You know how this shit works? They put in arbitrary timers to sell their "time shitters". Just look at Fallout Shelter - I have no idea how this shitty mobile game got so much praise - probably by Fallout hype and excitement. Nevertheless they sold their time scams there too. And what do you know - you really needed to be dumb to get hooked on the simplistic addiction loop of unlocking stuff and craving to do it faster. The fastest way was actually to manipulate your system clock to tell the game X hours had passed and a function would unlock again. Barely worth money. Remember the War Table in DAI? Wasn't popular either - I think you could do with the system clock too. Smart devs would disable that to sell more "time shitters", though. Doesn't change the fact that it's gameplay designed for for arbitrary shit to be sold. This is hilarious. In Odyssey's case the easiest way to "unlock stuff" is to play the actual game, not buy XP that won't give you loot from anywhere. And in general you're trying to imply that the development of a mobile game (Fallout Shelter) defines how "regular" games are developed - that couldn't be more wrong.
It could be argued that the War Table "time delay" in Inquisition was to allow for "time-savers" but if it was, why didn't they have them? Another possibility is that it's to make things more "realistic" and prevent save-scumming, because you'll have 20 hours between picking your Venatori spy and learning who they are (that's not a judgement on if that use case is worthwhile, or how well it was executed, just a possible reason for inclusion).

"Time savers" my rear. You're helping create a narration where that is suddenly a service, worth to be paid - when in reality a simple tweak, cheat or mod would do the same job just fine. Time bollocks. This doesn't even make sense. We're saying it's not necessary in the game. It's not necessary means people don't buy it. If people don't buy it, Ubisoft probably won't expand on the MTX usage in the next game. And time has borne that out: Assassin's | Creed | has had | microtransactions | for a | long time | and A. no one notices outside of the momentary news cycle before release, and B. the games have only gotten bigger and more packed with unique stuff that a time-saver is completely skipping. Seriously. The FUD is so boring.

What's wrong with save scumming? Nothing is "wrong" with it, but game design frequently tries to mitigate it. You know a lot of console games don't let you save anywhere, right? You know XCOM had an RNG specifically designed to mitigate save-scumming, right? It's a thing devs do that has nothing to do with trying to make more money.

An aside totally unrelated to the topic - why is "pacing" always used to mean "takes too long." That's not what the word means. In the abstract I don't disagree, but look at what you're saying. "This game has MTX so there must be something wrong with it even if everyone who's played it says there isn't anything wrong, rabble rabble."

Given that if I were to byu it it would be on PC. Having a god mode t oget me through the moer difficult segments would make it easier.

.... Because the "time savers" are there to save the day. And eventually there will be something wrong for the wrong reason. A dev that is confident the game is enjoyable as is won't need to put in such nonsense. The mere offer makes me go: "Wait, what's wrong with the game so they have to sell cheats?"

"The game" is of little concern to me really. You can play your precious AC all right, I'm more concerned with the general bullshitting around mtx. This is still the gaming news thread and not a particular AC thread. You won't need to fear me treading in such a thread and can suckle at Ubiteats all day long there. Or any other thread of games I generally don't play.

It's only reasonable, since RTX is not a hardware agnostic API and does lock AMD out of its features, as far as I am aware, but RDNA2 does support Microsoft DXR and all of the Direct X Ultimate features. I mean, they'd have to. They're the proprietary hardware of Microsoft's own console.

Daniel Ahmad @zhugeexXbox has added a number of unique perks to Game Pass as part of its user acquisition strategy. From 3 months free discord nitro, to 6 months free spotify to 2 months free Funimation for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Looks like a Disney+ subscription perk will be next. Xbox Game Pass @xboxgamepassAll we're gonna say is that we're not posting The Mandalorian and The Child for no reason

Daniel Ahmad @zhugeexXbox has added a number of unique perks to Game Pass as part of its user acquisition strategy. From 3 months free discord nitro, to 6 months free spotify to 2 months free Funimation for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. I grabbed it a couple of times when they ran promo specials, but canceled immediately (as I imagine most people do.) I did get pretty good value out of the three-month promo, but only the first month. After that, I'd played all the games I was interested in, and it sat there being unused for the remaining time. I'm an outlier, and not the target of their marketing, but looking at that, I can't help but think they probably shelled out a lot more potential value getting those perks added than they'll actually see back in the form of profit (especially when they still sell the first 3-month block for $1, assuming Gold subscription.) I can't see any of the numbers, of course, but I have a hard time imagining any combination of those appealing enough to really push subscriptions. Maybe Spotify more than the others, since that would have a more broad appeal.
