Fewer romances. I never romance anyone anyway so...
The closest I ever got was a male warden who grew relatively fond of his cum dumpster Morrigan.

Taking inquisition as a base, I would happily ditch some fetch quests. Namely the bottle and mosaic collections. I didn't mind the Astrariums and shards quite so much as there was something a little more tangible reward wise but some of these things were unnecessary 'padding' for me. The DLC made the game more than long enough so a smaller world would be fine too, one or two of Inquisitions areas feel a little superfluous, all things considered.
I'm really not sure about romances. Don't get me wrong, some of them have been enjoyable, I would lean towards less quantity and more quality. Quite how you go about that in a meaningful way I don't know.
Cut scenes can add a level of 'finish' to a game but there is a balance to be struck there. As much as I think 'oh yeah ditch them,' when they are done well they can add significant atmosphere to proceedings.
Voice actors for your character depends on playable races for me. I could live with less but more variety is always nice and can add a lot of replayability.
I wouldn't shorten the main story - things start to unravel this way. If anything do a better job of tying in side quests to a main campaign. Inquisitions 'Power' system did this well enough for me but I know a not everyone was satisfied in that regard.
Less companions is fine so long as you like them. At least with a bigger pool to choose from you can afford to ditch one or two that irk you.
Not on the list but important to me - atmosphere. The difference between a place falling flat and really coming alive. Music is part of it, Inquisitions' worlds looked quite nice but the BGM faded in and out somewhat randomly, which was a shame as at times it really added something. Party banter can be hit or miss here too.

I feel like Dragon Age 2 struck the perfect balance of character content to roster in general. It's probably the only BioWare game in recent memory that had companion quests that spanned multiple stages over the course of the game to the degree it did, like Fenris' quest that had us constantly helping him to evade his former master.

It's probably the only BioWare game in recent memory that had companion quests that spanned multiple stages over the course of the game to the degree it did, like Fenris' quest that had us constantly helping him to evade his former master. But this resulted in less freeform content of the type that we got in DAO and DAI. David Gaider even addressed this at a con in 2012: web.archive.org/web/20160812022957/https://forum.bioware.com/topic/325025-video-transcript-of-the-2012-pax-east-da-panel/I prefer the DAO/I system. In addition, a follower like Fenris has almost all of his interaction based around the fact that he is a runaway slave. That doesn't help me feel like I know him as a person; he's more than just a slave and I wish the game showed that more clearly. (Fenris is my LI, so I'm not hating on the character and his storyline.) In comparison, I feel like I know Dorian or Leliana (DAO interaction) more as people because their dialogues are about various different things.

Thinking about DA2, the expanse of time allows you to develop a character a lot differently. I'm not sure they made as much of it as they could but the implementation of quests over the years was something I enjoyed and felt 'natural' to me. I found myself not thinking as much about approval and more just doing what felt right. Aveline wasn't my favourite character but having the years pass and her change both professionally and personally with time is a good example.
In an ideal world a mix of side quest material with your companions, that draw you further into the world and the Inquisition style content would be good. If that limits the number of companions available so be it but perhaps having a Divinity OS style 'henchman' list might give people increased gameplay options and allow anyone who dislikes the main companion pool to do something different.

I'm all for a smaller world.
The vastness of DAI was so overwhelming that often taking time to explore or indulge in it removed me from the story, and made me question what exactly I was doing in the first place. Extravagent pieces of world building scenery or interesting locations scattered through a large map can be great, but not every map needs to be a colossal landscape filled with things of no particular importance whilst only being dotted with minor settlements that are actually meaningful. I'm personally not looking to Dragon Age for any MMO-like experiences.
I think DA:O did the world somewhat well, there was a diverse set of locations without any feeling overbearingly huge or anything like that. I'd like something similar emulated in DA4. Though honestly I'll probably be satisfied as long as the opening area isn't the Hinterlands 2.0.

So, I choose fewer voices and smaller world. As nice as the options of voices is it does feel a bit extravagant and in most cases I ended up using the default voice anyway. As for a smaller world, as long as there's variety it could even be a bonus. I also wouldn't mind cutting down race choices from four to three (maybe even two!) if it made it possible for different origins again. As for companions... it's my favorite part, but I could definitely accept having something like two mages, two rogues, and three warriors and then two "advisors". Romances are honestly one of my favorite parts, so I wouldn't want to lose out on that, but I do feel four options just for straight females was a bit too generous - if 3/3/3 is possible that would be great.

I chose smaller world, fewer voice actors for the player character and fewer companions/advisors. And a thing that wasn't in the poll. Smaller world is a complete no-brainer because that wouldn't even be a tradeoff, it would be a win-win. BioWare obviously struggled to fill DAI's large game world with interesting content, so making the world smaller overall both saves resources and makes the game better. (In a similar logic, it makes no sense to pick fetch quests - these cost resources and make the game worse, especially if they are of the soulless kind that DAI came with. Unless you meant "fewer meaningful side quests and more fetch quests", but meaningful side quests are their own option, so...) I would be totally fine with fewer companions - 6 would be a-okay. Also makes it less tedious to "make the rounds" after advancing the main story to check everyone for new dialogue. And the thing not in the poll: a smaller home base for the protagonist. Skyhold was amazing as a sightseeing tour, but way too big as an effective home base. I got tired of jogging around in it to check 9 companions and 3 advisors for more dialogue. I would be fine with something just about the size of its main building. In return I want a longer main story and more meaningful side quests. I can take or leave the romances.
Agree with all of this except I do enjoy the romances. I prefer when they are not "player-sexual," but I suppose I would put up with that for a better DA4.

Fewer voice actor choices for PC - it's it's the only thing I'm ready to accept. I don't want smaller world but I want more longer story with intrigues and unexpected plot twists, that would cover every corner of this big world, forcing the player to explore, to solve puzzles, look for new allies and enemies and move forward in the story. The big world is not so bad as long as story involves every part of this world. I love DA-I very much, but I must admit that the main story was very short (too short!) And Player-sexual romances - please, please NO!

I vote samller world - take the time to work story and companions out. fewer VA choices - better for bringing back my character. player-sexual romance - I don't know what that should bring but i don't mind. fewer side quest - I would love to develop skyhold more. my room the hall it would look beautyful when i could decied more. other things - the grafik i don't need a good looking grafik. I play baldur's gate anytime because of the story grafik doesn't matter. 6 chosen now i get a better game ;D more time for story romance and chracters. Be creative.

Well, assuming that there even is a single player campaign, which is by no means certain, and assuming that the game even has any companions having a smaller world is a total no brainer.
These big Bioware semi-open worlds, consisting of huge unlinked areas might look good, but I'm certainly not alone in struggling with burn out and boredom after hours and hours of shlepping over miles of terrain, constantly battling my way through respawning creatures in order to fetch a pristine boar spleen to an NPC in a hut on the other side of the map, and then repeating the same thing fifty thousand times until it becomes a meaningless blur.
Give me a tight, relatively linear experience; but a well-crafted linear experience with tonnes of attention to detail within the environment. Make side quests tie in to the main plot in an organic manner - for example, if the main plot is to destroy the Wogarbullie Poohahs, have most of the side quests based around gathering intelligence on the nature of Wogarbullie Poobahs, and discovering weapons to combat them - along with a few more fun, humourous or leftfield quests thrown in... and don't forget those companion quests!
*Sigh* I know I'm wasting my time though. I doubt anything will change. The bioware we have now is not the same Bioware who made KOTOR, Mass Effect and DA:O. Those guys have mostly moved on. Instead we have an EA subsidiary, and one whose main goal is too look at what's trendy in other game franchises, and copy it with a view to making as much cash as humanly possible - hence the whole "games as live service" thing that was revealed earlier.
I fully expect DA:4 to be a multiplayer-only looter shooter, where players are put into some sort of matchmaking lobby, before being flown to a location on a back of a gryphon, and engage in horde mode combat for points which can be spent on loot - with an option to shortcut the whole process via a cash shop offering powerful pay to win items, and services such as instant level boosts, loot boxes etc.
Not that I'm cynical or anything.....

I would be willing to have fewer side quests, a smaller world, and fewer advisors. But romances, character creation, and romance sexuality is non-negotiable. Character sexuality makes it feel more real. Just like irl, the girl you like might not swing your way. Same for the guy you fancy. They just need to spread sexualities more across the board between characters so there are more choices for romances for every gender and sexuality of the player. I would really love it if, also, they did what they did in Andromeda where romances don't get offended if you turn them down for sex.

I don't think it follows that because BioWare has made rpgs in the past, that that's all they should do going forward. I think it's a bad decision to prioritise a new IP over an existing one with recent success that people want to see more of, but there's nothing at all wrong with trying new genres. I like lots of different kinds of games, and the more variety there is available, the better for me. I disagree. They aren't a large enough company to do both. When they worked on Anthem, it meant that Dragon Age was put on the back burner for a long time.
I think it is better to focus on rpgs rather than spreading themselves too thin.
That isn‘t real. When they hire more people they don‘t have to do That. They make it because they have made fals decisions. Dragon age 4 would have been finished When MEA and anthem haven‘t had Problems.

It would be great if Dragon Age had its own large, permanent team that didn't get pulled onto other projects. All members of a team aren't needed all the time. There is pre- and post-production phase where many of those people would have nothing to do because they're waiting for the writers to think and write, or concepts artists to decide how things look, or for the whole creative team to determine combat mechanics, and so on.
It's true that writers and others went from DA over to MEA and Anthem, but you didn't specify writers.

I was thinking of Respawn with JFO. From what I have read it seems that they created a new team to work on it rather than gutting their existing teams like Bioware did with Dragon Age when they worked on Anthem.
Dragon Age 4 wouldn't have taken 8 or 9 years (or however long it will take) between games if most of its team hadn't been moved to Anthem.

Sometimes, a nice simple quest with no cinematic interruptions is just a good change of pace. Between the main story, companion quests, and DLC being cinematic heavy, it’s wonderful to gave a lighter bit of content that just lets me enjoy the sights and banter. Games need less cinematics in general, 50% of the cinematics in games are just totally unnecessary and plain fucking annoying. (And ironically, super expensive as well) I'm old enough to have played games with clever and atmospheric SIDE quests that spanned over several chapters or even to the end of the game, slowly building up. No cinematics were needed. I don't agree i need cinematics. At lesst for the romance and story turns. Corypheus on the hill is importend.

Has there been any indicator that budget is a problem? EA is pretty generous. There is no indication that EA is chintzing.
However, DAI is a big world filled with empty fetch quests.
"My" idea is to sacrifice somethings to provide zots for a richer story filled with meaningful side quests instead of shards. There are only so many flowers, livestock, shards, wine bottles, that mosaic pieces that one can gather before boredom starts setting in.
My last playthrough skipped whole areas to concentrate on the story and avoid the grindy fluff.
No the problem is time. The creator haven't enough time. DA2 2 year's i suppose (to little) and DAI, when they haven't change into Skyrim open world, have had enough time.

I just replayed Pillars of Eternity. It does not have romances. I missed nothing. Meanwhile, I had what I valued most in spades: good worldbuilding and world and story consistency. And a small set of companions so well made that I had a hard time shifting any of them out of the party, even if disliked them and disagreed with them all the time, because they were so damned interesting. Conversations with them were all text, no cutscenes. Now I like good cutscenes, but this example showed me they are just a luxury if the writing is good enough. So....if I had to make sacrifices in order to get excellent writing and good world-building, romances would be the first thing to go, then the VA choice for the player character, then the cutscenes. Sorry, but for me the story of Pillars of Eternity is boring and so "I am walking through an area and i don't know what i do here." I played it two times and both times i musst stop playing because nothing touched or excited me. Please bioware no.

Straight people sure love to brag about how they don't need romances. Straight man, usually. We straight women, at least me and the ones I know, are all for the romance. A Rpg with no romance, is just the usual game with the usual excuse of "she have a mission, she can't waste time in frivolous love!" that devs say to not put male RO in their heroine path, giving themselves pats on the back for making the "woman who need no man" clichè. I agree and the DA franchise have as target group women. So men when you don't like it, play an other game. Ther are enought out there.

Fewer Voice Actors, Fewer Companions, fewer Romances and something OP didn't suggest: fewer protagonist choices. Remember kids: Get Woke - Go broke. If Bioware wouldn't stoop to pandering, they'd save a lot in production costs. What game is hailed as the best RPG ever made? Witcher 3 - where you're stuck being a heterosexual male, whose only customization options available was hair & beard. But the character was complex and had an engaging story. The same could be said about DA2 - no matter its numerous flaws. Or Mass Effect. Both had limited choices and a typecast protagonist. Then people should play witcher and don't care for DA. Because that isn't DA at all. And to Change DA you will lose a lot of Customers who don't play such games. Then i would spend my money on other things but not in videogames. And i thing they want my money.

You forgot somthing. their no 3/3/3. When you are faire their are 3/3/3/3/3. than you have 15 romance options. I would go for 2/2/2/2/2 10 option. in DAI we have 8 option 1/3/2/1/1. four option, yes with the be one. But what are 3/3/3 for you. i thought of 3 straight women/ 3 straight men/ 3 be. than you can have four as well. Even more i suppose.

Than Bioware need a lot of time.
