure all my games to save in the same folder, which I backup every few days in triplicate on several drives and sometimes on a USB. I used to backup every game separately from it's default save location, but it's tedious and having them all in the same place is easier. One of the perks for being on the "PC master race".
I am buying too many games because of Ubi's Black Friday sales 😇 Decided to give their Far Cry franchise a shot. I hear that's where the eagle in ACO and ACOD came from. Already tried and finished the first Watch Dogs. Kinda dissapointed with it. Lots of potential but lacking in realizing it. Pondering if I want to get the second game.

Man so sorry to hear re your save, damn that'd be annoying. I'll have to be careful and must remember to copy my saves somewhere. Been struggling for game time and keep getting side tracked at the moment in game. Need to stay focused, killed some sages need to pursue some more cultists and sages and finish that arc. ALso want to clean up the legendary beasts and mercenaries, the epic mercenary was such a dud. The other mercenary that turned up during the fight gave me more trouble. Hey Element Zero how hard is Sterotropes or whatever his name is compared to the other Cyclops you fight?

dazk, I think Steropes was easy. The arena, so to speak, is pretty large. He has a water-based area attack that is pretty easily dodged. I killed him easily on Hard, both times with a Hunter loadout.

Already tried and finished the first Watch Dogs. Kinda dissapointed with it. Lots of potential but lacking in realizing it. Pondering if I want to get the second game. Deleted or overwritten PS4 saves are sadly lost. I usually keep a double save for this very reason: if momentary foolishness or corruption occur, I have a backup. I’m not sure what I was thinking in not having one. All of my usual fallbacks failed. When I overwrote the save, it was “out of position” in that it was at the top, rather than the bottom, of my list. (I’d recently loaded it to do the weekly quest.) Normally, I’d have noticed this, but I was overcome with sleepiness and could barely keep my eyes focused. (Narcolepsy.) Odyssey save files should be “smokestacked” or isolated by PT. They’ve always been segregated this way in the past. Each PT had its own auto and manual saves. Accessing one PT meant completely exiting from another. It was nearly impossible to bungle that. Odyssey, though, just has one generic saves screen. If I load my Kass PT, it immediately takes priority and begins overwriting autosaves from Alexios. Then, when I switch to Alexios, that PT begins overwriting Kass’ autosaves. It’s a terrible system rigged to fail. If you get careless with your manual saves for even a moment, you can lose a carefully curated save file like I did. Annoyingly, I immediately tried to undo my error. I should’ve had at least a half-dozen autosaves and/or quick saves for Kass. The autos had been swiftly overwritten, though, and any quick saves simply disappeared. Ugh. I continued doing “stuff” before heading to Attika. I killed a handful of revealed cultists. I sailed about, visiting wrecks and sinking Alphas and cultist vessels. I sailed southwest around the Peloponesse and stopped in Messenia. I rode straight to the mine in Messene, sneaked in and got the Bow of Eros. A few shipwreck dives later, I was on the coast of Attika, concluding timed contracts before going to sleep. I stopped at a village blacksmith and got my engravings updated. I now have the Bow of Eros engraved with Bow of Odysseus’ perk. Should be great. I went ahead and sailed around to that random, coastal arrival point in Attika. The quest only triggers if you disembark there. 🙄 That’s where I saved. Alexios is Level 47, I think. I have about 36 hours in this PT. Seeing that comparatively low number makes me feel better about my whack ass equipment. I have a long road ahead, sure to be filled with some good gear. Henceforth, I guess I’ll periodically upgrade my primary bow, since its perks are central to my entire schtick. I’ve been toting an unimproved spear as my secondary melee solely for its perks. I only need a good bow and one reasonable melee weapon. Bow of Eros aside, I guess I’ll ride the RNG equipment train to 70, instead of 50, this PT. On a different topic, I wish the overall ship aesthetic was decoupled from the sail. There are some great looks with sorry sails. Ideally, we should’ve been given more cosmetic autonomy. It seems clear that they now realize this, so maybe the lesson will stick if/when we get another nautical AC game. I realized last night how much I like the look of the Wavecutter theme. The sail has a really weird, and probably historically inspired, design. Its colors are great, though, and the ship looks really nice. I think I might roll with this one a lot moving forward. It’s neutral enough that pretty much any figurehead works, too. Maybe I’m too picky about details, but that’s how I roll. 😉

Wow @elementzweo that save system is stupid. Being still on my first PT I wasn't aware of how it worked but whoever deemed it a good idea should be fired and hung drawn and quartered. It amazes me that games have been around so long and no one seems to have come across a save system that everyone goes that's great and adopts it. Hell its one of the most important functionalities of a game. Anyway makes me doubly weary of playing a 2nd character and just waiting for NG+ On a separate note, Oikus continues to screw me over. He has given me one one epic item and one legendary one that I have kept out of more than 20 trys at the luck dip. So have decided to just give up on that and yesterday caved in and bought The Rebel Spartan gear to use its aesthetics on my current set-up and bought the Odysseus Naval pack. I like the ship and sail but the crew are a bit out there: New gear look but without the hood: New ship look with Odysseus sail, mermaid figurehead

Yeah, I'm also careful on the manual saves. I stopped playing the second PT so that PT Kass is two levels over the old PT Kass who is level 50. Alexios is just level 13 so it's easy to pick out who's who since I have only three manual saves. I'm also waiting on NG+. If there's any particular bounty sail coming, I'll just take the oldest Kass and get it.

saandrig for some reason my Nvidia card settings for Frame Rate have have changed. You recommended locking it at 60FPS on the actual card which I did but it has changed and I can't remember how to lock it again. Would you mind telling me again as it had a big impact on quality of gameplay and stopped some tearing I was getting.

Changing settings ingame can also reset the global Nvidia setup. Go in the Nvidia Control panel, then look for "Manage 3D settings" tab and scroll in it to find the "Vertical Sync" or Vsync option. That is what you need to be turned on. There is also Adaptive option for the Vsync which you probably won't need, however sometimes it can produce better results depending on the game and your specs, so it's an option too if you ever want to experiment. Make sure the ingame Vsync is turned off too. You can do that from the ingame settings or from the Program tab in the Nvidia Control panel and the Manage 3D settings where you select the game you want to customize.

I'm testing a theory so I played out the new PT and made it to the Pythia. It was during the cutscene that I realised that they corrected an oddity. When Kass was pushed out of the temple, in previous cutscenes, I didn't see anybody but didn't take note. This time, I saw the guard. What was I testing? After the rig came back from the overhaul with the battery, the bloody thing would shrill if I play ACOD. Not all the time but it sounded often. But when I play other games, it's quiet. WTH? It then occurred to me it's the demand on the GPU. Could it be? I lowered the overall graphic setting to very high, down from ultra. Hardly a shrill. Btw, I noticed the second tier to bind more skills is open once spear level three is reached. It has nothing to do with the level of the char.

Yeah, Odyssey will GPU bottleneck and heat up even the best GPU on the market if you play above 1080p resolution 😈
It will task the best CPUs too, no matter the resolution (almost). I was a bit worried after the last patch because ingame it looked that my CPU got more load than before and regularly reaching 90% load. But then I saw I forgot to turn off a bunch of active programs that I used while waiting for the patch to download. And now I am so proud of my little 8086k chip for handling the game so well under pressure.

My first screenshot in Odyssey. I just had to take this one.
We all love the Trojan horse. And we still don't remember who built it.
We all took a picture here and you know it!
Flaming self promotion.
Poseidon can suck it, I am the God of the sea!
I am sure all involved think "Dinner!"
Some mornings are worth it.
Taking the Minothaur tour. Fun fact - the guy in the middle is a Mercenary looking for Alexios. Probably the least successful (or the smartest) Mercenary in Greece. I let him live even though the tour needed some entertainment.
You try to take a romantic moonlight beach picture with a friend (it's Athena in animal form, I swear) and there is always some jerk ruining the shot (at the far left). I swear I saw it after the picture was taken.
A close up of Ancient Greece's best buddies with the biggest body count.
Mine's bigger!
Bear riding should be a thing. Make it happen, Ubi!
Eats everything. Especially likes children...

Sheesh. I'm not amused. I did Robin and the Kingfisher. When Dagger goons attacked, I got slapped with bounties. WTH is this? Was I supposed to stand there and get killed (no civvies were killed)? While on the island kicking the goons of the Dagger (last stage of the story), some civvies waded in and I struck some of them in the melee. Bounty. I was not amused; galloping to the top to the temple and some A-hole mercenary showed up immediately at my back. Another showed up again and I kicked her to Hades. After the story was done, I went back to the main island and killed the sponsor. The game couldn't make up its mind. Before I did the last stage, I did the conquest battle and turned the main island over to the Spartans. Upon landing at the problem island, I saw Dagger goons, Athenian soldiers and one Spartan soldier. All were fighting. After the Dagger goons were killed at the dock, the Athenian all jumped on the lone Spartan.

Yeah the stupid bounty thing is annoying me, yesterday I got a quest to go kill some Spartans and I did in the middle of nowhere with no witnesses and no one else killed or injured and then got a bounty. I was taking down a fort and had been completely undetected and a Mercenary showed up and walked straight up to me in stealth and attacked me and then I got a bounty when I killed him???
