Who is the better qunari companion? Iron Bull or Sten? I love Bull the most, but it's a close call. They're both A+ quality cuties who like sweets and big swords.

Who is the better qunari companion? Iron Bull or Sten? "Better" is hard since it's sort of unfair to compare them. Sten introduced the entire concept of the Qun to players. But the time we get to Bull, we already know a lot about the Qun, and so we're ready for a character who in many ways rejects it, even though he often defends it - and therein lies the complexity in Bull's character.

Who is the better qunari companion? Iron Bull or Sten? Tallis. Gatt. He wants to be a proper Qunari, but knows it's faults and is willing to try and change it from the inside. Even if he is likely doomed to failure .

I didn't pick up on that the first few times -- that he's not entirely comfortable with the Qun, and he understands Bull's rebellion, but he'd prefer to stay where he is and try to change it from the inside. I think because he's lived outside the Qun, and it was awful (slavery), and he knows, as an elf, that his prospects outside the Qun even now are not great. It's quite depressing, really

How bad was Meredith as a boss and working as Templar in Kirkwall, that joining the Qunari seemed like the better alternative?

Gatt. He wants to be a proper Qunari, but knows it's faults and is willing to try and change it from the inside. Even if he is likely doomed to failure . Gatt's attitude made me think about Qun and its potentiality for change. Sounds like an oxymoron, I know, but would there be any way for the state based on the philosophy of Qun to become less oppressive towards individual freedom? Or perhaps it's simply a contradiction that can't be resolved - since Qun states that we are endowed with an individual function in a greater whole which we cannot/should not change, the state's central role would be to protect the status quo at all costs.

Who is the better qunari companion? Iron Bull or Sten? In my humble opinion, Sten's an evil buttface--it's not like you can reach the position of Arishok by being a good person, after all. Iron Bull, at least, has the capacity to escape.

It's hard to make a judgement on the society when we only have different accounts from individuals and no personal experience for the players. Everything is hearsay for now. I do think there is some flexibility there, otherwise Gatt would never have gotten away with the attitude he and Bull say he has. His very name is a reflection of his temper but he wasn't lobotomized for it. He was eventually able to go out into the world and tell outsiders like the Inquisitor that they listened to his frustrations and accepted him. The impression I'm left of the Qun is that it's a collectivistic society to an extreme. Where every instinct is honed towards cooperation for the sake of others. There could possibly be wiggle room if the right leaders can be convinced to make some allowances by going with the argument that dissatisfaction amongst enough individuals is a sign that their nature is being kept from its natural state and that the interpretation of the Qun needs to shift just enough to accomodate that. Pragmatism demands adaptation to some extent as their military proves that they're willing to advance their technology for a greater purpose. The hard part is figuring out just how rigid they are versus how willing they'd be to change if the payoff for their society is high enough.
