"cultural marxism" is an anti-semitic far (far, far) right conspiracy theory- not really any more blatant way of telling on yourself than using a phrase like this unironically, anyone who uses it can be disregarded completely (and/or laughed at) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_MarxismIn the past 10 years we have seen movies, series and games inserting commonly known ideological terms and phrases into their dialogue, but there is always this one guy who will turn around and say "You're imagining things". This is some insane gaslighting. As for that "source" you cited, this is only proof that we should be mindful in our use of wikipedia, considering that any deranged activist can edit it out and fill the page with buzzwords and pretentious fanfiction. I also couldn't care less about any purist notions of what Marxism really, really, really is. What matters is which ideas, people and movements are affiliated with it. A. thats not what cultural marxism is B. that's not how Wikipedia works- check the sources, check the edit history- do you have any evidence a "deranged activist can edit it out and fill the page with buzzwords and pretentious fan fiction"? No? You just don't like what it says? Weak. C. got any mainstream sources that contradict what I said? Only your feelings? Here's another "one guy" doing "insane gaslighting"- the Oxford English Dictionary. Oops, eh? Lol. Its an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory. That's not a controversial factual claim, its literally just what the phrase is. You know what other deranged activists say cultural marxism is a fictitious and anti-semitic fascist conspiracy theory? The people who've actually studied it. Here's some of the scholarly sources concluding that cultural marxism does not exist: Jamin 2010, Cultural Marxism: A SurveyBraune 2019, Who’s Afraid of the Frankfurt School? “Cultural Marxism” as an Antisemitic Conspiracy TheoryBusbridge et al 2020, "Cultural Marxism: Far-Right Conspiracy Theory in Australia's Culture Wars"
And "purist notions of what Marxism really is" has nothing to do with cultural marxism. Cultural marxism has nothing to do with Marxism, among other reasons because cultural marxism doesn't exist. If you mean Marxism, just say "Marxism"... and immediately look infinitely less foolish and ignorant. But you do you my man!

This thread is supposed to be about criticism of Dragon Age The Veilguard, fellas.
If you want to debate cultural Marxism, I recommend taking it elsewhere.

if people want to critique DAV on the basis of it being cultural marxism (lol), how is what cultural marxism is not directly relevant? If it involves bigotry or personal attacks on devs, that's isn't going to stand. Time for a clean-up in here I think. [Personal attack on developer removed]
Putting it succinctly: Having space for both positive and critical thought is important, this thread is part of that. Echo-chambers can be unhelpful (either way), there should be a place for critical as well as positive discussion ProBoards has rules and ultimately BSN can be canned for too much bigotry, libel, nudity etc. If it comes down to canning this thread entirely to protect the forum, we can, but don't want to do that. Please don't fuck it up. Thank you.

If you want to debate cultural Marxism, I recommend taking it to a PM. if people want to critique DAV on the basis of it being cultural marxism (lol), how is what cultural marxism is not directly relevant? It might have been relevant until it became a debate about what cultural Marxism is that has nothing to do with Veilguard. Tailer the discussion more closely to the game.

Question regarding the weather: Why is it always raining in Minrathous? Reading the description of the Tevinter "appearance" clothing in the wardrobe, states that the articles of armor/clothing are "thick for extra warmth". That too confuses me. I was under the impression that the South was below the planet's equator, and Tevinter was closer to it. Why would they act like it was a cold environment? What did I miss? It's either a conscious choice to create a certain mood like the constant snow storm in New York during Max Payne 1, or because they don't have a clue/forgot about/don't give a damn about their own lore. Wonder which one is more likely. Hmm... *scratches head*

That is true, and I agree. And as for DAV, it did wrap up the biggest mysteries in a fairly competent way. Some may not have needed resolution, but at least this wasn't an ME3 type of ending. Of course this means they can start anew with an almost blant slate since there are now no more mysteries left except who those guys in the not-so-secret ending are. Not that I think we're going to see any more DA stories in quite some time.
Did they though? A number of big lore reveal is just Solas throwing you a line or Titans speaking through Harding. A weak character...
You got the murals...
And as far as i can tell we still haven't taken a walk in the bloody golden city. Where the mind (?) of the corrupted Titans is.
Do we really need to go there to find our questions answered? Sure, it might be cool, but it might also be disappointing. In fact, I think it is very hard to do that place justice from an artist's point of view. Maybe it's better that our knowledge remains abstract.

I always personally envisioned having to travel to the Black City, the source of the Blight, as being necessary to ending its corruption once and for all. I suppose that will never happen now. Actually, that raises an interesting question: So if I understand the new lore correctly, Solas severed the Titans from their dreams and those dreams became the Blight. He then banished those dreams to the Black City, but the Evanuris began to weaponize the Blight. My question is this: why the fuck did it then appear golden during the time of Tyrdda Bright-Axe and later the ancient magisters?
I always assumed the golden glow was a trap to lure in interlopers, but who set said trap?

I doubt there will be a Dragon Age 5, let alone a Dragon Age 6. Also, given that the Blight is apparently defeated once and for all - there are no more Evanuris or Archdemons - what would be the point of going to the Black City now - to unleash greater catastrophe?

It’ll all turn out to be an inception style dream and the inquisitor will emerge Bobby Ewing style from a sweat stained nightmare in next game.

Actually, that raises an interesting question: Was it established in this game what the 'Black City' actually is? Some have speculated it was a dead titan, others a construct in the fade like the Crossroads or the Lighthouse. That is what I always imagined myself - a reproduction of Arlathan in the Fade to demonstrate the Evanuris' power and as proof of their 'godhood'.

Veilguard firmly establishes that the Black City was the jar that Solas poured the Blight into and then stuck in the attic (ie. the Fade).
Why it had to be a city-shaped jar, your guess is as good as mine. Seems like a pretty big design flaw.

Visiting the Black City and discovering its true nature (from the inside of it rather than from any other location), as well as the true nature of the Maker has always being my number one wish for DA since DAO, shame they didn't go that direction.

Aside from the good bits of the murals (which overall worked for me) I did feel a bit irritated by the "let's have a class discussion" after each one. I feel like getting the companions thoughts could have been done in a smoother way? Am I being way too pedantic?

Damn, you really don't appreciate good things until you lose them. Why can't I be like this playing as Rook?? And a jerk Hero of Fereldan can be SO MUCH WORSE! My blood mage Warden and anti-human Dalish were real class acts! Of all the Bioware games I've played, the one thing that I believe was evil/cruel/whatever word you want to use, is Hawke letting Meredith kill Bethany.
